1. Kadima machinations
MGS ,   Jerusalem   (01.07.08)
It's clear. Never mind what happens to the country. Nothing is more important than MKs remaining in office.
2. new PM w/o calling elections? how very democratic of them...
aaron ,   ra'anana   (01.07.08)
these Kadima guys are smoking great stuff if they think their party is gonna continue to exist past the next elections - regardless of when they are held.
3. A complete "unilateral withdrawal"...
Mark Kleiman ,   Florida, USA   (01.07.08)
of the backward Kadima from government is needed NOW, so Israel can truly move forward :)
4. Kadimas policies are a failure.......Elections now!
Freejay ,   Israel   (01.07.08)
5. Olmert & Kadima must go.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.07.08)
Livni as PM? You're kidding. She's even less competant than Olmert. The "Kadima faction" is afraid of elections - they want to get rid of Olmert because he is a political leper but without losing their jobs. They could care less what voters want which is immediate elections. They would make Bozo the Clown PM if they could keep their jobs. When I think of it, Bozo would be an appropriate choice - very symbolic of what our political system has become. Maybe the entire Knesset should dress in clown suits, it represents what most people think of them.
6. Who would be able to lead?
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (01.07.08)
Even if there are new elections the top candidates will be implicated at least as bad, if not worse, than Olmert. How can there be elections with Bibi and Barak needing to fight for their own jobs once their failures are pointed out to the public? Prediction: Look for political stability for the at least 3 months post report as each party figures out how to survive. Then there may be efforts towards changes in the summer.
7. Elections Now!!
Esther ,   Ofarim, Israel   (01.07.08)
This Kadima farce has gone on long enough. Kadima!! Out of the government!
8. FIIIIIIINAAAALLLYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
(01.07.08)
GET HIM OUT ALREADY!!!! BIBI OR GILERMAN FOR PM!!!
9. #2 What's so surprising? Was Olmert ever elected
Joseph P. ,   Jerusalem   (01.07.08)
"democratically" or did he just temporarily replace Sharon? And since when is Israel a democratic country? Unless you want to compare it to its Arab neighboring countries, then you can say Israel is more democratic than they are, but certainly not an American style of democracy. Can YOU prove that Israel is a Democracy? A prime minister who was NOT ELECTED BY THE MAJORITY of the people and does whatever he wants, is democracy? Olmert was never elected personally. Is this democracy? His party had a few more votes than the others (30%) thus they got the control. But there was never a majority of the country who wanted him. Is this democracy? A self-elected corrupt High Court is democracy? A government who doesn't give a hoot about the opinion of most of its citizens is democracy? Yes, a majority of Israel is against his giving away territory. If you claim that he was elected by the majority, read the above paragraph again. It's only because of the coalition that he's in power and not because of any majority. The majority want to see him go. THERE WAS NO AND IS NO DEMOCRACY IN ISRAEL. Go sell your democracy babkess to some fool but not to sane people.
10. According to posters all over Jerusalem,
Joseph P. ,   Jerusalem   (01.07.08)
it's not that certain that Olmert will be able to pull it through till the end of January.

