151. Israel is a burden
true ,   bozeman, montana   (12.10.07)
Talk like this article only makes more American's feel that Israel is a burden. To those who hate us, they see that we always take Israel's side and see that we prop up Isreal. Who was the UN to create a nation in a part of the world where there were already nations? I'm tired of hearing fools like Yizhak Cohen say crap like this and play the holocaust card. How much more should American's have sacrificed in WWII?
152. Fed up with propaganda
American Expat ,   Eruope   (12.10.07)
If Israel is truly god's chosen nation, then god will take care of it. The US is NOT god and some of us are tired and fed up of sending billions of our taxpayers' dollars to support you (a treacherous, self-serving nation who is NO friend/ally of the US) while our infrastructure is in dire need of repair and many Americans are being deprived of basic services. Our alliance with you has cost us in many respects and you have become a burden. It's time you look out for yourselves. You have an army and sophisticated weaponry. Go after Iran yourselves and don't involve us. We've sacrificed more than enough for you already!
153. HOW OFFENSIVE!
Maureen ,   Chicago, USA   (12.10.07)
I'm sick of the United States bailing out Israel's behind only to read remarks like this. It's never enough for you, is it? Guess what? Not everyone in America is Jewish. I'm Irish, do you see us intervening in Ireland the way we do in Israel? Do you see Americans who are Irish getting their panties in a twist over what's going on in Ireland the way Jews in America do? No, because their loyalties lie HERE in America. I hope all of you countries blow yourselves to smithereens while we sit back and watch. Maybe then there will be peace on most of the earth.
154. Oh please, Shir
Cameron ,   USA   (12.10.07)
Spare us the ' The Chosen People will always triumph' routine. Israel's existence has always been precarious and getting even more so. Everyone on the planet is all too aware that elements in the Islamic World are pushing affairs to a bloody, dramatic high-point and Israel had better be prepared to act decisively to ensure it's own survival is still in place when the dust settles. Israelis are the one people on the planet who simply don't have the luxury of resting on their laurels. The sheer momentum of events is building, Shir, and if you really want to " take the glory " then stop with the empty rhetoric and ACT. Deal with events before events deal with you & yours. The sand in the hour-glass is slipping away. America looks after itself and Israel had better start doing the same.
155. Iran and Nukes...
COL Jim in VA ,   Fairfax, VA   (12.10.07)
Iran is an issue for Israel and hers alone. I've read all the rantings/ravings about the situtation and I can assure you that many senior officers will less than enthusiastic to shed American blood when Israel has the capability and responsibility to police it's own threats.
156. Troubled
Jeff ,   Ann Arbor, US   (12.10.07)
I don't claim to be an expert on this region, or the many issues and history which have contributed to the situation today. But, in my opinion, Mr. Cohen's remarks here contain the same (unnecessary) level of rhetoric and drama that too often plague these discussions.
157. One more thing...
Jeff ,   Ann Arbor, USA   (12.10.07)
After reading several comments here, it seems that if someone doesn't completely agree with Mr. Cohen's general sentiments, he/she is an anti-semite - and that's insane. I don't speak for any American other than myself, but it seems to me that many people here are worried about the economy, the mortgage crisis, finding solutions to social security, etc. The people with whom I come into contact every day are not talking about Israel - just as they're not talking about the Sudan, or North Korea, or any other country that may be in the news. The truth is I have far more pressing things to worry about than what happens to Israel. Look - if people are that worried about what may or may not happen in that region then move. To make comparisons to Europe during WWII is nothing more than propaganda. Is America not fully recognizing the threat that Iran presents? Perhaps so - but that is really not the point. Nazis forcefully took people from their homes and sent them to concentation camps - people did not have a choice. There isn't anyone today forcing Israelis into concentration camps. If Israelis are that worried about Iran, then move.
158. Don't Speak for me!
Paul ,   St. Louis, MO   (12.10.07)
I'm for the USA helping Israel. It's the only civilized nation in the middle east
159. Israel, be careful.
Uncle Sam ,   Minneapolis, USA   (12.10.07)
One more outburst and I'll take my checkbook and credit card away from you!
