Arabs battle for citizenship; State unyielding     Tani Goldstein
1. Let all Pals into Israel and they will ALL even singHatikvah
Alan ,   SA   (01.28.08)
2. Al-Deik should stay. Tibi should be thrown out
Al-Deik seems to be a good man. Tibi is a terror-supporter against the state he purportedly serves.
Mamalama ,   Israel   (01.28.08)
3. Arabs battle for citizenship? WHAT?
Wait! I thought that Israel is a HORRIBLE, RACIST country. So, why do so many Arabs want to live in it? why do they need a citizenship of an "Apartheid" regime? this is a contradiction in terms...or does this mean that Israel is the ONLY country worth living in in the middle east? Ha? Go back to Gaza !!!
Shira   (01.28.08)
4. if its true its wrong
If the story is as true as the man has described and there is not more to it then its wrong In cases of imigrants marrying Israelis they should be married a minimum of 5-10 years before there can be any question of citizenship for the imigrant either arab or economic imigrant who comes for a job then decided they want the better life so a marrage of convenience is arranged for them so they get the passport then part company. Its bad for the economy when unwated imigrants end up with full citizenship & when Israeli arabs marry palestians it allows them to be sympathetic marry their arab brother to get them citizenship for a better life or in cases to increase the fith colum within Israel try an increase the arab demographics.

5. When
Ynet, when do you stand up for "orthodox" converts' rigt to stay? Hm? It's NOT about paying your mortgage or not. It's about being JEEEEWIIIIISH!
Andras Bereny ,   Kfar Tapuah, Samaria   (01.28.08)
6. All I have to ask of this man is. If you
are a loyal citizen, have you made any attempt to do any national service? Have you made any attempts to aid the Israeli defense forces in ANY way? I don't care what anybody says, truly identifying with your country entails protecting it's security even if it may go against something you believe. If you can't, or won't do that, your just another opportunist and as such need to be deported back to where you came from.
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (01.28.08)

