Two states for one people     Uri Orbach
31. #27: even more basic math
israel + jordan + fatahland + hamastan = 4 (three of which are reserved exclusively for arabs, and jews are forbidden by law to own property) in terms of land area: israel 20,330 sq km 17% jordan 91,971 sq km 78% fatahland 5,640 sq km 5% hamastan 360 sq km <1% obviously, the arabs do not need more land or another state - this is all about removing israel as a non-arab country in their midst, or in a word, genocide, by diplomatic means.
tom ,   toronto, canada   (12.02.07)
32. #10 hypocrite? #11 just a point
its ok for the arabic counrties to expel any and all jews, ok to create gaza (jew free) ok for the world to try and force israel to give away its land and uproot its people from it.....ok for islamofacists to etnically cleanse it of all juden......and yet you say Israel should keep those that wish for its destruction within it? can you understand why I think that is hypocritcal? #11 as for australia being for whites only? that is a load of crap, I was in melbourne the other day and wanted to see another white person....all I saw was lebanese, greeks, chinese, arabs, indians, etc. There once was a law allowing only white christians in, but guess what? the international community forced the govt. to change that because it was "racist" the country has been going down the tubes ever since....we now have moslem terrorists here as well. And the courts are so scared of being considered racist they dont even try to prosecute the terrorists and their supporters! In fact they are talking about prosecuting the federal police that combat terror, on the word of the very terror suspects!