160. Israel
DahktaD ,   Park City, USA   (12.10.07)
USA ignored Auschwitz? The arrogance of Cohen is startling. We have lost more than our fair share of servicemen protecting Israel...not mention the BILLIONS in aid we give her. Anytime we get into a war, there seems to be one common denominator...Israel. If Israel wants to stir the pot, go for it...but I for one am tired of Israel's demand on the USA to clean up it's mess.
161. NIE:US MIDEAST POLICY
michael murphy ,   st. louis missouri   (12.10.07)
The US has done more for Israel than can be reasonably expected of any nation including this IRAQ fiasco...clearly not in our interests. Our "Cuba" needs to work on being a better neighbor and handle its own problems....Americans are sick of trying to solve a problem that is not solvable-the self-created myth of Israel.
162. We are not #1
Bruce ,   Phoenix USA   (12.10.07)
I stand for Israel. We as people of the USA must unite with our brothers and sisters of God's choosen people, Israel, and protect them at all cost. CUFI.org Get the truth!!!
163. Protect the choosen
MacDonald ,   USA,   (12.10.07)
Enjoy life now America. If we turn our back on Israel we will not live in the luxury that God has blessed us with. We all need to be pro-israel, and not bow down to anti-semtic Islam and Nazism. The Islamic communtiy wants Israel for themselves and they have proven over and over they will do anything to get it. 9/11 was suppose to be a wake up call, but our PC ways have turned it into a kool-aid party. If a country threatens the death of our allies, we must take action immediately, or we will continuiously be threaten. Change your mind @ Obsession.org, CUFI.org. God protect Israel, and Bless the USA
164. Have at it boys
dpb   (12.10.07)
#13 is absolutely correct -- if Israel wants to deal with Iran differently that's their choice -- have at it boys.
165. Minister Cohen
Mack Hall ,   Kirbyville, Texas   (12.10.07)
God bless Israel and the Jewish people, and save them from insolent, ally-baiting, ungrateful twits like Mr. Cohen.
166. Bush can't protect his own country
Jones ,   USA   (12.10.07)
Foot dragging and obfuscation re our illegal immigration is the fault of ALL OF OUR LEADERS. Of course Bush ignores your issues; he's well practiced at ignoring ours first! The terrorists are already on our shores just waiting....
167. #100
Elmer ,   USA   (12.10.07)
What would you expect from a white flag waving democrat thats still one of Clintons boys. This intel report was written by 3 democrats that hate Bush, yet one of the 3 said just the opposite back in July.
168. U.S. stay out of mid-east
Jeff Miller ,   San Francisco, CA   (12.10.07)
Enough Americans have died in the mid-east. Isreal needs to do what it needs to do but the U.S. is under no legal or moral obligation to put American people in harm's way for Israel. Enough is enough.
169. The West Is Through With You
John Locke ,   Seattle, WA   (12.10.07)
The intelligence report told us the truth we're no longer going to be the puppet military for Israel. You want a war? Go do it yourself, and best wishes to you on it. We've given more that our fair share to this fight, bankrupting America in the process. There never was a reason to fight over there in the first place. All we learned from 9/11 is that aircraft doors ought to be impenetrable and that pilots need to be armed. I'll not believe another word that comes out of Israel. I've been to Auschwitz and Israel's empty warnings about Iran are not even close to comparison, and most Americans know that.
170. #13 Is Absolutely Correct
EMC ,   Buffalo, NY   (12.10.07)
Israel's problems are Israel's alone. If Israel does not want Iran to pursue nuclear technology, Israel must destroy its own, and so must America... If you dislike that option, then don't complain that Iran may want theirs, too. Otherwise, we are all hypocrites to demand Iran to forgo what America and Israel already have. It's simple. America is not a Jew-first nation (we are a nation that respects religions and cultures equally, though our administration does not, and the Israeli lobby would like it if America were its vassal). Embracing Zionism is a strategically and morally stupid thing to do. America will once again be a broker of peace, and not an enabler of Israeli/Zionist aggression.
