31. civil law suit against the parents
i propose to file a law suit against the parents that raise there kids jewish and yet deny them from any sort of jewish education tricking them to believe that the israeli army is judaism at its best. they lie to their kids and steal from them the potential that they have as jewish children. maybe we can set up orphanage homes for the ophaned children of these horrible parents inflicting confusion and identity crisis on their own kids! these parents will pay dearly! thieves!
yoni ,   jerusalem   (01.01.08)
32. not an israeli phenomenum
Also in the Diaspora, at least in Brazil, ultra-orthodox groups are paying the equivalent to US$120,00 per month for secular jewish youngsters to attend to their classes, and are thus 'converting' those Jews into fanatical, blind and almost anti-Israel jews.
Dov ,   Brazil   (01.01.08)
33. Oh Goodness me what a sin trying to encourage
Pupils to get in touch with their Jewishness and Traditions. Oh if only the same oppurtunity had been afforded to me. What a winning combination the sweetness of the spiritual with a bit of the physical.
S Judah ,   London   (01.01.08)
34. #32 dov Brasil
You seem to be a fanatical, blind and complete anti-Israel jew (??) or at least an ignorant about Jewish issues in Brasil and elsewhere ,what seems to be more the case. Shame on you!Shame on you!Shame on you! May you be spared of Jewish people,in case you belong to us,and I guess you do not. You must be just one more antisemit around.Shame on you-did I tell you already?
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (01.01.08)
35. The mothers taking part in the various multi level
business scams, and attending their seminars and evenings and paying LOADS of money, should know that their money funds the mormons and other jews for jesus missionaries. I got out, fortunately, but not before giving them lots of money. Their smooth talking b s is the REAL danger, you stupid morons.
Herb and Nik ,   all of Israel   (01.01.08)
36. Joseph P., Jerusalem
Yes, I am deeply embarrassed that people like you and gabriela call other Jews, Nazis. And don't tell me that I am not a Jew, because you wrongly assume that I hate myself or hate you. Even though you disgust me, I don't hate you. The Nazis wouldn't have made that distinction and would have murdered both of us. By calling other Jews, Nazis, you and gabriela have sunk to even greater depths of hatred towards other human beings.
Michael ,   Haifa   (01.01.08)
37. #32-dov Brasil,you are indeed an idiot!
What do you expect from Jews?Do you expect them to be the same antisemitic as you are? Shame on you! I am acquainted with these "ultra ortodox" Jews you mention, and I can tell you: they love their people and they love Israel. You are a shame! Jews suffer because stinks like you!
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (01.01.08)
38. As if Meretz doesn't fund bus trips etc..
It is only considered a bribe if you don't like the politics.

39. Where is the money coming from?
Arkady Gaydamak.

40. The Wrong Definition of "Bribery"
Bribery is the money Ynet pays Tamar Trabelsi-Hadad to write his anti-religious boilerplate.

41. 18# Michael (Abu Steiner??) Haifa
Actually I could not use other term, see? , when I read about "jews" persecuting religious ones to the point of banning them to pray at school recess, family memoirs from the WWII flashed in an instant. This man who was only 15 years old then, working as a slave in a forced labour factory, somewhere in Europe, had to do Mincha hiding in some tiny undergourng aisle... And nothing else like it comes to mind as a parallel -except to israeli secular's rabid hate for judaism and cohersion as the one I read noe in this article. I feel sorry you never grow up and never show any sign of maturity either. Sorry to dissapoint but secular Jews can act as bad and forbid none else than a fellow Jew to pray, as we read now.
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (01.01.08)
42. "Religious Terrorism"
I think Mira Shannon should go to Sderot and walk around in order to get a clue what real "religious terrorism" is. A couple of years ago I would have suggested that she go ride the downtown Jerusalem bus or maybe eat at an ice cream shop.
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (01.01.08)
43. Manipulation
Approaching minors who are among the poorest and offering them a few shekels that they desperately need in order to entice them into a prayer service doesn't seem very honest. It seems manipulative and opportunistic. It seems to me that if they went to those poor families and invited all of them to a meal at the shul, gave them some kosher food packages, showed true caring and proper tzedakah for the entire family, they'd accomplish their goals a lot more constructively.
Yossi   (01.01.08)
44. Welcome to Pakistan
Israel is, unfortunately, moving in the same direction as Pakistan. The only difference is that Israel does not have the same huge population and large territory. Instead, she has enemies who are just waiting for the Jews to slip into total religious ignorance and are actively learning physics and maths in the meanwhile.
Julia ,   London, UK   (01.01.08)
45. Missionaries and Bad Journalism
Yet another Ynet unprofessional anti-religious rant. The telltale signs of bad journalism are there. 1. No attempt seems to have been made to speak to the "missionaries" or their proselytes. 2. No direct contact with the anonymous single parent. Does she have a name? Does she exist? If a source asks for their name to be withheld, a good journalist says so. A recent study by the Israel Democracy Institute shows that Israeli society is becoming increasingly religious. http://www.idi.org.il/english/article.asp?id=22112007112505 This Ynet article merely potrays part of that process in a biased manner.

