Two states for one people     Uri Orbach
1. The 'Supremacy' Of Islam & All That It Means
I have always found the following very telling and reprehensible- assorted antisemites/antizionists get their shorts in a knot because Jews supposedly claim the moniker the 'chosen people'. If it were not so tragic it would be laughable. Surely by being born a Jew one should feel 'special'. However, 'chosen' is another matter. Chosen for what - hatred, pogroms and every other dastardly deed to befall a people? However, rather than realize what Jewish 'choseness' has really entailed, antisemites won't veer from its tragic irony. This means that the Pals can terrorize, murder, maim and commit ALL manner of grievous harm due to their maximalist religious mandate of SUPREMACY, yet be REWARDED by their supporters. It is THEIR obsession with 'SPECIALNESS' which precludes ANY Jews from living in their lands, PLUS the blotting out of the notion that the 'chosen Jews' be allowed to have their own state. IF Jew haters were to stop and think about all this hypocrisy they still would not be able to see the ironic tragedy above. Why? Because antisemitism is a lethal, metastisizing disease.

2. wrong!
there is already an arab state of "palestine", and it was created in 1923, for the arabs alone, with 78% of the land. why do they need a SECOND arab state of palestine, fatahland, let alone a third, hamastan, where none has ever existed before? this is far more basic and goes back way before we talk about recognition of israel's right to exist - because israel will continue to exist with or without arab "recognition", but not if this ongoing "salami politics" takes away what's left of the land of israel. jordan IS arab palestine!
tom ,   toronto, canada   (12.01.07)
3. Why not having one Binational state?
Would not that solve all our problems? Share power, resources, new constitution, modify current racist immigration laws that favors only Jews, gurantee religious freedom to everybody, no one threatean any one's else religious sites, an the list goes on and on...
Palestinian   (12.01.07)
4. Adina, it is the Arabic-speaking people of Palestine
who existed in this land and who were invaded by the zionists, and not vice versa... Just get your talk straight next time....
(12.01.07)
5. Nop!
This is the Israeli propaganda! This is the first time that a democratic state, like Israel, attempts to have a religious name such as the State of the Jewish people. Even the Israeli society does not have the definition of who is the Jewish, how come the Palestinian in are supposed to recognize it like that?? Can the Pas say that we need a Muslim Palestinian State? of course, NOP. Israel, the state in the borders of 1967 only, MUST realize and deal with all the its inhabitants: Jews, Muslims, Dreoze, Sharkas, and non religious as well. The new Palestinin State, West Bank, Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, will deal with all its people. Of course, all the illegal settlements should be removed because the were built illegally after 1967. Otherwise, there is no peace in the region and Israel will never feel safe and secure.
Ali ,   Ramallah, Palestine.   (12.01.07)
6. Wrong assessment
Arabs want a Muslim state and an half Muslim state as a starter but eventually these Muslim supremacists want no Jews in the Middle East and no Christians as well.
Frank ,   Canada   (12.01.07)
7. Its all a bunch of BS.....
Of course Israel is a Jewish state. Discussions on this subject give credence to extremist views. Even those questioning this publically know they are full of shit. Keep negotiating. Neither our extremists nor theirs will win. There will be two states and one of them is and will always be Jewish.
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (12.01.07)
8. Excellent !
Excellent article. Should be sent to all dreamers that think all the Arabs want is their own state (on a land that was give to the Jewish people by G-d) and nothing else.
Jakob ,   Germany   (12.01.07)
9. Two Trojan horses to halve Israel
Here is their plan: 20% Palestinian Israeli Citizens and 30% Returning Palestinian Refugees. So that Israel could not be called a Jewish state. Just Imagine an Israel with 50% of the Knesset members being Palestinians....along a Palestinian State of 100% Palestinians.
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (12.01.07)
10. why should israel be a jew-only state?
Why should Israel be a Jewish state devoid of all non-Jews? The whole idea of a state for one ethnic group is beyond me. I assumed that this kind of thought belonged to the past. Could you imagine the idea of the US becoming a Christian-only land? If so, be honest and tell me what the Knesset's response would be to that?

