Keren ,   Israel-SP   (12.23.07)
Nothing else than business.Defeating the enemy is not worth, since very profitous business would be gone. Shame, imbelievable shame!
4. Idiots !
ben ,   singapore   (12.23.07)
You have been selling these technology to the outside world by models and generationsin pieces all the while. NOW YOU SAY IT WILL TAKE 2 Half YEARS. i feel sorry for that General Gabi Ashkenazi for being surrounded by this kind of defense minister and gang. After all this years, this is what you guy can come up with...2 .5 years time ? Nonsense! Absolute nonsense ! time is of essense ! Kidding me right, it is secret isnt it Barak ? oi Mr . Barak give us a break man ; -)~ RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems, you must hurry up boys,....hurry up. Gals there please push the boys to do it fast or do what ever necessary, please . We need the Dome . 2.5 years too long :-)~
5. No one should have to wait that long!
Mark ,   Boston   (12.23.07)
6. defeatist expensive solution
avrom ,   Bet Shemesh   (12.23.07)
the way to combat the Kassams is obliterate the areas from where they originate that is what Great Britain did in World War 11 the firing of Kassams is a war crime bombing the areas from where the Kassams originate is preventing the war crime being perpetrated
7. Double-Edged Sword ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.23.07)
Then the proponants of the two-state solution will say it's OK to withdraw from the West Bank as we can shield ourselves from the inevitable missile attacks. I think this has more to do with awarding fat contracts to friends than it does with defense. My own opinion is that defensive systems, like fortifications, are a poor substitute for resolute & aggressive preemptive action. There is undoubtably a place for missile defense but it will never be the panacea it is made out to be. And a further contrary opinion - it will allow future gov't.'s to postpone necessary preemptive action - as if our spineless leaders need any more excuses for inaction. This is the same mentality that created the Maginot line or the Bar-Lev line, neither of which worked. Sadly, our "leaders" do not understand the truth of that old adage, "the best defense is a good offense" .....
8. Hezbollah missiles stopped because of level of retaliation
Sam ,   Canada   (12.23.07)
The Hezbollah missiles and Palestinian suicide bombing stopped because of the level of Israeli retaliation. The Israeli government doesn't have the stomach to stop the qassams in the same manner.
9. Defense against the forces of irrationaity
Brod ,   USA   (12.23.07)
Tit for Tat defense system may not be effective against the forces of irrationality which have the upper hand in the numbers game. The dark forces may launch thousands of their Wahhabhist/Ayatollahist-oil money funded rockets all at once with NO qualms for the aftermath of their atrocities. How would such a defense system work? There should be a better way of defending and protecting the homeland by defeating the enemies using the 1967 model. This model is the only effective system in a situation where a small country is being surrounded by millions of heavily armed ravenouse wolves whose combined states stretch from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean.
10. Hopefully the anti-Qassams will hit the Qassams and rain dow
Squalid Ibn Harman ,   Qtir   (12.23.07)
Hopefully the anti-Qassams will hit the Qassams and rain down on Gaza - Real counter-terror when Gaza gets the shrapnel of their own Qassams back on them. Whatever goes up has to come down - Somewhere. Better in Gaza
11. what a load of crap!@R#$@$
(12.23.07)
everybody who have seen "auvda" on channel 2 a few days ago knows that there's a laser anti missile system perfect for qasams just waiting to be bought, just gathering dust over at texas, USA, but of course, nobody's willing to spend the money for it.
12. Instead of doing what ANY NORMAL COUNTRY WOULD
Joseph P. ,   Jerusalem   (12.23.07)
i.e. bomb the hell out of them, the powerless government of Israel plays around with the lives of their own citizens. Are the blood of the enemies more red than those of your own citizens? By the time this anti-rocket system will be ready, the terrorists will have missiles threatening Tel-Aviv and even the Knesset in Jerusalem. PERHAPS, IF A GOOD BOMB LANDS ON THE KNESSET, THE SO-CALLED “LEADERS” WILL WAKE UP.
13. Does it intercept flying missiles or
Damir ,   Russia   (12.23.07)
automatically shots back to the point of the launch?
14. Israel has a lot to learn from the Palestinians
Squalid Ibn Harman ,   Qtir   (12.23.07)
So what if you are 2.5 years aways from an effective anti-missile system for Qassams and Katyushas. Learn from the Palestinians. It is not important whether you can hit your target or not. The important thing is that you keep shooting. The more the better. Sooner or later you are bound to hit something. So shoot back before the Qassams are launched, while they are being launched, after they are being launched, after no one remembers that they were launched. Just keep shooting until they lose enough sleeps, shake at night in fear, are afraid to leave their houses, and learn what it is like to be terrororized. Keep it up until they beg us to take back Shalit and offer us territorial concessions just so we stop the shooting. So let IDF shoot. Let the civilian of Sderot and surroundings shoot rockets and mortars back at Gaza. Set up a franchise and invite others from abroad to come and shoot. Learn the lessons of the Palestinians and just keep shooting.
15. #13 Damir
(12.23.07)
The rocket seeks the terrorist's mother flies right under her skirt and kabooom. but it takes 2.5 years from now to seek all mothers of all terrorists until the system is flawless.
16. Want to stop it? Two simple words.
Steve ,   UK   (12.23.07)
Retake Gaza. But since they won't, look for the machine shop manufacturing the Qassams. Not the explosives, the actual metal bodies. How many can there be equipped enough to make a rocket that will fly properly? Either the shop has to have a way to roll sheet metal into tubes, or they're getting the tubes elsewhere. And if they're producing them in quantity, how hard could it be to identify the shop?
