1. Left are hypoctits.
B. Broch ,   USA   (01.30.08)
In Israel, the Left will back gays in their demand to march. Yet these very same Leftists are silent over the fact that Arabs is the strongest homophobic society today. The Arabs are also vehemently anti-feminist.
2. If this is all it is, then no problem...but
Meir Weinstein ,   Toronto, Canada   (01.30.08)
And it is a big but. If it becomes a sex parade, then it is something different. If the writer is suggesting that public sex acts are a good thing and that little children should see this, then he does not understand how offensive such a parade can be. But again, if the parade is strictly just holding signs and hands, then no problem.
3. Gay Rights versus gay fun
G R ,   Jerusalem /Israel   (01.30.08)
Gay Pride parades are a joke to wanting tolerance or rights for gays. The parade is an excuse to promote gay relations. dress down and promote debauchery and promiscuity. It promotes the idea that follow any desire you have even if it is detrimental to everyone and causes problems. They have to give respect to earn it and try not to push gay down heterosexual throats.
4. there is a time and place
josef cohen ,   herzliya il   (01.30.08)
and Jerusalem is not it. End Point. It isn't about Gay it would be just as inappropriate to have a Heterosexual pride parade there with people in skimpy and campy costumes. I get it you are here you are queer. However Gay pride parades are NOT in any way protest parades. They are celebratory and revel in excess. I am not against the parade it is the business of the participants, there are many places in Israel where you can have it. Just don't come here, Ynet, and cry pretending it is other than what it really is. You ask for respect and sensitivity but show absolutely none for the feelings of the people who live in Jerusalem, or for the very nature of the city. It is not an issue of free speech or free expression as you would ask people to believe. It is about a group of people who are being selfish and self indulgent with no regard for others.
5. It is time to organize Gay Congresses and Gay Olympics
Yaakov Sullivan ,   NYC   (01.30.08)
In adult life, gay pride parades are the “gay guy.” When thousands march and openly declare what society teaches us to hide, they convey a clear message to every lesbian girl still in the closet and to every homosexual forced to marry a woman: You are not alone; you are part of a community that would support you and safeguard your rights I evvision a new gay movement that creates International United Gay Nations ( IUGN) and Gay Olympics. Food for thought
6. Deception
Yaakov ,   Jerusalem   (01.30.08)
It is possible for any normal person growing up to "feel" homosexual impulses from time to time. The more homosexuality is flaunted in any society the more normal people give into those impulses that lead them down a road of sensual pleasure difficult to return from, becoming convinced this is their true identity. Increasing empirical evidence shows homosexual behavior to not stem from genetics but from abuse and exposure.
7. re: #4 joseph cohen
yossi ,   jerusalem   (01.30.08)
he is absolutely right, if you wanna make a parade you do it that it doesnt bother the people that are surounding you. for example, would you let the kkk have a parade and march in a neighborhood in israel ( especially one with alot of ashkenazim) , you wouldnt. i believe they have the right to march, but not were it is a bothersome to the whole community . also, its not like youre just offending a few people youre offending more then 90% of jerusalem ( including jews, muslims, christians) i remeber the protest that was going on last year, if the homosexuals wanted to make a parade, and walk down yaffo street half naked thats alright, but for a few people to protest about it, the cops come on horses thety call the tzava and they start beating up innocent people ( i was one of them, i was walking home from the makolet and next thing i know i am being hit with a billy club from a cop on a horse..
8. Reply to # 4 Joseph, sorry but i disagree
Simon ,   TA Israel   (01.30.08)
Sorry Joseph but as a gay man i disagree with you. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and is not a Ultra orthadox stonghold. i think you will find that most people on the gay parade look like regular people and not a bunch of screaming queens wearing leather thongs, unlike the Love Parade in TA where young women are practically naked. By denying the march in Jerusalem you are undermining the status of Jerusalem as the democratic capital of Jerusalem. No one group of element of society has the right to deny another group its freedom and democracy. You have read the article i presume you will understand that still in the year 2008 we are denied basic human right even thougu unlike Shas supporters i work, pay taxes and server in the army however i am denied my rights and subjected to a hate campaign by religious extremists. Besides i am 45 and would look rather ridiculous in skimpy clothes , i hope my jeans and regular shirt does not offend you.