8. Propagandistic BS...
Propagandistic BS, but else would you expect from an activist lawyer? Farij fails to provide a complete picture regarding al-Deik's 'struggle' for citizenship, such as providing evidence that al-Deik ever, at one point during his first marriage, applied for Israeli citizenship. Farij also fails to provide evidence of al-Deik ever seeking Israeli citizenship before Israeli authorities found out that his presence in Israel was indeed illegal. Instead of providing a compelling legal argument for al-Deik acquiring citizenship, he fills in the gap left in the legal case by boosting al-Deik's personal character as a means of appealing to emotion: a logical fallacy that has no bearing on al-Deik's legal status in Israel. For Israel to grant him citizenship based solely upon character (a form of amnesty), which is what Farij is aiming for, Israel would be creating a legal groundwork for millions of Arabs currently residing outside of Israel and with non-Israeli citizenship to acquire citizenship through a newly-created legal back door. Farij, with al-Deik as his pawn, is asking Israel to commit national suicide. Let's hope the High Court is able to see through this charade...
Joe ,   Los Angeles, CA   (01.28.08)
9. HMMM
Apparently he would like voting rights.
JB ,   USA   (01.28.08)
10. Al-Deik should stay
he seems harmless enough probablly a nice guy.On the other hand Olmert is a danger to ISRAEL deport OLMERT let Al-Deik stay
Rod ,   Fargo N.Dakota   (01.28.08)
11. Even if this is 100% true...
nothing can be done. If al-Deil loves Israel so much, he should understand that even if his personal case has merits, because of the violence of other Arabs, he understands why Israel cannot establish such a precedent for citizenship. He understands that Arabs' priority of eliminating the Jewish character of Israel, making it more important than their own welfare, makes it impossible for Israel to help his particualr case.
Wendy in Chicago   (01.28.08)
12. What is the point?
I really do not see what is the point of this. In the USA an argentine girl was deported even if she has a daughter and was married; her papers were not in order so she had to leave the US. It was the law. BTW everyone reads what the arabs in Israel have to say about social service, about IDF, about the land...we have all read how arabs leaders went to Gaza to demonstrate agains Israel, how arabs students carried palis flags....does this guy fill israeli? I really do not believe it...at all....
Marcelo ,   Germany   (01.28.08)
13. arabs
Its not that simple, just because hes an arab therefore hes ruled out alltogether. Because he faces a secular judicial system who doesnt know what to do with him. If he were facing a Jewish legal system he might have grounds to claim under Ger Toshav Tzedek, ie a righteous gentile which the Torah "commands" you to respect as living amongst you. I am from the far right as you can go, and support transfer but I respect any arab that genuinely wishes to live with us in peace and make theyre fate the same as ours. I am for deporting the 5th column but not because of anothers religion race or creed but enemies within. I have no expectations that in a just Kingdom of Israel there are no arabs, christians or whatever as long as they are loyal and meet the criteria of ger toshav tzedek. Furthermore I dont advocate that these people ever become full citizens but Permanent Residents with ID, passport and right to vote for local council but not the knesset. This rule exists in many countries all around the world. We Jews are not blanket racists, we respect others but never our enemies unlike our current system and government.
Yisraeli   (01.28.08)
14. He should be given citizenship
He sounds like he is law-abiding and loyal. These decisions should be on a case-by-case basis. In this case, I think he should get citizenship.
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (01.28.08)
15. Hmmm, tough, complex
I dont know the Israeli laws, but I suspect they are not up to the task of certain potential citizens that may fall through the cracks, whether jewish, under Halacha or not, Arabs, or other. How do the court systems handle these more complex cases? I suspect there are hundreds if not more. This is a question of someone already living in Israel. These people should be addressed by the court before ruling on those trying to come into Israel. Oh, and I agree with #2 about Tibi
David ,   Boston, USA   (01.28.08)
16. #13
There is no such status anymore as Ger Toshav, this will be reinstated when the Bais Hamikdash is rebuilt. Ger Toshav is not about loyalty to teh State, or being good, Ger Toshav is one who makes a declaration to a legitamate Bais Din that they will uphold and observe the Seven Noachide Laws. This precludes Christians and Muslims. Practically speaking in today's situation, my question to Mr. Al-Deik is would you swear loyalty to the State of Israel and be loyal to Israel no matter what or would you swear with your fingers crossed behind your back and in your heart curse the Jewish State as do the fifth column knesset members who falsely swear loyalty yet at every opportunity sabotage our State and consort aid and abet our enemies?
Pete ,   Bat Yam   (01.28.08)
17. It's a dilemma
He seems very nice and very sincere. But the concerns are also there and cannot be ignored. I think an easy solution for all will not be found so easily.
Nechama ,   Sydney, Australia   (01.29.08)
18. Why is this news ?
Misrad hapnim jerked me around plenty when I lived in jerusalem.. How naive you are.. anyone can say they love Israel...plenty of pali's marry israeli-arabs just to get israeli citizionship.
Elchonon ,   Chevron   (01.29.08)
19. Legal Trap. Watch Out. No. 8 Is Correct.
Wisconsin Marshall ,   USA   (01.29.08)
20. say no to the arabs!
they are not israeli citiziens, not today and not tommorow!
oded   (01.29.08)
21. Give him his citizenship !
If he pledges his loyalty to the state of Isreal, i cant see whats the probem. He already stated he loves this country and obviously isnt brainwashed with jihad. Israel needs more loyal Arab citizens like him to show the world we are not what others falsely claim.
Freejay ,   Israel   (01.29.08)
22. Even more infuriating
in light of citizenship privileges poured on Law-of-Return waste-of-skin anti-Semitic garbage playing us for suckers.
Unhappy Taxpayer ,   Israel   (01.29.08)
23. sounds like slanted ynet BS
although I do have some sympathy for the guy, Israel is for the Israelites, and not for everyone else, even if they "feel" like Israelis..... Israel has laws......and if you are living illegally for 5 years in a country, why expect it to grant you anything? If I had overstayed my visa when I first came here, I would have been deported, and then restricted from returning So, I obey the law. This fellow is no different except that now he wants special treatment, and uses ynet to publish his propaganda
jack bauer   (01.29.08)
24. Pete #16
Get your facts straight. There's nothing in Islam that precludes Muslims from following the Noahide laws (unlike Xtianity).

25. Just curious
Would his clients be prepared to take an Oath of Allegiance to the Jewish State of Israel?
Reality Check ,   BaGolan   (01.29.08)
26. Just a question
Would I be allowed citizenship in Jordan? Quick answer No---- no matter how "nice" I was.
Hilda ,   US   (04.28.08)
27. #28 answer to question
to be allowed citizen ship in jordan, you need proof of birth in jordan or related to a person with jordanian citizenship (like here pretty much about related pt.). so that means if you were born in iraq, syria, lebanon, UAE, SA, pakistan, think of any outside born arabs and they, too cant have jordanian citizenship. who would want one anyway? lol. the problem with israel is that it keeps changing its laws and putting all kinds of conditions. in the past there was no problem with this for israel, plenty of arabs married jews and that was it. it would be more legitimate on israels side if they picked a law from the beginning and stayed with it. now it looks (if it hasnt before) racial.
