Israel’s quiet war    Fred Schlomka
1. "We Jews, we, the destroyers..."
"In everything, we are destroyers--even in the instruments of destruction to which we turn for relief... We Jews, we, the destroyers, will remain the destroyers for ever. Nothing that you will do will meet our needs and demands." - Maurice Samuel, You Gentiles pages 152, 155, and 147.

2. Bedoin Land? the whole ideology
and way of life of bedoins is that THEY DONT HAVE LAND-they r nomads and travel-that means they dont settle and dont stay in one place. Meaning they r not intitled to any land. why dont u do research before writing another miss representation.

4. Not bedouin Land, Illegaly taken
by building house without permit, then claiming its THEIR land. why does jew that respect the law have to be the FREYER of man like shlomka and his abject one sided Committee Against House Demolitions? its a comitee for the demolitions of the jewish state of israel.

5. Anti-Israeli propaganda from a leftist
The Bedouin are subject to the rule of law just like everyone else. In fact they are responsible for a massive crime wave and illegal construction. Such nonsense calling them "indigenous" and "palastinians" they are Arabs indigenous to Arabia, that they have wandered the deserts of Israel, as well as Sinai, Jordan and Arabia, does not grant them ownership of the lands. The autor, Fred Schlomka is a member of a radical leftist organization that seeks to vilify Israel.

6. YOU ARE SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY
This is the Land of Israel for Jews. If you don't like it go to live in Syria, Egypt, Lebanon or Jordan. Wot? They don't want you? They all have sent in multiple wives for these Beduins to populate our land, with a purpose of getting rid of us. Show some pride and shut up whilst we live in our own country: wherever we want.

why jews write against jews??

9. never happened to jews?
"Such measures would never be taken against Jewish citizens of Israel" that's very interesting, we seem to have let the evacuation of gush katif slip from our minds. and why should they have rights for "the “unrecognized” villages", when that is exactly why people fault the yishuvim? i am in no way unsympathetic, and i think this is a very valid issue to be addressed, but only if the street runs both ways...

10. Compensate, but they can't stop development
This of course is a very one sided descriptionof the situation. It doesn't mention the illegal nature of many Bedouin settlements built by a once wandering people who recently have decide to settle down where ever it suits them. Their population has increased 10 fold, unprecendented in surrounding countries, due to the low baby mortality seen in Israel's Health system. Only in Israel as opposed to most other places in the Middle East, were the Bedouin given the opportunity to register their land. It is right therefore that Israel acknowledge that right they gave, and compensate and rehouse the Bedouin for the compulsory purchase of their land. But Israel is a tiny country and the Bedouin cannot retain the right to almost the entire Negev desert, a huge percentage of the land area of Israel, and single handedly prevent development. http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Society_&_Culture/Bedouin.html

14. A struggle against the desert, not against people
At a time when politically correct ecologists worldwide complain about growing desertification, the same politically correct bunch slams the Jews for fighting against the desert. Should the american Middle West be turned again to buffalo grazing plains, so that the Sioux tribe might retain its politically correct hunters' way of life?

15. how about sending them to jordan, along with ALL their bros
the only sentence in the article to read is Fred Schlomka is an Israeli businessman and a board member of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD). He is a 2003 Fellow of the Echoing Green Foundation and the founder of Mosaic Communities in Israel. this alone shows his agenda

16. Ceterum censeo ...
By the way, I am of the opinion that the Zionist ideology and all its consequences must finally be investigated openly and seriously, i.e. without blinkers of any kind.

