1. what the fuss about?
trumpeldor ,   eurabia   (01.29.08)
Are you gay ? Ok, you may live your sexual preferences in private Gay parades in Jerusalem ? NO !!!!! Simple isn't it???
2. The knesset MUST ban ALL gay parades!
Miriam ,   Israel   (01.29.08)
Gays mustn't be allowed to pollute our youth.
3. DEMOCRACY=HUMAN RIGHTS....
Danielle ,   centre   (01.29.08)
and Jerusalem is not an island. People must learn tolerance and to turn a blind eye. And the rights of each individual of freedom of speech is essential for a healthy society.
4. Isn't Hadash an arab party????
Ben ,   Gush Etzion   (01.29.08)
Gay arabs? Isn't that haram in Islam? Perhaps we need Sharia here for our arabs!
5. This is not unprecedented
Yoni R. ,   Modiin, Israel   (01.29.08)
Although not officially codified into Law, non-Muslims are prohibited by the Israeli police from praying on the Temple Mount, as they are afraid that it will cause a disturbance (not so much the prayer, but the Waqf's and other Muslim worshipers' reactions; ironically, they are still allowed to pray there).
6. reply # 2 The Knesset must ban all religious parades
Simon ,   TA Israel   (01.29.08)
Sorry dear but its called democracy. Jerusalem is supposed to be the capital of Israel. So by denying peoples democratic right to march in our capital you are also undermining Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. You can not deny one group its legitamate right to protest and allow others whether you agree with its cause or not. Gay people march because they are denied their basic human rights in the year 2008. We will march untill this is achieved. Seperate religion and politics now.
7. Gay People Need to Tolerate Other People
Thomas   (01.29.08)
These folks need to understand that mostly religious people live in Jerusalem and they don't want their children exposed to people whose whole identity is wrapped up in their sexuality. If you don't like people bashing your way of life, try not trampleling on other people's beliefs and feelings.
8. Who said this was a democracy?
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.29.08)
9. Gays should join the anti-apartheid campaign ..
Chalanau, Tova ,   London, UK   (01.29.08)
to fight the growth of the settler metastases in every area of Israeli society. They are targeting the Palestinians today... how long before the gays and lesbians are ghetto-ized behind 9 meter walls. Freedom is indivisible.
10. to Thomas # 7 not exactly correct
Simon ,   TA Israel   (01.29.08)
As a gay man i agree in tollerance and acceptance as you state, unfortuently this is one sided here in Israel. Being gay is someones gentic makeup not a life style or fetish. We are still denied basic human rights in the year 2008. Being gay is i agree not all about sexuality however gays are also members of society that should treat all people equal regardless of ethnic background or religious belief and colour. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and it is the democratic right of all groups to protest should they see fit. Should we ban religious gatherings and marches in Tel Aviv? Freedom and democracy for all not just the biggoted religious. For example the Shas party is trying to take our basic human rights away. I dont think the sight of me marching down a street in Jerusalem in my jeans and t shirt should offend anyone.
11. THE ATTACK ON DEMOCRACY HAS BEGUN
Chaim   (01.29.08)
Soon enough the seculars are going to have to realise that democracy means nothing to these religious parties, and stop fighting among themselves over stupid issues. Once the very nature of our state is threatened, I am confident the seculars will rise up.
12. #4 Why not try some research
Aharon   (01.29.08)
Hadash is a mixed Jewish-Arab party, not an Arab party. It is the equivalent of a Communist party, more or less.
13. Let's people gay live in peace
Michel ,   Jerusalem   (01.29.08)
Most of the anti-gays have psychological problems but they would not solve them by banning gay people..
14. PRIDE PARADES ARE ALL ABOUT SEX... NOT SPIRITUAL
stude ham   (01.29.08)
Therefore they do not belong in a city dedicated to the pursuit of holiness... unless you are sufficiently perverse to believe that carnal pursuits = holiness.
15. Democracy does not mean flagrant instigation.
LEE ,   NY, USA   (01.29.08)
The large majority of the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian population of Jerusalem are extremely offended by a parade flaunting homosexuality in their city. The majority decides the rule in a democracy and if the majority had a right to vote on the issue, such parades would never occur in the holiest city recognized by all three major religions. This decision on banning such parades is also being carried out through the democratic process. Basic human rights gaurantees people the freedom to live as they please in the privacy of their home. It does not gaurantee them the right to use public areas to flaunt and push their indecency on an unwilling public.
