32. #30 "orphanages" in Israel & Russia
Aviva ,   Israel   (12.26.07)
I have a friend who has worked at a girl's home in Israel (Bayit Lepleytot). It may surprise you, but very few of these children are "orphans." They have at least one parent and other extended family, for for various reasons (parent in prison, drug addiction, etc.) are unable to care for them. They come from abusive family situations. They receive structure and loving guidance at the home and they feel secure for the first time in their lives. Their parents and relatives do not want to give them away to strangers.

Says it's murder and then says it's OK. Strange. Adoption is always an option.

"And still, as a woman and a mother, I must reject the religious hypocrisy and politically correct attitude of the religious social discourse, and declare that I am in favor of abortions. " I am shocked and astounded by such warped thinking. It is impossible to know where to begin to carry on discussion with someone who has decided to view moral relativism as a higher standard than God's standards and declare adherance to Yahweh as religious hypocrisy, not to mention the lie that doing what is right is politically correct in this ever deteriorating society.
36. abortion
Jilly ,   Seattle, WA USA   (12.26.07)
You never heard of adoption? So glad you aren't MY mother - she would never have justified murdering me - or my sisters - because she thought that we might cut into her "all about me" time.
37. What is life?
Frank ,   Canada   (12.26.07)
Mishali has a wrong definition of life. Life is only about being alive. Material difficulties related to raising children are not life. Moreover, people thinking that killing babies is a good way to improve life of others must support extermination of Arabs as a way to improve life of Israelis.
38. To Rivkah [14]
Lois ,   Israel   (12.26.07)
I have Cystic Fibrosis and I wish I'd never been born. I honestly think that my mother should have aborted me. What do you say about that?
39. #38 Cystic Fibrosis
Shalom   (12.26.07)
Don't know what Rivkah would say. I say, get help! There are many people out there with cf or worse who make the most out of every moment.
40. What If
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.26.07)
Yael says, "As a mother, had my daughter faced pregnancy at a very young age, I would strongly recommend that she terminate it rather than punish herself and the child throughout her life" Let's turn this around, shall we. As a DAUGHTER, had YAEL'S MOTHER faced pregnancy at a very early age, what would THE DAUGHTER recommend?
41. Abortion Is Spiritual Poverty
Numeaning ,   Miami USA   (12.26.07)
When a woman says, “I cannot raise this child”, an alcoholic says, "I cannot stop drinking", or the dangerously obese person says, "I can't stop eating" , we know that there is a sickness and denial here that belies the truth, because others have overcome those challenges and found hapiness. It is a terrible poverty that a young child must be die so you can live in this world as you choose.
42. abortion is murder, but
Sydney ,   Canada   (12.26.07)
Like everything else, the debate is taken out of context or just too simplistic. The feminist agenda is to have the Rabbis give a blanket Heter (permission). Does the author really believe that the Rabbis would give a "blanket Heter" for abortions? These matters are discussed confidentially between people and their Rav and that is the way decisions should be made--not in the public forum. These are sensitive matters and should be dealt with accordingly. The rabbis individually know their cases, who is asking and what are the circumstances, all before making very difficult decisions with the sensitivity needed. I also refer you to the Zohar in Parashat Shmot if you want to deal with the question of abortions. So, on a one-on-one basis, discussed discretely between the Rabbi, the couple, and, where needed, the doctor, decisions can be made quietly, discretely. But don't expect the Rabbis to come out publicly pro-abortion. So
43. So you plead guilty before G-d?
Daniel Ben Adam ,   SF USA   (12.26.07)
So be it. You are sentenced to an eternity in the flames of hell. What a fool, boasting in her sin, even boasting of her child sacrifice to Satan, the god of selfishness.