Stop teasing us. Time for him to step down long passed. Go already.
14. the kadima party dont belive in democracy anymore than olmer
zionist forever   (01.07.08)
Olmerts a bafoon but without his party backing him all the way which they have been then would have gone to ellectilons long ago. Now Kadima are trying to throw all the failings onto Olmert. Livni is worse than Olmert she likes to act tough at times to put accross the image that she would be a strong PM that defends Israelis interests but once she is in the driving seat she will take the country to the same disaster as Olmert is doing now. The only reason Kadima are AFRAID of democracy and letting the voters decide who they want to have as PM is because they know the party is not going to survive the next ellection it willl fade into history the same way that Shiniui did at the last ellection & unless he gets Olmerts job now he will go running back to Likud if they will take him and hope all will be forgiven. The Kadima that all these people ooriginaly defected to when Sharon was in charge is a totaly different Kadima to the one Olmert runs and not what the voters originaly thought they were getting. If Kadima belive in their policies and believe in democracy more than Olmert does they will choose their neww leader and then go to the country and let the people ellect the next governmnet and if they belive that Kadima under new leadership has somethng to offer then they will vote to bring them back if not then its obvious the people dont think that Kadima is the way forward and they will vote for the party they have most confidence in.
15. olmert to resign under pressure
geroge   (01.07.08)
Olmert will be forced to resign by a massive israeli push. Kadima, contrary to Livni who seems to be daydreaming since she works under olmert, will be almost wiped out in the next elections. Israelis do not want to be led an appeaser and a supporting cast who are in fear of an appeaser. Maybe the public is wrong, but olmert appeared to be a grovelling coward who did not defend israel.Israeli deterrence and pride took a hit. Even Barak who was doing better at defense appeared to be swallowed up by Olmert. One group that will be sad is Haaretz and their writers who have been propping up Olmert all this time while he was loathed by Israelis. They feel that they have the answers. One doesn't make peace with a crooked lying adversary and that is the fatal flaw in Haaretz's support of Olmert. This will be a stain on some of the good people at Haaretz for some time to come.
16. Only Person worthy of Prime Minister
jerry diamond ,   Toronto Canada   (01.07.08)
UZI LANDAU There is no better person to be prime minister of this country and I don't care what party he represents.
17. Olmert is planning a DISCREET GIFT TO President BUSH
Joseph P. ,   Jerusalem   (01.07.08)
to make Jerusalem the capital of the Palestinian State. This, according to several newspapers. No wonder Jews in Israel want to oust him quickly before Bush comes.
18. good forces
fofo egypt   (01.07.08)
livni and mofaz good forces?? the political oppertunists are good forces it is a shame livni who said that she want to replace her ally olmert and mofaz who left the likud to join the corrupt sharon party elections now
19. olmert might be forced out of office ?
yahn goodey   (01.07.08)
no doubt that is the only way he will leave because he has no intentions of stepping down voluntarily----i dont even think he plans to leave office even if he lasted till the next elections----if he can swing it we are stuck with him as our dictator till death do us part.
20. issie
olmert to resign   (01.07.08)
Finally as kadima hears the noise of israelis and winograd soon coming, they finally have the guts to sound off about replacing olmert. For 2 years, they foisted this weakling and sellout on the israeli public. they should be ashamed of themselves. There has to be a courage test, check into the background of the candidate, if he cries too much at losses, somehting to prevent another coward from ever taking office again. As Olmert resigns, throw out Ramon, a rotten politician and an olmert sycophant. As far as Livni is concerned, she has to be tougher and that's starts today. All those who went along with Olmert's war decisions should be thrown out of the government.Mofaz should have done more and he didn't. Barak started this concession business in camp david and he had better wake up and stop indulging in stupid fantasies. There will never be peace with the arabs as they are an animal society. Only truces can be of value. If you are worried about demographics, speak to Elon who has some answers to your questions.

The current political system is a joke. It creates weak undemocratic government where political loyaty is to the party because the people who get put forward as Knesset candidates are based on a party list and the ones that are at the top of that list get the jobs and the higher up you are on the list depends on how much you suck up to the boss. We need a system simmilar to sometihng they have in the UK or US where the party with the most seats forms the government and the candidates are ellected in 120 regional constituancies and if the candidates want to get ellected and stay ellected they need to stand up for the interests of the people who ellected them. If we had a system like this there would have been real action taken in Sderot long ago because the MKS who represent the Sderot region would know if they want to keep their job they need to stand up to the leadership and fight for the interests of the people who ellected him not simply tell Olmert what a clever man he is who has such good policieis wo next time round he will stay high on the party list. The stupid idea where its impossible to form a government without a coalition also creates unstable undemocratic government, there is no other country in the world that uses this farce of a political system. If Israel wants to be a western democracy competing in the 21st century it needs a 21st century political system not something dreamed up 60 years ago its time for a little political evolution in Israel and bring thiing up to date. There should also be a maximum amount of time that somebody can serve as PM because we get the same men serving for decades, if he hadnt been given the presidents job Peres would be out there hoping to run for PM again even though the man is in his 80s We also need a constitution this should be drawn up by indipendent experts and have no input from politicians and the people should in advance be allowed to put forward proposals of things they would like to see in the consitution. Of course these proposals would not be law but some might be accepted some might be rejected give the people drawing up the constiution an idea of what the Israeli majority wants the country to do for them. This is the only way we will get new blood and new thinking into Israeli politics and get rid of the same old faces running the country.

Rabbi Meir Kahane was right and we need someone like him to lead the Israeli government
23. Olmert might resign
michael mazur ,   brunswick australia   (01.09.08)
Look, you guys have psycho Dubya, Dubya 3 (he's there now with you) to kick off soon the obliteration of 28,000,000 people of Iran, which means that you are not going to change Prime Ministers midstream on the way to WW3. I focus back to `people of Iran` who are people just like you and me - believe me, and i am not a jew , as i wouldn't want to be so accursed with what you have done to hundreds of millions of humanity. Were i to have instead said `Iranians`, well, they are just cardboard cut outs to be incinerated by US shabas goys' nukes, thanks to you guys lying about what Pres. Ahmadinejad actually did say. Knowing all this and if i were a jew i would not be able to sleep at night. But you, apparently, do. So, you either be reformable away from your benighted religion (all religion is benighted) or we all die, not just us `silly `goys. Personally i believe you to be for WW3 but your Stone Age hubris blinds you to the full implications, that is, you too are dead.
