Both know attacking each other does not solve their problems. Iran knows attacking Israel will make it the target of military attacks by the US. Israel on the other hand has no wish to become a suicide bomber by attacking Iran. Israel has tried to cajole the US to attack Iran and has failed miserably. People keep going on about Israel's failure in Lebanon but you forget that this wasn't a war against a nation, against a real army, it was against pathetic cowardly hezbollah who hid in civillian houses. It wasn't a real war, it was basically one side firing rockets blindly into civilian areas while the other was painstakingly trying to pick out the millitants from their hidy holes within civilin areas. The whole world knows this apart from Iran. It would be a different story against Iran as the Iranian army would be separate from the civillians in their tanks and planes so would be a fairer fight.

Between 25,000 to 500,000 civilians killed by Iranian backed Shia militia in Iraq. Also Iran executes it's own civilians on a regular basis. Palestinian "civilian" deaths are no more than 2000 over 7 and half years - Israels are around 800 - and the "civilians" in Lebanon would be between 300 to 600 once you strip out the Hizbollah "civilians" from the usually quoted figures. It is wonderful that Iran and Egypt might reestablish diplomatic relations. It makes no sense for two of the most important nations in that area to be opposed to each other. Both of these nations are seats of great empires in antiquity. They should be friends.