16. Just like the Nazis !
Hiram ,   Paris   (01.29.08)
Zeev- who-knows-it-all shows exactly the reality of extreme right movements , not only in Israel , but wherever segregation and intellectual diktat attempt to takeover civil liberties. This is done by Jewish extreme right in the same fashion ( and with the same arguments) as the theoricians of NSDAP did during the dark years of Nazism. The train of thoughts is curiously similar . Hitler's gang of murderers viewed the Jews as a whole as a danger to Germany ( and the world ) requiring "Disinfektion". the same "disinfektion which ended up in "sonderbehandlung"....I find it absolutely outrageous and positively out of line with "traditional values of tolerance" that some extreme right fascist ( Yes , He Is ) dare using the words he is using . In Europe, this kind of talk would land the person in jail for apology of homophobia ! When will the "disinfektion against the flue " start ? And who will dare voting in favor ? Zeev ( Like the rest of the bearded idiots, on both sides of the fence ) does not understand that THIS is the kind of statement which will end up damaging the image of Israel.....but extreme right remains extreme right....same causes always produce same , this time " for the greatest Glory of God " ( since this man pretends to be a "good Jew" ) or , for those who have studied Latin : Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam .....Iran has its mollahs hanging Homosexuals, Israel has Zeev ! What an horrible mind ! Just think about what Israel could do if we ever get rid of fascists of all kind !
17. MK Zeev SHOULD BE PUT IN JAIL
Simon ,   TA Israel   (01.29.08)
MK Zeev shows his ignorance and hatred towards his fellow jews . This man would be better off in Nazi Germany where they murdered 500,000 gay men or in modern day Iran where they execute gay men. His attack is an incitement to hatred and violence he should be charged and convicted but they i think the last place i would look for moaral guidance would be the Shas party. Or maybe he has sexual issues and is surpressing his homosexual tendancies ?
18. The Knesset is the Plague of Israel
Andy Flemming ,   Los Angeles, Ca   (01.29.08)
Homosexuals are the plague of israel? correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought that was the incessant terrorism, lack of self soveriegnty, self loathing traitors who want to give back Israel's land to the enemy. Homosexuality is anything but a plague. It's an orientation that must be tolerated if not accepted. This bill sounds like a paraphrase on an earlier bill written years back... in german
19. Rehabilitation centers for SHAS MKs!
Gil   (01.29.08)
MK Zeev's ideas suggest that actually the SHAS members of Knesseth should be "put in rehabilitation centers" . They are really "morally and democratically challenged" (meaning corrupt and stupid). These rehab centers can develop their missing human and democratic values for the benefit of all of us
20. # 10 Simon
Thomas   (01.29.08)
Simon, gay people need to understand that for alot of people sexuality is a private matter. Not something to put on parade. And while you may be at one of these parades dressed in jeans and a t-shirt calling for your civil liberties, there are still alot of people who go to flaunt their sexuality, who dress and act inappropriately. I don't think this is bigotry because we don't want to see heterosexual couples carrying on like that either. You know Orthodox Jews don't even walk on the same sidewalks as their wives, so why would you push such a parade on them if not simply to be confrontational and cause resentment? You still have the right to have a parade in Israel, so why can't they have the right to say, "not in my neighborhood"? Contrary to what you may think, human rights does not equate to the freedom to do whatever you please.
21. gay (sick) parades
bear ,   zefat   (01.29.08)
Why only ban parades in Yerushalayim? Why not the the whole country?
22. What if ..
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.29.08)
seculars said that those anti parades need to be put in rehab centers ? that they have to be treated as bird flu ? How would you react anti parade people ? Disgusted ? right , and i would fully agree with you , and oppose such declarations . But seculars and gays don't say such things , they at least are tolerant toward others , but there is something called reciprocity . ירושלים is and has to be the Capital for ALL Israel's citizens , not only the religious . All Israel's citizens should have the right to demonstrate peacefully in their Capital .
23. Shas deflects attention ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.29.08)
Another big-time red herring by the the religious hypocrites from Shas. Of all the plagues that could destroy Israel, surely Shas would head the list. One cannot help but notice that it is not some "gay" political party that is holding the Olmert coalition in power. Their mean-spirited gay-bashing is just a transparant attempt to distract attention from their support of Olmert. It is a crass attempt to manipulate their socially conservative constituancy by offering a scape-goat in the form of gay individuals. Shameless, cynical, under-handed, hypocritical, & corrupt is the only description of their tactics.