Sheril ,   Columbus, OH   (12.27.07)
I have something to say to it. Many people have problems that may lead to that level of thinking. Such absolutely does not justify that one should begin to recommend sin as a solution. Remember Job amongst the many other lessons He has provided.
45. What Sometimes Happens to Unwanted Babies AFTER Birth
M. Martin ,   NYC/Tel-Aviv   (12.27.07)
Here in New York (and I'm sure other places),sometimes, when a baby is unwanted but the woman does not, for whatever reason, does not have an abortion, sometimes the newborn baby ends up IN THE GARBAGE. That's right, IN THE GARBAGE, b'ashpa, b'zevel - ready to be hauled off to the local garbage dump. For example, not even a week ago, a couple of teenage boys were skateboarding by and heard a baby crying. They followed the sound and found a newborn baby just a few hours old in a brown paper bag in a DUMPSTER - and on the coldest day so far this winter (about 15 or 20 degrees farenheit, about -10 to -5 Centigrade, after the windchill). They took the baby to the hospital where she ended up doing fine but we must recognize the fact that the mother or a newborn baby left her child in the freezing cold in a dumpster because she wanted it to DIE. She didn't want it to come back in 18 years asking questions. She probably never wanted to be pregnant, didn't want to raise the kid, and didn't want to put the kid up for adoption - she wanted to take her baby and throw it in the GARBAGE. Probably in order to forget that she was ever pregnant in the first place. And this is not the 1st time something like this has happened - and despite laws that allow women to drop off unwanted babies at hospitals and police and fire stations no questions asked exactly to avoid this scenario. An abortion would have been kinder, IMHO. In fact, it's often girls in very conservative families where the pregnancy is a shame that the girl hides being pregnant then throws the baby in the garbage in hopes of her parents never finding out.

47. 38 Lois: Take two omega-3-fatty acid capsules daily to lift
(12.27.07)
your spirits. Love the Lord with all your heart, mind and soul and believe in the coming Jewish Messiah who will deliver the Jewish people when the devil tries to destroy them. That way, you will be healthy and happy in the next life. On your disease, books and doctors' newsletters say it is a scam. Your symptoms and pain are real, but the diagnosis of parasites (trichinosis or trichinella) is being with-held from patients for the medical industry to make money on people suffering from trichinella for decades. Take Nobel Laureate Cellfood from www.nuscience.com a 2cc in a cup of filtered (not distilled) water twice daily until you are in remission which could take months. Deep tissue encapsulated parasites may reinfect you at a later date, so do the therapy to kill the parasites again. Take an acidophillus supplement and an arginine (amino acid) supplement, too. Arginine detoxifies the ammonia dying parasites give off that causes nausea. Vitamin O stabilized liquid oxygen is less expensive than Cellfood and is least expensive at www.rgarden.com . This is the fourth attempt to answer you. The tb censors are being difficult. Hashem will judge them. Rivkah
48. Murder ?
mr ,   israel   (12.30.07)
An unwanted pregnancy should be aborted. There are no consequences - believe me.
49. No moral argument here
Medic, nurse, rabbi   (12.30.07)
I would be very interested to see the statistics Ms. Mishali MUST have used to support her premise of many Orthodox and other women hospitalized due to their collapsing under the pressures of pregnancy and/or motherhood. Such women certainly, and sadly exist; but not in the droves Mishali insinuates. What is more, the halacha and it's authorities do, indeed, take severe psychiatric circumstances to be a potential threat to the mother's life; so Mishali is misleading us! The same is true, btw, for birth control. What is also true is that the Torah definitely teaches us that a life is worth far more than Mishali seems to think. The mother's life and conscience, as well as the baby's, are of great value and holiness. Ultimately, she is really trying to defend abortions whose great need is only that the mother will now be inconvenienced or responsible for her actions. Mishali may possess a notion of murder; but she doesn't seem to think it is of much importance. Mishali seems to suggest that the mother need not decide based on any morality other than her own distress or shame at the time. A morality of convenience is no morality at all.
50. Abortion is a matter of choice
Jane ,   Israel   (12.31.07)
It is all a matter of making correct choices. Why have a sick baby, why have a baby if you cannot raise it ? Having is baby is not enough, it is about being a responsible parent. The child does not surive on air. It needs love and money both equally so...