171. #133 reply
Doug ,   Portland, OR US   (12.10.07)
#133 says "We are strong people, we are no ´ghetto Jews´ and shall never be. Israel survived from the late 1800´s to 1973 without American help and Israel will survive now. Israel will win, and take all the glory, Americans are the ones who will lose" You are certainly welcome to all the "glory" you can get. Personally, I'll take the lives of American soldiers over all the "glory" you might get from nuking Iran. And make no mistake: Nuclear weapons ae the ONLY way Israel can defeat a very robust Iranian military. Why you think we should sacrifice our sons when you will not sacrifice yours is utterly beyond me.
172. Israel's comments
Frank Paoluccio ,   Plymouth,ma. USA   (12.10.07)
After all the US has done for Israel, they now have the attitude What have you done for me lately? Really appreciative is it not? Wake up Israel, or you may be in the next big one all by your lonesome! The israeli government hasn't exactly acted very efficiently in many of it's problems so they can't afford to throw darts at their biggest and best ally! Again wake up or surely you may rue day you kissed off America!
173. What a Rotten Accusation.
Will ,   Tampa, FL   (12.10.07)
How can Cohen begin to state that the US was indifferent to reports of the Holocaust. Was not the US already engaged with the Nazis – where they not already trying to stop them in every way? Who then was instrumental in the liberating of Europe’s Jews from the concentration camps, France, Sweden? Who helped create Israel and has lent support and backing when it would have been easy to go about their own business and pursue their own interests? Mr. Cohen, perhaps you should not join the convenient and stylish chorus of condemnation of the US and instead recognize that Israel and the World is better for the existence and indifference of American policy. Don’t believe me – do without us, see how that works for you. Give us some credit for dealing with the hard stuff while the enlightened countries sit back and click their tongues.
174. We ignored Auschwitz?
Eric Anderson ,   Park City, USA   (12.10.07)
That may be the most vile rant I've ever read. Europe is covered with the graves of Americans who fought the Nazis. Israel would not exist in the first place with the United States. Tell you what, Mr. Cohen: Try to get along without American aid for a few years and see what happens.
175. Auschwitz
JG ,   Los Angeles, USA   (12.10.07)
As a Jew, an American and the descendant of Holocaust victims and survivors, can I please ask the Israelis to stop dropping Auschwitz references every time they ask for American support? The Holocaust was an obscene act, the very nadir of Western culture, society and history. The importance of remembering the Holocaust is so high-- crucial in my view to the continued survival of humanity-- that we Jews should know better than to roll out the memories of the 6 million dead and our lost European civilization every time a despot like Ahmadinejad or Saddam or anyone else rattles their sabres.
176. get over it
ed ,   myrtle beach, usa   (12.10.07)
We are not your Daddy nor your body guards. Americans are waking up and are unwilling to let Israel pull our strings anymore. The days of someone screaming anti-semitic when we disagree with you are over. Grow up and try to be a real country for once.
177. On Your Side With This One
Kevin Shuman ,   Colorado USA   (12.10.07)
Not really a great friend of the Jewish people here, but I'm with you guys on this issue.Iran will attack Israel with nuclear weapons if it can.I don't understand the American government or their motives.Shame on them.
178. End of Nuke program
Juan ,   St. Louis   (12.10.07)
Any simple fool could understand why the Iranians suspended their nuke program in 03. They had their bags packed for Allah-land for when the SEALs came marching in. The Lions were quaking in their dens when the US hard-asses were going into Baghdad. God Bless our Troops for letting God sort out Al Queda and the Insurgents so that we don't have to. BTW...The surge is working!
179. Israel we need your help
Michael ,   Indianapolis, IN   (12.10.07)
We have an immigration problem here with Mexico and we could use your help. Please let us know what you plan on doing to pay us back for all the things we've done for you all these years.
180. #22
daniel ,   bethlehem nh usa   (12.10.07)
And when did Israel get this land? And who did they get it from? And what about the Palestinians they took it from? Guess what, peace in your country would probably bring peace to the whole region. I am not anti anything except antireligious fanatic whether it is Islamic extremist or Judas extremist or the evangelical extremist taking over this country. Fight your own wars with your own weapons. No nuke issues in Iran USA should stay out of it.
