2. apologies are for farting in public,
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (01.31.08)
bumping into someone in a dark movie theater and spilling a drink at a table full of people. NOT for willful behavior. To offer a insincere apology is asking to be allowed to do it again. As such I never accept an apology from anybody who engaged in unreasonable behavior for that reason. To have the college demand a apology be given just reenforces the maxim that I can do as I please as long as I pay lip service to what my higher ups demand. In short in demeans the value of a moral stance. The facilty who demanded the apology need to be fired too.
3. He must be kicked out regarless of the forced apology!
Antonio ,   Haifa   (01.31.08)
4. Wajda, Truffeau, Hitchcock...?
salomon_mizrahi ,   Sao Carlos/SP/Brazil   (01.31.08)
Excuse me there is a point I could not get. Who did Sapir College hired and who are they afraid fire? The lecturer Wajda, Truffeau, Hitchcock, Bunuel, Eisenstein...? Nizar Hassan? Who is this guy?
5. He should not have put himself in this situation
Rami ,   Nazareth, Israel   (01.31.08)
I good ptofessor should not in any way or fashion offend any of his/her students..
6. this "professor" has to be removed
Charles ,   De Haag / NL   (01.31.08)
but will the commie leftie university staff dare to act decisively ???
7. JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT...................
AVROHOM BILGREI ,   ZION   (01.31.08)
YOU HEARD ALL THE MOST ABSURD DEFENSES; The lecturer's attorney, Etti Livni, said that Hassan had acted in good faith. "In class he only wants to see human beings – not soldiers, not Jews and not Arabs – and he did not intend to disparage. The appearance of a uniform sufficiently scared and intimidated him. THE DEFENSE IS SO SHAMEFUL AS TO BE CRUDELY UNPROFESSIONAL ! HER NAME IS LIVNI, PERHAPS IT'S A GENETIC DISORDER AND IT'S HEREDITARY ! DOESN'T THIS VILE INCOMPETENT HAVE ANY SELF RESPECT ? PERHAPS SHE'S TROLLING FOR A PORTFOLIO IN THE OLD MUTT POST WINOGRAD CHARADE ! "He sees them as a revelation of violence. Hassan reacted to the student's appearance in uniform through fear," "believed Cohen was carrying a weapon" THAT HAVING BEEN SAID, HE MIGHT HAVE ASKED; AS IS DONE THOUSANDS OF TIMES A DAY BY HUNDREDS OF MINIMUM WAGE SECURITY GUARDS: DO YOU HAVE A WEAPON ? THIS IS SUCH AN INFERIOR EDUCATOR TO HAVE RELINQUISHED HIS MOST VALUABLE TEACHING TOOL (THE RESPECT OF HIS STUDENTS) TO COMPORT HIMSELF WITH SUCH SELF DEGRADATION; BY IT'S NATURE, DISQUALIFIES HIMSELF AS A COMPETENT EDUCATOR ! THE TRAGEDY IS IT REFLECTS THE THIRD WORLD NATURE OF AN INSTITUTION THAT BECAUSE THEY COULDN’T REPLACE HIM, AND WOULD HAVE TO REFUND ALL THE TUITIONS- PUT FACE SAVING & FISCAL CONCERNS BEFORE PRINCIPLE ! THEY MAY NOT GIVE CREDIT FOR A COURSE IN “FACE SAVING & FISCAL CONCERNS” BUT THEY CAN TAKE THE CREDIT FOR POISONING THE VALUES OF STUDENTS UNDER THEIR TUTELAGE !
8. Forget the apology ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.31.08)
Just throw him out. He doesn't deserve a job in any Israeli institution.
9. FIRE HIM! That's what would have done to a Jewish professor
Avraham ,   NYC   (02.01.08)
had he disparaged an Arab like that!!!
10. "the matter is over" ? Has he apologised ?
redmiike ,   TA - LA - London   (02.01.08)
11. Soldiers at cevilian universities
khalil Shaheen ,   Occupied Ramallah   (02.01.08)
Can anybody in the civilised world accept soldiers in uniform inside universities? you need to learn from palestinian universities even that they work under the occupation of your IDF soldiers.
12. #11 yes you ignoramus, hey can accept them
jack bauer   (02.01.08)
In fact have you ever heard of the ROTC? Since you can't even spell, I guess you haven't, let alone even been on a university campus. As for your address claim..... Ramallah is occupied all right.....occupied by squatting thieves and their birthright stealing progeny. What is most irritating about this is the likes of Etti Livni being a spokesperson and apologist for this numbnut
13. Fire the Bastard
David ,   Montreal, Canada   (02.01.08)
What seems to be lost, is that guys like Cohen put their lives on the line, in that uniform, to keep the JEWISH state alive. That's what Hassan and the useful idiots on left object to. The uniform deserves honor not derision and only a traitor would think otherwise!
14. @ 11, Yes it is an Honor to accept soldiers in uniform
ben shlomo ,   singapore   (02.01.08)
here in Singapore :-) Palestinian universities are for uncivilised creatures who teach Kurafat Islam, Extremist Islamic Terrorism- Jihat !