33. #1 and #12 ADINA KUTNICKI
Adina I like what you write, but there are many better writers with excellent books, to chose as references other than Joan Peters, whose work has been criticized unmercifully, and in my opinion, rightly. CROSSROADS TO ISRAEL by CHRISTOPHER SYKES, for instance.
Ron Hoogmans ,   Vancouver British Co   (12.02.07)
34. 6 WRONG. Jews & CHritians always welcome in Arab Land
History dsys it. While Jews where discriminated against and killed in Europe they were welcomed in Arab Spain. For 1400 years, Christian and Jewish minorities lived in peace with Arabs.
Palstinian Christian ,   Palestine   (12.02.07)
35. Never a binational state
It takes only 1000 troublemakers on each side to turn a binational state into a hell-hole of civil war, terrorism, segragation, and destruction. And there's way more than 1000 on each that prefer to see the entire Palestinian/Israeli population eradicated. A binational state can never work. That sort of thing in every historical example has never worked. As much as we can talk about love and peace on the internet, the fact is, this is 2 people in a state of conflict, and that can't change. Israel should protect minority rights of course, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be or isn't a Jewish state. And the PA has no right not to recognize Israel for what it is.
Korem ,   New York, USA   (12.02.07)
36. Israel is a Jewish reservation
Israel is not just a country, it is an international reservation for the the preservation of the endangered Jewish nation, which the world has failed to protect. Israel does not have the mission of being any kind of state or political ideology, just the Jewish homeland, like a theme park. Attention Arabs and Europeans: Come visit, bring your money, buy a souvenir and get the hell out.
Chaim ,   Galus, Chutz LaAretz   (12.02.07)
37. Arab Phony "Palestinian":;Go back to Arabia!
Arabs don't belong in the Jewish homeland because they are committed to the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people. Arabs are already occupying Jewish land in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. Enough is enough!
Palestiniansareamyth ,   USA   (12.02.07)
38. Jordan
The Pals already have a homeland called Jordan, this is where they belong .there is no occupied land. The world has fallen for the biggest con ever, it is time people check out, what is it called now ? ah yes, History books.Israel has and always will be a pawn, to be used by the Arabs unless they say enough is enough,we owe you nothing
Mr UK ,   UK   (12.02.07)
39. Funny, I don't hear "apartheid" now, do I?
"Arabs want one state that is Palestinian-only" - the very definition of the word, and yet none of the Apaligists seem to notice. Funny how it only applies to Israel and the Jews, NEVER to anyone else. (Apaligist - lets see how long it takes to really catch on)
Steve ,   UK   (12.02.07)
40. #19 - who said they wanted a state? THEY did,
Why is it such a problem for the world to understand Israel wants to be Jewish, and has a right to be?? Culturally, religiously, and even politically, Jewish. And yet, here's still another Arab country heard from, saying we should dilute our identity to accomodate others. Name one other country on this planet who says "We'll be less American/British/Japanese/Russian /insert cultural identity here. Not one.
Steve ,   UK   (12.02.07)
41. Something you should all think about
How long do you think it'll be before they want the Israeli flag changed? "It's a Jewish symbol, Arabs live here too, it shouldn't be on a State flag, take it off public buildings, take it down, take it down, waaaahhh" This whole thing has served to convince the radical muslims of one thing: Terrorism, used long enough, eventually wins. We're talking about legitimizing TERRORISTS with a state of their own! Fatah/PLO is just as bad as Hamas, if only a bit quieter.
Steve ,   Uk   (12.02.07)
42. no suprise
Not enough Jordan created out of the Jewish Homeland is Jew free on 80% of what was mandated palestine. Now they want Stae No.2 jew free, then Hamastan jew free in Gaza, then on whats left you cant call Jewish because we will flood it with arabs. Of course you dont need a brain the size of a pea to see where all this is going right? But I promise you this, nevermind all the BS they they say and what we say. There will come a day when Israel with realise its proper destiny and there will be no hostile arabs within her only those prepared to live with us in peace. The rest will be sent over the river to Jordan. And we will replace the current state to The Kingdom Of Israel. So any arab or other who dont like it you can GFY in Jordan. But Israel will always be the Jewish Kingdom of Israel.
Yisraeli   (12.02.07)
43. A Word of Warning for the IDF...
If Israel states aloud a National policy NOT to recognize any chance of there being a "Palestinian state" until ALL Arab states officially recognize that Israel has been, and will continue to be a "Jewish state," one can expect that the first coherent words (after the screams), from the mouths of even "moderate Arab states" to be, "Of course you know, this means WAR!" The IDF had better "warm up" those Nuclear Ambiguous bombs; it's gonna need 'em!
Roy ,   Comanche, TX USA   (12.02.07)
44. State
The Arabs and Muslims have 22 states of their own on a huge piece of territory, whereas the Jews only have very tiny Israel on a small parcel of land. Yet, the Arabs refuse to let us Jews have even that much. They do not want us in "their" area of the world to say the least. Unfortunately we Jews are our own worst enemy. Most Jews in the world refuse to make aliyah. If there were more Jews here who truly love Israel we would be able to withstand the pressure to give up any land at all.
Liat ,   Israel   (12.02.07)
45. #3, There cannot be bi-national state
Because Muslims are incapable to co-exist with non-Muslims anywhere in the world. Besides, while the Arabs have 22 exclusively Arab states, there should be at least one exclusively Jewish. As to religious freedom and tolerance, point to one Muslim country where it exists? Not a single one.
AK   (12.02.07)
46. No.7: Andy, nothing is certain about the future
Hubris like yours brought Oslo and its dangerous aftermath. Why don't you face the fact that Israel is a little country being now pushed around in a way nobody would dare to push a backward, third world Sudan? Hubris and groundless assumptions has finally brought Israel to this dangerous position she finds herself in and people like you still refuse to face reality. Face the facts, your government headed by Rabin brought in a bunch of terrorists from Tunisia and now they dictate to you whether you will exist as a Jewish state. And make no mistake about it, they have more power that you do. Your current PM got his marching orders, whatever they are, in Annapolis and your Supreme Court Judge got her orders from the American Ambassador. Your government is being treated with less respect that is being afforded a terrorist non-entity like Abbas’s PA. That much for your independence and your ability to decide your future. I would think that those 'little' facts would stop any optimist dead in his tracks and then think hard how to undo the damage. When will you finally realize that it is your heedless and arrogant politicians and their silly followers stupidly determined to do anything for peace with people who will NEVER keep peace with Israel that have managed to turn those miraculous 1967 and 1973 victories into a complete defeat. Moronic talk? At least someone is questioning where Israel is heading, for you obviously continue to believe in fairy tales.

47. Anis, from UAE, build churches and synagigues in UAE and
open unlimited immigration of Hindus, Chinese Buddhists, Christians and Jews from around the world and grant them all equal rights and do away with sharia since it is a religious law. For somebody from your neck of the woods to preach tolerance and inclusiveness is an incredible chutzpah...
ak   (12.02.07)
48. 34, Palestinian Christian, it is a pure fabrication.

