There is NOTHING WRONG with inviting holocaust deniers for a debate at a University, just as Meir Kahane was invited to speak in Universities in America when he was alive. Free speech is meant to protect controversial speech. The holocaust mustn't become a sacred cow that everyone is afraid to investigate or question. That is contrary to democracy, and contrary to the inquisitive nature of Judaism. The best way to answer holocaust deniers is debate them, not give them credibility by silencing them.

Although David Irving is on the record as saying things which have caused offence he is NOT a holocaust denier. Irving openly concedes that the Nazis murdered million of Jews and other in WW2. What Irving does challenge is the precise nature of the Auschwitz concentration camp. If Irving is wrong on Auschwitz then lets just use the historical record to demonstrate that hes wrong.

It should be remembered that Griffin and Irving will be part of a debate so their views will be open to scrutiny and refutal. This is perhaps a provocative action by the Oxford Union but Mr Irving's publications are available to download from the Net and can be found in some second hand bookshops.
