Government to fund new cycling infrastructure     Shahar Haselkorn
1. i love to use my mountain bike: weather permitting
where i presently reside we are buried under 2 feet of snow----which will probably last till april.even when the weather is good---its not safe to be on the roads here---too many road rage-ers driving drunk/drugged/angry or stupid-------i have to go cross country /thru woods or on the sidewalks to survive my trips by bike------the government here in north east north america couldnt care less about us guys yet .maybe if gasoline goes up 10 to 15 dollars a gallon more might get interested in biking then government might do something for us-----i'd like to make aliyah but not under olmerts government thanks-------when israel decides to get rid of the squatters olmert supports and allows to live in/on our land let me know please---i want to live amongst my own people ------not with a bunch of strangers to worry about.

2. cycling & pedestrians
I appreciate that cycling is good for pollution control but what about the rights of pedestrians? It is not enough that we have to step on to the road and risk being run over to be able to get by dustbins and parked motorbikes and cars but now cyclist seem to assume that every pavement is a cycle lane - and it is becoming just as dangerous to walk on the pavement as to walk in the middle of the road - so where are the designated pedestrian lanes?

3. sidewalks are for pedestrians only ?
yes i understand your concern----because in the winter time here i walk because the town does a lousy job of keeping the streets and sidewalks clear of mounds of snow or ice ----too dangerous to bike even----but also in this town of 10 thousand only a handfull walk any time of the year---just about everyone has 1 or 2 cars/trucks and most drive----the side walks are ancient technology here----its a wonder some government "genius" doesnt try to get a medal by suggesting they be removed to make wider safer streets for the mad max drivers to race on.

4. Sidewalks
The sidewalks are a nightmare in Israel. Cars park on them randomly, without any care that they block them completely and force pedestrians onto the street. The police couldn't care less enough to enforce any laws that may exist. The sidewalks are supposed to be only for pedestrians, but with the general apathy and "me first" attitude, is it any wonder that motorbikes and reckless cyclists think of them as a shortcut?

5. Absolutely to be encouraged
This trend is nothing but positive. More!

6. gosh..those poor cyclists..I mean sheesh!
"Current infrastructure unsatisfactory ." That's really sweet to think of the cyclists..but what of those that lack a 'family infrastructure' bec. try as they might, they can find no job and their kids go hungry. How about 1 million puny dollars of the $12.6mil. go to causes that could REALLY use it?
