It seems that what most of those who oppose a mediocre soy-cheese burger call 'true' kosher food is really Eastern European cuisine. We didn't invent borsht, kugel, babka, kreplach or cholent. These were peasant foods eaten by the gentile natives. If one examines Sephardic and Mizrahi cuisine they are radically different - and quite a bit healthier as well. If someone is eating 'kosher' pizza, chinese food, indian food, etc it's no different then a soy-cheese burger. Well-- it is in one respect for sure- it tastes a whole lot better. Soy cheese is awful.

Over and over again people are expressing the criticism that the article is flawed, usually through the most desperate means at their disposal. The method of pilpul hevel comes to mind. The main thrust of the article is that we are obsessed with discussing minor issues as if they were essential. And yet, all of those who nit-pick the article proove this very fact by attempting to find flaws where none exist. There are very big issues that we need to address as a people in order to engage life as Jews in the fullest sense; worrying about whether we should eat legumes while the issue of the Temple is left for who knows what, is not only a sign of the times, it is to put it mildly, ridiculous. the most part is just like any other food, it just depends on what it is. Healthier? No. Plenty of salt and fat and sugars. On the whole it is prohibitively expensive and poor quality especially here in the UK. As for the spiritual aspect of eating poor quality kosher, well I just couldn't comment. And while I'm ranting, hygeine levels in a good many establishments are way down too.