17. To number 2: These are the bedouins from whom
Herod the Great emerged... These are the descendents of Idumites, Nabateans and else.... In the bedouin world, families are known and their origins are well kept... These are Palestinians with all what this word mean...... The bedouins of Sham (Levant) are different from those of inner Arabia, etc... The concept of a bedouin being a nomad is partially true... Some keep moving, while others settle in villages just like has been the case for centuries... In Arabia and in the levant! Did not the bedouins build Petra?? Anyway... I though I should tell you this cause you appear to see in black and white.
Palestinian ,   Jerusalem   (01.06.08)
18. Johann, God bless you
You are courageous... If we are all to live in peace in this land, then we should stop bigotry and racism... Zionism is racism, and also we Palestinians we have to know better the other... After all, we are all humans, we all make mistakes, but we should be all forgiving too...
Palestinian ,   Jerusalem   (01.06.08)
19. To David in Houston...!
The berdouins are indigenous to Arabia... Correct... Guess what, Palestine and its deserts are part of Arabia you are talking about... In fact, the Greeks when referring to Arabia, they included the Syrian desert in Arabia.... Do not forget the Nabateans and Idumians are also Arabian bedouins... Do not forget that Canaanites are also Arabians.... Arabain tribes have been present in the Levant since 2500 BC.. Historians generally agree that the ancient Semitic peoples (Assyrians, Aramaeans, Canaanites (including the Phoenicians and Hebrews) and, later, the Arabs themselves) migrated into the area of the Fertile Crescent. Arab invasions came after successive crises of overpopulation in the Arabian Peninsula beginning in the third millennium BC and ending with the Muslim conquests of the 7th century AD. These peoples spoke languages based on similar linguistic structures, and the modern Semitic languages of Arabic, Hebrew, and Amharic (the language of Ethiopia) maintain important similarities. http://palestinefacts.org/pf_early_palestine_first_arabs.php

20. NOt Bedoin Land - everything in Israel is Israel
andrew ,   miami,fl   (01.06.08)
21. from the author
I was pleased to see so many talkback comments and would like to answer a few of them. Regarding the comparison of the Negev Bedouin with the former residents of Gush Kativ. If the Bedouin were fairly compensated for their property, as were the former Gaza residents, and provided adequate relocation assistance, as were the Gaza residents, then perhaps this would be less of an issue. Some people seem to think that the Bedouin are recent additions to the Negev. The fact is that all of today's Bedouin are descended from families who managed to stay in the country when the state of Israel was created. Most of the Negev Bedouin have been largely settled for a long time. many have title deeds to their land dating from the Ottoman Era, honored by the British mandate, and initially endorsed by the Israeli government (until they needed the land). The Bedouin are also Israeli citizens. So while some might think that non-Jewish citizens should not have the same rights as the rest of us, I disagree. We might as well stop pretending we are a democracy if only Jewish citizens have rights. "My agenda" was mentioned by one poster. Well I do have an agenda, to advocate for the rights of all of us who live in this land, Jews and non-Jews alike.

22. t # 15 and all other racists
"how about sending them to jordan, along with ALL their bros" No, another solution is to move all Jews to their various countries from which they came. There is no such thing as a Jewish nation. It was invented by Herzl. Think about it. If my version of your words sounds racist, don`t you think that your version also sounds racist? THEY BOTH ARE!!!!!!
Futura ,   Sweden   (01.06.08)
23. #22 WRONG!!! JEWISH PEOPLE THERE 3000 yrs Ago
The land of Israel categorically belongs to the Jewish people.Israel had already become a nation about 1220 B.c.-nearly two thousand years before the first Arab invasion began. The Jews' persistent presence on the land survived periodic attempts to extinguish them throughout their history. Herzl DID NOT create Israel.

26. Fred - # 21 from the author
Did the author ( Fred #21) not have his say already? He wrote the whole article and now he inserts himself back by way of the talkback. He has had more than his fair share of talk already !! Not fair for him to do this. Ness

27. # 23, 24, 25 LOL!!!
Just what to expect! Racists do not think. Jelle in Holland: "This is the history of new countries. Friesland is taken by Holland, wath's happen with Lapland in Sweden??" Well, did the dutch drove all the earlier inhabitants away from Friesland? Why do you imply (22 countries) to drive the arabs away from WB? Because they are arabs? Samer in what you call Lapland (Samer call it Sapmi) have their own parlament inside Sweden. They are certainly NOT deported from Sapmi or Sweden

28. #27 - Sweden is soon to be Islamised, so what it so funny ?
interesting that you spend your time here, instead of worrying about Sweden which is right up there with Holland, Belgium, Norway and Switzerland on the endangered species list. Mike

29. Thank you, Fred
Thank you for drawing attention to this travesty and for provoking talk-backers to reveal their true racist colors. It's easier to deal with a problem when its out in the open. And the problem here is that we Israelis have become so self-absorbed dealing with the threats against us, that we've completely forgotten how we wish to behave to our own minority citizens. Not so long ago the Bedouin were considered our friends and allies - loyal to the state and to the people. Our bumbling and discriminatory dealings with them have thrown them into the hands of Palestinian nationalists and Islamic extremists - both foreign concepts to Bedouin. If only American Jews new what damage their JNF contributions were doing here.