15. Khalil
(02.01.08)
of course we can accept. Unlike your terrorist friends our soldiers are not animals. In fact some "soldiers" are just reserve corps, with wife, kids, jobs and need to serve once a year, exactly like the ones that your neighbors lynched in 2000!
16. Hey Genius #11
J K ,   NYC, USA   (02.01.08)
I went to State University in New York and plenty of ROTC students who are technically army used to show up to class in their uniforms and received not disparaging remarks from any of the professors. Chew on that. And if you mean learn from the 'Palestinian' universities that create 'fairs' where glorification of homicide bombers are on display and lauded...I think the civilized world can take a pass on that
17. #11 - Can anyone in civilized world???
Arthur ,   SF, CA   (02.01.08)
Accept the 5th column within? I would suggest that you all pick your bags and go.... Enjoy civilized world, universities, etc, etc... living with your brothers. Get out of our country, our little countr, our ONLY country.. You don't belong...
18. Hassan
Libneniyyeh ,   Canada/Lebanon   (02.01.08)
He deserves an award, a medal, a statue. Why? Because he had the b---s to say the truth! Because he acted with pride and integrity, as one who refuses to forget for a moment that his brothers and sisters are under siege by the self same army, by whatever that uniform of the swaggering, insensitive soldier represents. And what it represents is injustice, malice, cruelty, and arrogance. Apologies? Regrets? He should have not a one! Most of todays'university students think that with their parents money they can buy the entire institution, along with its faculty.
19. #11 Khalil - Soldiers at Universities can save lives
Squalid Ibn Harman ,   Qtir   (02.01.08)
It was not that long ago that an insane student at Virginia Tech in USA brought weapons to the university and systematically murdered over 30 students and teachers. Had a legally armed person/student/guard/soldier been there, it might have save many lives. I remember a terrorist attack at the main bus station in Jerusalem where armed citizens killed the terrorists and save many lives. Army service is part of every Israelis duty to defend the country and exclusion of the same soldiers that defend the country from educational institutions or any other aspect of normal respectable live in Israeli is inappropriate and unquestionable.
20. #11
(02.01.08)
yes, the world knows about the so called paklestinian universities......do you mean thise in gaza and west bank whose "laboratories" and "science classes" are actully used for omb making and storage of explosive materials?? gee! no wonder you gazans and arabs in west bank are so brainless and behind. your universities, when camptured by idf always turn out depots of ammunition and explosive materials in the labs. i would say a military uniform is much safer, don't you think?
21. In what parallel universe does Khalil reside?
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (02.01.08)
He writes, "Can anybody in the civilised (sic) world accept soldiers in uniform inside universities" Are you for real? Or just a moron? Soldiers in uniform attend both their own universities and civilian universities in many countries. And we really have nothing to learn from palestinian universities - most of them, for your information, built by Israel during the "occupation".
22. This terrorist military must apologize to the good professor
Yaakov Sullivan ,   NYC   (02.01.08)
for coming without proper uniform. I can understand emotional sensitivity of this intellectual, while seeing his student and his criminal acts.
23. The Internal Arab danger ignored.
Harold Lane ,   Tel Aviv   (02.01.08)
Israel was established as a Jewish and democratic state. If the Arabs living in Israel were to accept the Jewish state as their home its Jewishness and democraty would have been a blessing as explained at : http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2007/12/enemy-within.html
24. Sapir college should fire all those involved
jason white ,   afula,israel   (02.01.08)
and livni should be ashamed of herself for defending an enemy of Israel!
25. Let's put this behind in a civilised way
Ilan ,   Ariel   (02.01.08)
Forward apology, accept apology, move forward.
26. Don't take his courses
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (02.01.08)
If the students don't believe that his apology is sincere and he continues to behave in this matter, and the college refuses to fire him, then the students can take action. Don't register for his courses.
27. Send Sapir College in email...
Dani ,   Tel Aviv   (02.01.08)
All in favor of firing this racist send an email to: info@sapir.ac.il
28. i thought the lecturesrs where on strike
potash katiftof ,   israel   (02.01.08)
I thought all lecturers where on strike and it was a big deal to get them back to teaching. how did this guy manage to offend someone if they where supposed to be on strike. Something sounds fishy here.
29. And if a Jewish teacher refused to teach an Arab in a Kaffiy
Sharona ,   Jerusalem Israel   (02.09.08)
What would you say to that? What if the Jewish teacher said he was "afraid" the Arab was a terrorist? The Jewish teacher in a case like that would likely be fired on the spot.!!!!!
30. Professor Zachor's letter to Hassan
Roberta E. Dzubow ,   Phila, PA, USA   (02.10.08)
I believe Professor Zachor's letter was the correct way to respond. He stated specific items to be included, so Hassan could not produce a pretence of an apology. The next step is to inform Hassan that his job will be forfeit if this attitude/behavior is presented again. And I believe that such blatant hatred will show up again.