49. #34 Jews and Arab co-existence
You are absolutely right. Until WWI Jews and Arabs lived together as brothers in many countries. Damascus, Tyre, Mecca, Beirut, Baghdad all had thriving Jewish communities. Israel had Jews living in Jerusalem and were the majority population sharing the city with their Arab neighbors. Like all neighbors there were good times and bad but mostly people coexisted well...then came the change. Jews were thrown or forced out of most Arab countries, their lands and properties confiscated and those that remained turned into second class citizens or worse. Were Israel to "grant the right of return" to former Arab families, should not these Arab states do the same for Jews? If that were the case Jews would occupy more land in Arab countries than Israel covers in its entirety. They could control the parliament of Lebanon and Syria. Yet no Arab nation has ever thought to offer the "right of return" to Jewish families they expelled...is that fair?
Daniel ,   IL USA   (12.02.07)
50. Why Palestinians not accepted by brothers in SaudiArabia?
......SaudiArabia got enough land....
KMR ,   Middle East   (12.02.07)
51. #10 - Pete
That is exactly the point - Israel is a Democratic state with Moslems, Druse, Bedouin, Bahai and 52 Christian denominations all praying freely. The PA has no Jews (dead or fled) and in Gaza virtually no Christians (dead or fled) and the West Bank dwindling. Don't take my word - check the statistics and the former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey. Israel - if it is split equally it the PA will be tow thirds Jewish, if one state is formed the Jews will be a minority - Been there Done that got the bloody burnt T shirt
Sheila ,   Jerusalem Israel   (12.02.07)
52. to #10 Pete
No one is seriously suggesting kicking out all the non-Jews. However, there is a difference here. I lived as a religious minority for most of my life in the US. I never threw a rock at a car, never planted a bomb or shot up a car. I respected my non-Jewish neighbors and got along. Christmas time I sucked it up and went about my business even though it was sometimes uncomfortable. I was and am a LOYAL American citizen. Not like many Arabs here, including members of the parliament who collude with our enemies.

Practice what you preach. When are you coming over here? I made the move 18 years ago. It was hard at first, but now it's ok.

54. Long life to discrimination ?
"Not to mention that many Palestinians would prefer to be discriminated against in the Jewish State rather than live as citizens of equal rights in a Palestinian State. They know why." So, let them be discriminated against ?
Yair   (12.02.07)
55. Counterfeiter

56. #45
There already is a binational state here.
Yair   (12.02.07)
57. Two states for "two" people, what this means
Yes, this perception is based on one being Palestinian and the other being Jewish which is not an equivalent. Palestinians are not only Muslims but of other faiths as well, so it does not pertain to a "faith." whereas Jewish is already described as a "nationality" in Israel. One cannot convert to being a Palestinian in order to return to Palestine, but anyone can convert to Judiaism and suddenly have this right to become a citizen of Israel. Being a Muslim as well would not give anyone entitlement to live in Palestine if that person was not Palestinian or a descendant of Palestinians. That is where this author has it all confused. True, there is no such thing as the Israeli people because there is no such thing as an Israeli nationality. Israel does not want it this way because then it would be a state of all its citizens which would be synonymous with other countries throughout the world. In this respect, Israel stands alone in its policies and racist laws that are not the equivalent to any other country in the world. One democratic state is the only solution, and Palestinian refugees should not be deprived of their right of return under international law and UN resolutions to go back to the places where they originally came from. It is sad to think that even in death, a Palestinian cannot return to be buried in his beloved land because he or she does meet the racist criteria of who Israel gives that right to which has nothing to do with where that person came from but only if the racist standards are met of who is Jewish.
Marlene Newesri ,   New York City   (12.02.07)
58. In response to No. 12
The answer is simple. Because citizens of Saudia Arabia are Saudi Arabians, just as citizens of Egypt are Egyptians, just as citizens of Lebanon are Lebanese. The religion of a person does not give any one of these people interchangeable rights to these countries based on religious criteria, just as an American Muslim would not have automatic citizenship to any Middle East country. But an American Jew or anyone who meets the racist criteria of who is Jewish according to Israel can go to Israel and have all rights even over the indigenous people of the land. I hope this somewhat answers your ridiculous question.
Marlene Newesri ,   New York City   (12.02.07)
59. My post on S. Arabia was meant for #50
Not No. 12 - sorry about that.

60. four states for one pseudo-people
Count 'em--Jordan (has Palestinian majority, exists in Eastern Palestine), Palestine, Isratine, Hamastan-Gaza. Add these four Palestinian-Arab-Muslim states to the already existing 20 Arab states and 56 Muslim states, and you have yet more terrorism, dictatorship, corruption, backwardness, and hatred in the world (oh, and no Israel, the one beacon in the all the gloom).
