1. Viva frozen peace
Egyptian   (01.16.08)
Actually Tehran is trying hard to restore relation with Egypt and Egypt keeps delaying. Egypt is worried about Hamas more than Israel; they are branch of the Islamic brotherhood in Egypt which is the main headache to the Egyptian government. Most of the Egyptians don’t want war with anybody and the Arab leadership is not a live anymore. Simply we cannot control the boarder 100% you couldn’t do it also. The economic ties including the 30 years gas deal are more important to both countries. Viva frozen peace
2. Kol Hakavod Zalman for saying it!!! Shame that too few stood
Judith, Haifa   (01.16.08)
up for the FM of Israel. Israel should not behave as if it were a non-entity. We are a strong important country in the world and we contribute tons in contrast to our size and no. of citizens. Egyptians should be carefull not to lose the last bit of relations they have with this important country. Mubarak may think that size matters, however, I think little Israel has proved him wrong in the past. His rantings & ravings about the Israeli FM were totally out of line and belong to a Middle Ages country leader. If Egypt wants to step out of it, they should behave accordingly. Whatever critisizm we may have, we don't go telling specific officials to shut up and do only what they understand. Livni didn't target a specific person, but made a general comment. Livni, by the way, understands way more than Mubarak ever will. He's stuck in an ancient mind set, whereas, Livni is a first world human being. Mubarak allowed himself to speak in a derogatory fashion only because Livni is a woman. Shame on him! Can anyone imagine what would have happened had Livni told their FM to shut up? Livni, being the dignified and sane person she is, chose to ignore these third-world male's provocations. Good for her, she is above all that ancient nonsense.
3. "typical Egyptian clumsiness"?
Reality   (01.16.08)
And what about legendary Israeli clumsiness?! The pilgrimage to Mecca is a very sensitive matter for all Muslims and Arabs. How would you want that any Arab or Muslim government could forbid Palestinian pilgrims to come back to their home???? It would be seen by Muslims and Arabs as a new Naqba and the government taking such action would immediately delegitimate itself. Hamas or not Hamas has nothing to do with that. Are Israelis so dumb that they don't see that obvious reality?!
4. When was Egypt a friend to Israel? NEVER
Petra ,   usa   (01.16.08)
may another 10 plagues visit them soon.
5. #1 Egypt should support Israel
Petra ,   usa   (01.16.08)
she would fear the Islamic brotherhood less with real experts in the matter of security and survival. Donchathink?
6. # 3 You should know that the PM of Australia John Howard
Petra ,   usa   (01.16.08)
asked the Muslims to either accept Australias laws and rights or go home( he never mentioned them making a stopover in Mecca) Face it, no one wants Islamic radicals anywhere. They did this all by themselves by leaving their bigoted confines. and trying to impose their will on others. Everyone knows that a political party posing as a relgion is a farce. He's starting a popular trend.
7. #2 Judith, the feminist

there is a difference; his wife can get divorce from him, but yours can not get divorce from her husband. His wife has already what you aspire to.
8. #4 they already have had the other10
(01.16.08)
but they survived all the Israeli aggressions.
9. #5 Egypt is supporting Israel
(01.16.08)
without Egypt's support of the lower pole of Israel, it would have fallen apart.
10. Israeli short-sightedness...
Ari ,   USA   (01.17.08)
Reality is: Livni was rude and did cross the line. The Egyptians could not stand Israel's repeated intimidations and had to react. Israelis fail to appreciate how valuable, even a very cold peace, with Egypt is. This unfortunately is a low point in Israel's history, especially after the disgrace in Lebanon. With the current weak government and military, Israelis are better off laying low and letting the US deal with Egypt... there are more immediate threats (Iran, Hamas, Hizbullah, Syria) to deal with...
11. Israeli blindness?
Ahmed ,   Egypt   (01.17.08)
We find it very intriguing in Egypt how Israelis appear to be so short-sighted and detached from reality. Don't you guys realize how much an asset the current Egyptian government is for you? You keep bitching about it... so you're not happy with them? How about, say, a real "democratic" government in Egypt along the lines of what happened in Gaza?? hmmm... I wonder how you would feel then! The day might come when you wish Mubarak had stayed forever... You are so self-focused and always fail to look beyond your own feet! typical Israeli...
12. what does ISRAEL want???
Dave ,   USA   (01.17.08)
I don't understand. We provoke them and then we bitch and moan because they couldn't restrain themselves for once and decided to react?? Egypt is trying to build its economy (I've been watching, they're actually doing pretty well) while we Jews ignore the threats from Iran and Hizbullah and are trying to pick a fight with Egypt?? what are Israelis smoking?
13. hello? any brains left in there?
Egyptian   (01.17.08)
Ok... do you want us to prevent the pilgrims from returning back home, right? interesting... let's say we do that. what happens then? are you so dumb you don't realize what repurcussions this could have an Egypt's political scene? ... and eventually on Israel? No need to explain. You Israelis can't think more than one step ahead so this discussion is pointless anyways!!
14. one brain standing...
Tarek ,   Egypt   (01.17.08)
Hey Zalman, good article dude... glad to know there are still few Israelis left who are able to rationalize things and look at the big picture. Just one comment and advice: what Mubarak does is, most of the time, well-intended and calculated, not clumsy. The big old man actually still has some brains. Your government is weak... so what better time to show that he's got balls???
15. #6 that's why PM John Howard kicked out covering-meat Shiekh
Israeli Jew   (01.17.08)
look at our beautiful rules of Talmud; those instruct us to uncover the meat: Hadarine, 20, B; Schulchan 9ruch, Choszen Hamiszpat 348. "A Jew may do to a non-Jewess what he can do. He may treat her as he treats a piece of meat." John Howard must support Australia's laws, which by the way are mainly derived from our Talmud: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=zaWn-ZBDpNg