9. the gay guy in the synagogue
izzy d   (01.30.08)
if the class trip is to a holy place, like a synagogue, or a mosque, or a church, i think it safe to suggest that even the most tolerant teachers and counselor and fellow classmates would feel uncomfortable if the gay guy was to prance around half naked and exhibiting behavior that is clearly disrespectful to that time and place. that synagogue is Jerusalem. when the debate was raging on concerning last years parade march, the overwhelming sentiment was: "it has nothing to do with rights and equality, it is about respect". and this was echoed by the religious, the secular and even gays!!! i know because i have gay friends who all told me the same thing (at least most of them did) "here in jerusalem, we are not up against homophobia, we are up against the history and tradition of this city, and to demand the right to march will only damage our cause".
10. # 7 Yossi , what half naked people are you talking about
Simon ,   TA Israel   (01.30.08)
Sorry to disapoint you Yosi but i was at the gay parade last year in Jerusalem the majority of of people are dressed in regualar way like hetros only better taste of course. your claim is is absoulte nonsense to suggest such a thing, you obviously wernt there, If you would like to see half naked hetrosexuals try the love parade in Tel aviv where hetrosexuals are practically naked flaunting their bodies. By denying the march in Jerusalem you are undermining Jerusalem as the democratic capital of Israel, so prehaps it would be better to give half to the Palestinians as it clearly does not represent the democratic state of Israel.
11. To Simon in TA
trumpeldor ,   eurabia   (01.30.08)
Practice whatever sexual preference in private or pubicly in TA Hower, be catious in Jerusalem Anything may happen Democracy or not, most people of Jerusalem do not adhere to your "style" Face it, outcry denial won't help you in that case....
12. The gay gene
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (01.30.08)
Out of the 3.3 billion genes humans possess it is difficult today to find the genes responsible for the gay character. Being gay is not a decision. It is a genetic tendency with all its known variations of behavior. It causes not only mental but also physiologic changes. Let it be known in the near future.
13. OR SHAI YOU MAKE US LAUGH...U ARE A CLOWN
(01.30.08)
14. gay marchs are provocation. We are against the gay ideology
(01.30.08)
15. anyhow, they have the right
ron   (01.30.08)
even if it is intolerent of gays to generate the parade in jerusalem, it is there right. people have the right to ealk in the streeta holding flags. besides, who demand tolerence from the gay comunity? people who have toleremce for them, how try not to hurt there feeling? or the ones who say they should be institutionalized....
16. gay pride in israel!!!
tom ,   israel   (01.30.08)
israel- one of the best countries for gays! especially in the middle east! lets keep working for more freedom!
17. Throw them out
Daniel ,   Israel   (01.30.08)
This is not Jewish culture. This is not even human culture! Throw them out; treat them as AIDs or Plague or Bird Flue or all three together.
18. beautiful happy people bringing needed color 2 Jerusalem!
where's the problem? ,   probably w/u   (01.30.08)
19. # 14 we are against religious gatherings it is a provacation
Simon ,   TA Israel   (01.30.08)
There you are now i`ve denied you your democratic right? Sorry but in my opinion a crowd of harideem is a provacation , i mean who knows? they will start burnng tyres,, blocking roads, engaging in civil distrubance, attacking women on buses and beating not ultra orthadox residents in Beit Shemesh, i guese they have plenty of time to participate in such events as they dont go to work or serve in the army!