46. #44 And WHO created physics and maths?
Meanwhile "they" study physics and maths,we study not only physics and maths, but ITS Creator.
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (01.01.08)
47. Coercion?
18 shekels are 2 cokes...does anyone think a kid will go to aTorah lesson because of the money?? Perhaps, the kids really want to know about their shorashim...there is no coercion. In my teen years my conservative shul gave us a bracelet if we went to 5 Shabbat services!!!
joan ,   ramat aviv   (01.01.08)
48. I think it's much more embarrassing
to read posts FROM JEWS who HATE their Jewish brothers. BTW, you read and understand the way "you" want it, although it wasn't written this way. Nobody "called" a Jew Nazi, just "compared" the system to Nazis. There's nothing wrong with that. "Even though you disgust me, I don't hate you." That's exactly how I and all religious Jews feel about the non-religious, although you and other irreligious Jews have this inferior complex that you are hated by religious. To prove it, YOU WOULD NEVER FIND ARTICLES AGAINST SECULAR JEWS IN CHAREIDI NEWSPAPERS like Yated or Hamodia. But the secular Jewish media is full of slander and hate against religious Jews, especially chareidim. And don't tell me it's not so, because it's all over the place.
Joseph P. ,   Jerusalem   (01.01.08)
49. #43 And giving a free performance isn't manipulation?
For the Rabin memorial they provide free buses, and give a free rock concert to boost attendance. That isn't bribery and manipulation?
Ilan ,   Ariel   (01.01.08)
50. Good news
I wish them the greatest of success. How much better our country would be if our young people would learn Torah. It is the Torah and only the Torah that has preserved us through all the years of exile. Without the Torah, the concept of Jewish is meaningless. It is because of the Torah that we can call ourselves Jews.
Micha Sloman ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.01.08)
51. The same as hamas , hezbollah
they also use financial aid to attract people in their ugly nets . Those defending this practise are the same , or most of them ,who are against the charidi behaviour . No Gaby ? If parents want that their children receive a religious education , they send them to State run religious schools . Have those charidi "rabbis" not enough with their own poor people in bne berak , those need help . What they are doing is breaking up families . They are working in the same way some christian missionaries do . They also try to attract poor people in their even more ugly nets . So people , the next time charidim come schnorren at your door , one more reasonto send them away without anything . Sad ,sad people they are

52. True shame to Jews and Israel is people like you
Mike ,   Israel   (01.01.08)
53. #49
Yes, it is manipulative, but that's irrelevant. One form of manipulation does not excuse another. No one has a right to take minor children to any sort of religious service without prior parental knowledge and permission. Similarly, no one should take them to a rock concert without same informed consent.
Yossi   (01.01.08)
54. They have to bribe??? Why???
Of course! The kids aren't interested in hearing weird interpretation and untruth. Kids today want truth. Kids want to know what GOD says, not the incestuous teachings of talmudic rabbis.
(01.01.08)
55. Jossele P
Of course you will not find articles against seculars in your papers , seculars are not bribing charidim to become normal irreligious sane persons , or at least normal , non charidi Dati Leumi , who serve their Nation , who don't live on others work , who are not supporting a governement against much money as the charidi do . So if there is nothing to blame , they can't write anything . But Yossele P , are you sure that they don't write against the seculars ? i'm not so . Gai im chaider man kind , di mist noch dem א ב lernen , in fargess dan appele und titulim nischt . Dos zelbe gelt auch far Elchonon .
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.01.08)
56. Joan , for some 18 sh is important !
it's also 3 breads ! And 18 shekel 2 or three times a week is a nice pocket money for many , or a bus "kartissia" . Not of course for inhabitants of Ramat Aviv , for them it's only 2 cokes .
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.01.08)
57. Children and teachers need love
from G-d and this can be achieved through Torah...too bad that is not what they are learning at 15 shekels a day. I would rejoice for this if it was in fact Torah that the rabbis were teaching. I would say the harry Krisha probably make up laws just like the rabbis do. Would we let harry krishnas pay our children to take lessons? Back to real Torah the way it was written. Rabbis, please teach the true Torah. Listen and fear what the prophets say about those who do not tend to G-d's sheep in the manner that is required. All Israel's sheep including the fallen Jews (Christians). You should be paying the teachers to come based on their salaries and what I saw in the comments. By the way what exactly is "religious terrosim". Is it getting people to abandon Torah and be secular so that they can be fearful when their neighborhoods co to the dogs? "Who can give back last night". Television? Or is it someone who polutes Torah to the point that people can't embrace what Hashem really said and they become fearful in the night because G-d is no longer with them? "Who can give back last night." Rabbis? Because clearly if we did the real Torah the blessings would be on us, our enemies would be defeated and the lion would lay down with the lamb. Because only G-d can give back peace. "For there shall be no peace except that the hand of G-d delivers it."
Josh   (01.02.08)
58. Keeping the Young In
Not only will inviting the parents and children to the shul be more honest and help them together, it will also help those in the neighborhood strengthen their communities. This is important to helping deal with issues facing a community at large. Also, I believe that there should be an optional program available for those students where could attend classes dealing with Torah and Judaism. It should be done in a way that presents the topic to appeal to Jews of different streams. Giving money to students to take these courses doesn't strengthen their ties to Jewish culture or traditions. The support , caring and feeling of belonging to the Jewish people are what will keep the young in. There is no price to the teaching of the young to be Jewish. The young have to want and agree to it.

59. #55 Charles
Show me ONE article where the Hamodia or Yated newspapers besmirched secular Jews like the secular media do to chareidim. And after digging and digging through hundreds of newspapers you will not find any slander and hate towards secular Jews, will you FINALLY ADMIT that religious Jews are the true elite and more refined with moral values and class than the irreligious?
Joseph P. ,   Jerusalem   (01.02.08)
60. Prayer for sale and other religious shtilkluch
The evil of the religious knows no bounds. They pay people to pray and protect killers (remember the Ramoth Beth Shemesh woman whose body they wouldn't let be checked when at 40 years she was found dead?), the pedophile in Yafo? How many relgious members of the Knesset have gone to jail? Where are the 10 commandments? How many of them do they trangress while wrapping themselves in tzitzis? Sodom & Gommorah has come to Israel and they wear kippot and sheitels. Shame on them, they have brought shame to Judaism.