11. Don't Preach Racial Purity To Me
To Pete: Are you on medicine, if not, you should be? Japan is a Japanese state. Austrailia is a state for the Australians (European whites). No Japanese person would ever consider giving away any inch of Japan. It is their sovereign country. Likewise, the Muslim countries (from Iran to Algeria), consider themselves Muslim, NOT Hindu, Jewish or Christian, or Buddist. Soooo, little Jewish Israel, founded by G-d, enforced by the Balfour Declaration, then the League of Nations, then onto the UN in 1947, doesn't deserve to be "Jewish"? Give me a break Hans. The real British Mandate Palestine is Jordan. That should be the only Muslim state between the Med. and the Jordan River. Perhaps if another 1m people (Jews) move to Israel, this will be settled by default. In the meantime, have your frankfurter, with kraut and mustard., and enjoy the beer gardens. Me thinks the last people who should preach to the Jews are Germanic types.

12. To Anonymous # 4
# 4 - It is you who need to get your facts straight. Palestine ALWAYS referred to Jewish Palestine until Husseni & his clan adopted it for the PA/Jordanian Arabs as a way to bludgeon the Jews. Never in history has a people been able to reinvent themselves like the PA Arabs. It is an astonishing feat of mendacity and propaganda. They are aided and abetted world over by unrepentant antisemites. They STOLE Jewish history to create a separate and fictitious people. Sure these Arabs do exist, but not in any different 'peoplehood' than their Jordanian, Eqyptian, Syrian brothers. In fact, Arafat himself was NOT a 'Palestinian', but an Egyptian. Hmm. You can twist the truth to kingdom come & it won't change history. In the same manner that the Arabs deny that the Jewish Temples existed at the Temple Mount they create all sorts of fantasies out of whole cloth. Muhammed himself stated that the Temples existed exactly the way that the Jews claim, yet....... It would behoove those of your mindset to read 'From Time Immemorial' by Joan Peters - just for starters. She wrote this book with the INTENTION to tell it from the Arab perspective. After much painstaking research she came to the bold, unvarnished truth. You should try it some time!

Rights of Non-Muslims in an Islamic StateBy Samuel Shahid http://www.answering-islam.org/NonMuslims/rights.htm "An Islamic state is ideological. People who reside in it are divided into Muslims, who believe in its ideology and non-Muslims who do not believe." ....... "This study shows us that non-Muslims are not regarded as citizens by any Islamic state, even if they are original natives of the land. To say otherwise is to conceal the truth. Justice and equality require that any Christian Pakistani, Melanesian, Turk, or Arab be treated as any other citizen of his own country. He deserves to enjoy the same privileges of citizenship regardless of religious affiliation. To claim that Islam is the true religion and to accuse other religions of infidelity is a social, religious and legal offense against the People of the Book."

15. It's Time for Israel to Become ProActive
To Nora: Israel will have to review this entire matter of demographics, assuming there is some sort of settlement after Annapolis-summit. Israel already has it's hands full, not really knowing the future. Annapolis was just Olso 1 starting over again. Or better, Madrid. Israel, in any settlement MUST INSURE a Jewish majority, perhaps 90%, in a State of the Jews/Jewish state. The Palis should have revealed it doesn't matter. Better "Jewish" than Arab. Let's not forget that under the skin, we are all Jewish, from secular to ultra-Orthodox. Kassams, Katys, Grads, and Shihabs do not discriminate. This Israeli division is absurd. i have recommended 1m Jews from the Diaspora move to Israel, either permanently or temporarily. Let's shake up the Palis., Erekat and Abbas especially. 1m Russian Jews helped Israel, but it's taking time to integrate. That's to be expected. Israel with 10m Jews, will be a much stronger Israel, Orthodox or no. I believe Jordan should be viewed by Israel as the real Palestine..(if was part of Palestine, and still really is). Israel is reacting..it must become pro-active. Annapolis was okay, nothing came out of it, except to show the face of the Arab world, behind their lies and deceipt. Olmert got a reprieve..lets move on now., together with right thinking Christians and right thinking Jews. Any Israeli group that supports Peace Now should be marginalized and boycotted. That is what they understand best.