17. Israel doesn't have two years
Alberto ,   NYC   (12.23.07)
Israel can't afford to wait two years. A major IDF operation in Gaza is inevitable.
18. NO NEED TO CONSIDER OVERTURES FOR "HUDNA IF THIS SYSTEM IS I
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (12.23.07)
INCREASE THE SCIENTIFIC AND PHYSICAL WORK FORCE FOR THIS PROJECT ,SO THAT ALL GLITCHES TO THE SYSTEM ARE IRONED OUT MUCH FASTER.THIS WILL BRING A MUCH NEEDED SIGH OF RELIEF TO ALL WHO ARE WITHIN RANGE OF THE CONSTANT DAILY BOMBARDMENT OF THE MISSILES.
19. ...in two years....
Ed ,   USA   (12.23.07)
What the Israeli government does not understand is the "ba shanah habaha"...is the title and lyrics to a popular song....it is not a policy.
20. 2 years???
thommy ,   germany   (12.23.07)
i dont life in sderot but 2 years are fucking long and who knows if it will intercept everything then what about stopping them of shooting rockets?
21. barak's conduct as PM
marcel   (12.23.07)
Barak should reveal why given his alleged great military credentials, he turned out so anemic as PM. When israelis were publically lynched in ramallah, why didn't he hurt the arabs. Something happened that doesn't sound right. Olmert is the embodiment of barak's paralysis except Olmert has always been a coward. That's why he talked and talks tough about Lebanon and gaza. He can't deliver so he can only talk tough. The man is an absolute coward. Culd it be that an israel could be this way? it happens, its hard to accept it, but Olmert is one of the greatest cowards on the face of the earth. its not a question of him undertaking strong military action. He is possessed by cowardice and everyone including the arabs know it. Naturally he plays rough with his fellow kadimites and politics. He also offers concessions without prompting, like raising the flag, I give up. This is his M.O.. Shin bet or mossad ought to remove him if winograd cannot.
22. And how soon will Olmert's PERSONAL bunker be ready?
Joseph P. ,   Jerusalem   (12.23.07)
23. #16: Simpler than that
Damir ,   Russia   (12.23.07)
They use general purpose water pipes. The question about their imports had been aroused earlier here on Ynet. So you see where problem lies: these Qassams are dirt cheap but deadly precise. And countering them requires the space-grade technology, not even developed yet. I suspect someone told the Palestinians that in WWII times Soviet teenagers were producing missiles for Katyusha MLRS.
24. This Article IS Such Rubbish!
Ginette ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.23.07)
It hardly deserves any comments or talkbacks even though, Terry in Eilat said it best (again!). What do you think Hezbollah and their gangs are going to do for 2 ½ years? Tweetling their thumbs?
25. Squalid Ibn Harman , Qtir
Ginette ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.23.07)
I don't know who you are but I like your way of thinking.
26. Pssst. Over here. Shhhhh!
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (12.23.07)
Psssst! Shhh. Be very quiet. So I got this idea, but we dont want anyone to hear about it because it is a BIG secret. The bad thing is I dont have any "Iron Dome" cutsey, kitschy call sign name for it yet. That is bad. What we do is (quiet now) BOMB THE SNOT OUT OF GAZA. all of their main and secondary roads turned into mush. ALL of the waterside facilities turned into gar-BARGE. All of their public facilities leveled. No air facilities. No storage. No hospitals. If it moves, it gets trashed. All vehicles are target rich environment. Any concentration of people that even looks like it wants to play soldier, gets nailed but good. ALL first, second, third, forth line political figures get turned into pate. In other wording, Israel treats Gaza like they are a hostile entity. Hozabout this name: Operation "Hostile Entity"? No? Too warlike? Dont worry, it'l never be done anyway.
27. too, too, too
tom ,   toronto, canada   (12.23.07)
too much - $207 million to stop $100 fireworks rockets like the qassams. sandbags and concrete are a lot cheaper. too little - a couple of batteries to defend sderot and ashqelon won't protect all the smaller settlements along the border. every kibbutz and moshav deserves the same protection. too late - another two and a half years, at the rate of 2,000 qassms a year, means ANOTHER FIVE THOUSAND, before the system is even in place, if it works. sandbags and concrete are a safer bet.
28. the rockets are firing now other deterents needed
zionist forever   (12.23.07)
Barak might think that Israel is going to be secure now that there is a system thats going to be up and running in 2 and half years maybe Hamas and the other terrorists will be good enough to stop firing rockets for the next 2 and half years till Iron Dome is ready. The solution for now must be to clean house and find another detret based on fear. CUT THE ELECTRICTY AND ALL FUEL DELIVERIES FOR A WEEK. That way they can get a taste of life without electricty caan be like. WHILE THERE IS NO POWER SEND TROOPS INTO GAZA TO CLEAN OUT THE SHIT. This is when they are weakest and we can do as much damage to their production facilities and kill off as many terrorists as possible. TELL THEM FOR EVERY ROCKET IN FUTURE THERE WILL BE 1 DAY WITHOUT POWER. A couple of months of having their power cut off reguarly and the people are going to tell the terrorists stop firing rockets. If the terrorists dont get the xupport of the people on the street they cant function or survive. Much cheaper than Iron Dome and we can do it immidiatly. All we need is a little courage on the part of the politicians to say gloves off time and stop worrying about being proportionate or trying to play the humaitarian not wanting to hurt ordinary people .. as long as they give their support to terrorists they are part of the problem.
29. We already have iron domes!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (12.23.07)
Check the head of any knesset member. All have iron domes and rusty also.
30. Patience Sderot. Only 2 Years And You Can Leave Your Holes.
Dan Friedman ,   NYC, USA   (12.23.07)