24. Danielle:tolerance ends when hurting others' feelings
trumpeldor ,   eurabia   (01.29.08)
Given the huge percentage of"traditional "people in Jerusalem, why the insistence to do it there T A seems to be a much favourable place....
25. I don't mind
laila ,   italy   (01.29.08)
"I don't mind straight people as long as they act gay in public." DR
26. Shas staying in coalition could destroy Israel!
Nannette ,   London   (01.29.08)
They're doing now what they did with Oslo, and are staying in government because they LOVE power and money more than Israel. They apologised to Oslo... but when there's no Jerusalem who will they apologise too. They'll run away and live off their very fat bank accounts abroad. Shas are as corrupt as the worst in the government and should have NO say on gay rights!
27. He is right
Josh   (01.29.08)
Civil rights includes the word "civil" and the word "rights". There is nothing about homosexuality that has anything to do with perpetuating civility. The parades are sales campaigns and should be stopped. We don't let Microsoft have parades to sell, why should people who do something that is offensive to the senses, to sell a known sin to our people and children. They are not objecting to anything political. Currently gays have the right to be treated just like everyone else. Their parades are not about political injustice but rather exhibitionism, which is illegal under laws that forbid lude conduct. Of the many gays that I met in Los Angeles and around the world. All of them without exception attempted to persuade me that I had the same desires that they had. That somehow is was denying my desire hidden within. Some even make the most lude statements that in of themselves are illegal and indecent. Nothing civil about it. Their tactics are often the same snake-fascination trick that hypnotists use to get audience members more susceptible to their suggestions. They state there is somehow something wrong with you as you are and that if you do not accept their suggestions, you are damaged or evil. To state you don't like gays is grounds for being labeled a homophobic or a gay who is trying to hide inner desires. Well it does wash no more than a hypnotists saying that if you did not allow his suggestions you were not one of the stronger ones in the crowd. He just like the gays have it backward. It is the normal heterosexual who stand up to the sexually deviant and states, you will expose this to my children. I believe gays interfere with normal civilization values. They attempt to make pleasure a higher priority than procreation. Much of the agenda of gays is to affect the mentally of heterosexuals to believe that it is a lifestyle and therefore should be sold as an option. They try to lock individuals under the label of gay stating it is "genetic" at the same time they call it a lifestyle choice. Well which is it? Fact is it is a choice that falls under the same choice "choose death" of Torah. It is no more genetic than a choice to rob, cheat, commit adultery, murder, violate Shabbat, have a false g-d, or to lay with sheep. To overcome it only takes the decision to say no. This is like the witch hunts of Salem in that if you float in the icy waters you are a witch or if you drown you are not, either way your doomed once accused in an unsavory manner. The gay agenda sets you up as the bad guy if you say no to being gay or no to saying you dont want your childrend exposed to their deviant sexual messages. This mind-game becomes a weapon a Gay person can wield. What is civil about this type of aggression on the part of the gays to offend and degrade the righteousness of a heterosexual? The gay agenda places seeds in the mind to confuse the obvious. The obvious that this about nothing more than sex and that sex is designed to be between a man and a woman. Legislation is valuable. There can be no successful civilization without normal families and procreation. Who said this is a right anyway. Torah states it is not. Is there some anti-Torah goyim country who put this under civil rights? G-d never gave that right and if a country is giving rights that G-d did not give, they are not a country that will be blessed with peace.
28. Go and pride in Teheran
Andras Bereny ,   Kfar Tapuah, Samaria   (01.29.08)
Go and pride in Teheran. Keep Jerusalem Jewish!
29. Shas should be dealt with like the bird flu
Eli ,   Jerusalem   (01.29.08)
And maybe the Ashkenasi religious as well. They're polluting Israel with ideas of segregation and hate, rather than practising Judaism. Jews should be united as a people, not divided. There's nothing honorable in their cause. Just confrontation.
30. Gays in Jerusalem
Thom ,   Jerusalem ISRAEL   (01.29.08)
They are here. They are Queer. Get over it. Let's see. Shall a democratic country limit free speech and expression? Sure, why not? MKs can always hide behind the Torah and their beards. Just as long as the State does not limit their rights to sponge off the pubic dole.