20. Homophobia gets the better of Daniel # 17
Simon ,   TA Israel   (01.30.08)
As a gay man and as a jew and human being i find your comments hatefull and offensive . . Your comments about aids are an insult to all the people in the world suffering from aids today and adds to their suffering. Unlike you Daniel Aids does not discirminate and can effect anyone. The same way you speak about gays is the same way Hitler spoke about Jews im sure you must be very proud of yourself. Although if i were you Daniel i would be asking my self how come you have have so much hatred and fear towards gay people - ummm intresting that one hay danny boy?
21. BEAUTIFYING THE SOUL
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (01.30.08)
That is a saying used here in Israel for people like Ohr Shai. What one does in his own bedroom is no ones business nor concern. But to push ones sexuality in ones face is just plain obnoxious. Just picture religious jews parading in T A to push a religious jewish lifestyle on the euro trash worshipping people living there. All these so-called cries about democratic values are just a smoke screen to advocate and force a hedonistic lifestyle on people who believe in Torah, something that these liberals hate with a passion. I suggest that Orh Shai would realy fit in well in Amsterdam with all its ce;ebrated liberties and that is what many others like him should do too. Leave Israel and follow your hellenist lifestyles were they belong outside of Israel.
22. Best Ignored
Rube Vogelanter ,   Jerusalem   (01.30.08)
The author need not worry about Ethiopians, Arabs and Mixed couples being banned from Marching. They are all united against the Gays marching in Jerusalem. The gays who march in Jerusalem have no consideration of anyone elses feelings and therefore deserve no consideration for theirs.
23. against the torah
mordechai ,   sydney, Australia   (01.30.08)
The torah says in parshas kedoshim, that if you do things that are an abomination, jews get thrown out of their land. The only reason why we have Hashems protection is because we follow his torah, but once we go against him, we lose his protection. The torah forbade having male to male relations. If you are gay, keep inside of you. I think that a gay has a disorder like serial killers claim they have, disorders. Jerusalem is a very holy city, and flaunting your gayness, and a slap in the face of G-D.
24. how about hareidi-phobia??
guy ,   jerusalem   (01.30.08)
why did police go into mea sheraim during the gay parade and beat up protesters and spray water hoses into peoples apartments? why are gay people aloud freedom of speech an not haredim? who lived here first?
25. @24: Who lived here first? Probablu the gays!!
Willy ,   Israel   (01.30.08)
hahaha! Homosexuality is much older than religion! That's for sure! Plus: Just take a closer look around in your beloved Hareidi neogborhoods: Just because they're ten miles deep in the closet doesn't mean they're not fantasizing about it every night....
26. to 24 - who lived here first?
Joe ,   USA   (01.30.08)
Ummm...if the bible is any indication, I'd venture it was the gays before the Hareidi.
27. Diaspora
Jenny ,   Boston, USA   (01.30.08)
Sometimes I think I should encourage my children to make Aliyah, but when I read about the hatred of Jews for other Jews that occurs in Israel, I think we are doing more to secure Judaism's future by remaining in the US. Why is Israel so full of hate? People hate Reform Jews, they hate gays, they hate people with different color skins. It makes me sad to think that this is what our beautiful Israel has become.
28. thank you 23 mordechai, now please stay home
moshe   (01.30.08)
another self righteous comment from a nut job who doesnt even have the guts to live here!
29. What about "the religious guy"?
YMBMY ,   Modiin, Israel   (01.30.08)
I'm sure that Or Shai would not complain when the "gay guy" is part of the in-crowd that taunts "the religious guy" in a secular institution. Why are the gay rights more important than religious rights (especially in a Jewish state)?
30. Reply to # 23 Advice from Australia
Simon ,   TA which is Israel   (01.30.08)
If you wish to live your life as you claim according to the Torah then why are you living in Austaralia as some commands can only be fullfilled living in Israel? Yet you feel its your right to tell jews in Israel how to live their live? freedom of religion or belief also includes the right not to believe, You have no right to force and judge others according to your religious beliefs. I choose not to live my life according to religion and do not accept its rulings. Im sure even you can work that one our Bruce or has the fumes from the Barbey confused your head?
