It's true that the Vatican represents a sort of theocratic state, though it might also be thought of as an oversized church with closed services. In that sense the Patriarch's criticism is hypocritical. More imporantly however, his criticism is right. Discrimination against Arabs is rampant, everyone knows it, and nobody has ever answered the question of how a nation is supposed to maintain its demographic while not discriminating against minorities. As an ex Catholic turned humanistic Jew I totally support this Bishop, because I believe all out world is one big village and everybody has to respect each other. I don't care is Sabbah or Haniye will be next cheif Rabbi of Israel or Islaltine. What is most troubling is that Catholic charch doesn't recognize gay relationships and multiple partners. As a matter of fact this practice was excepted and practiced by Romans prior to Christianity. I think all 4 monoteistic religions must rule Israel instead of the Jews. I pray that one day will see Chief rabbi, Pope or Imam as a gay in holly land. I recomment to combine Holy Qouran, Torah and New Testement into one book and create one new religion. Rather than attack Sabbah for alerting Jews to the future Vatican Policy towards Israel, Zionists should recognize the danger and be ready to defeat the oppressors. Sabbah is a figurehead and is meaningless in the Vatican's ultimate aim of helping to destroy Israel. Remember, the Church hierarchy is not a democracy that gives its officials the right to contradict accepted Church policy. If Sabbah had supported abortion, his butt would have been greased and he no longer would be a church official. Obviously, there are powerful interests in the Church hierarchy that would love to see Jewish Israel destroyed. Remember, the Church's failure to confront Hitler was not an accident. Ideas of Christians involvement with government are complicated cause were not so during NT times. Ideas of government were of the churches. So have separation of church and state in many cases, cause not everyone would be part of the church. Christians called to be good citizens of whatever government that was in power. Also land not mentioned in NT. However this idea wouldn't work in other religions, especially in holy land, in which religion is tied with government and with land. So he has to be realistic.