16. To Palestinian: Get Real, Get a Life
To Palestinian: the answer is simple, would you live with Al Qaeda types? What in heavens name do you think of we Jews? Are we complete morons? Just look at your own kind, Sunni vs Shia vs Kurds, in Iraq. The Arab world is divided into Shia and Sunni, each hating and detesting and desiring to kill one another. During the Korean War, would the US have taken in 100m Chinese? Would we (US) have allowed 50m Germans to move to the US during WW2? Where is your brain? There were 2 states for your info..one Jewish, the other Muslim, created in 48. The rest is history. Why should we Jews trust people who want us dead? This is not a frivilous post. Given your druthers, we (Jews) would walk, again, like sheep into the slaughter house, be gassed, burned alive, have our children murdered in their sleep, or awake or used as experiments. Sorry pal....get a life. Move to Egypt or Jordan, the real Palestine. You lost 7 wars, don't lose another. Next time will be your last, if I, and 10m Christians have our way. We are ready for battle., buddy.
Dave Levy (Zionist) ,   Burbank CaUS   (12.01.07)
17. #5 - Moronic talk.....
Jews are a nation, not only a religion. And we are entitled to the soveirgnty we have. And listen to your own hypocracy: lets form a Palestinian state in the West Bank but first we need to throw out all the Jews. Palestinians and Jews are each entitled to a state and there will be two, but one is, was and always will be Jewish. If you want us to leave the territories, then you take your bretheren from abroad. They're not coming here, man, face facts.
Andy - R. Hasharon ,   Jewish Israel   (12.01.07)
18. A binational state?
This formula failed everywhere on the planet, particularly where you have to coexist with muslims: from the ottoman empire to the empire of India, not to mention Yugoslavia, USSR, Algeria. There is always a good reason to oppress, discriminate, deport the dhimmis.
Raphael ,   Netanya   (12.01.07)
19. Two States For One People
I feel Israel should be one state for two people of equal rights and relative representation in the Knesset, This will solve the issue once and for all. No partition, no state for palestinians by 2008 or even 2080, no need to discuss the right of return and compensation and settlements can be built for all Jews, Christians and Moslems. What is more nicer than seeing my sons and your sons sharing the same class room enjoying peace and happiness. This seems to be the only option left for the Palestinians and may be also my brothers the Israelis too as talking about a Palestinian, viable state seems to be out of reach from an Israeli perspective. Why not. Who says the Palestinians want a state.
Anis ,   UAE   (12.01.07)
20. # 5 Ali, Rama, Israel
No man, you tried to write Pal-Arab propaganda. Before 1967 armistice lines were no borders, just armistice lines. And, precisely the attackers, id est, the Arabs didn't accept these lines as a basis for any future ptential peace agreement. Samaria, Judea and Azza are n ot Arab areas but instead claimed by both Arabs and Jews. Israeli villages and towns there are legal. About Arab villages and towns, it's questionable.
Josef Matamoros ,   Finland   (12.01.07)
21. What yours is mine and ..
what's mine is mine. Typical arabs wanting it all, no matter how they have to get it, even if it doesn't belong to them. For all the years of fighting, you would think the Israelis would realise now is the time to work to keep what's theirs, not to give it away.

When the Arabs call for a Jew free state? The proposed Palestinian state is worse than apartheid, it's just the planned base for the final solution to the Zionist problem. The Lord will recompense for the controversy of Zion. Esau a stubble, Jacob a fire!

Accepting Israel as a Jewish state should be a red line that should not be crossed! What is Israel negotiating for if not for the survival of Israel as Jewish majority nation?

29. 2 States
"Arabs want one state that is Palestinian-only and another one that is half-Arab". In the 1960's someone stated the definition of a communist compromise is "I'll take half of every thing you own".

Where are the Israeli politicians with balls? Nothing to talk about. This jerk has the nerve to say that Israel is not Jewish and they are still talking to him? If Palestine is clear of Jews, then let Israel clear out the Arabs. Fair?
