1. Wonderful development, Egypr and Gaza married
Guido ,   Milano, Italy   (02.02.08)
A long lasting wedding, hopefully forever. Most of the problems will thus be solved, the West Bank and Gaza won't need any more a corridor uniting them, as they become two separate entities. Often the worst transforms itself in the best. Oh, Candide, Oh, Voltaire!
2. Good Riddance!
Caroline ,   Israel   (02.02.08)
3. Hooray and good riddance
Danny   (02.02.08)
4. The inhabitants of Gaza.
Harold Lane ,   Tel Aviv   (02.02.08)
For the “innocent” civilians of the Gaza strip, life is getting worse every day, and the situation will certainly not improve in the foreseeable future. Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Fatah and other terror organizations exist only through terror. They will go on bombing Israeli civilians and of course, Israel will react by bombing Gaza. For the inhabitants, future seems gloomy. In order to have a chance for a better future for themselves, but mainly, for their children, the Arabs living in Gaza will have to choose between politics and well-being : they should think about emigrating, discretely, to other Arab countries, (most of these countries are not very populated and can easily integrate them). As to the law, International Law authorizes Israel to initiate military countermeasures in gaza as explained at : http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2008/01/international-law-and-gaza-assault-on_31.html
5. What a good idea.
ys ,   Tal Aviv Israel   (02.02.08)
I say good riddance.
6. This will set history straight!
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.02.08)
Gaza was ALWAYS Egyptian and having "one Palestinian state" formed by both Gaza and West Bank while cutting Israel in two, has always been an Arab ploy to destroy Israel. Gaza ties with Egypt is great news for Israel and for the Gazans, and it solves a lot of problems. This sould not prevent them to have ties with teh West back too, but without any special "pass through" Israel. Of course we will need to build a more defensible fence along the Eilat-Rafiah border but that should have been in place regardless of the "new" threat. I say - let's encourage this development with all our enthusiasm, without forgetting Abu Mazen. Gaza for Egypt will give him a smaller state but a more stable, less complicated one. They may well become the Andorra of the Middle East. Maybe for once, the Palestinians won't mess yet another opportunity to build a future for themselves instead of blaming Israel for anythning bad that's been happening to them.

11. Greqat. THis way Hamas will be fully accountable !
naro ,   nyc   (02.02.08)
Israel will retaliate with full force against rocket attacks, since they arfe no longer responsible for the welfare of the Gaza population.
12. A blessing for both israel and gaza
kutuzov ,   new york   (02.02.08)
...yet somehow, i'm sure, the palestinians will manage to screw this up too. I mean, after all, this may be an opportunity to miss another opportunity. And we know from the past that palestinians have a true gift at taking a good idea and screwing it up royally. Lets hope this is different. Good luck i say...and good riddance.
13. Don't be so happy
(02.02.08)
Those Israelians who sold this things before to the Palistinians must be in coma now ....lol .... now will be easier to smugel the money and the weapons and they will not need tunnels anymore ... the siege of Gaza is the second government mistake after the last war of Lebanon ... the Palistinians will get what they need from Egypt and the quassams soon will start again and the Egyptians will make more money ..... enjoy it
14. Be cautious.
Ephraim ,   Diaspora   (02.02.08)
Israel: Don't show your pleasure too much. If they find out how much you are enjoying this development they will change their minds.
15. I wonder what the Egyptians think about this?
Elisheva B. ,   Berkeley, CA   (02.02.08)
LOL, based on the reaction the Egyptian gov. has been having to the influx of Palestinians and trying to keep them out of towns other than Rafah, I don't think they'll be too keen on this plan. They and the Jordanians were glad to get rid of their problems when Gaza and the West Bank were handed over to the Israelis. But I think it's a great idea! One less problem Israel has to deal with, and Israel can redirect all the energy, medical supplies, etc, to the Israeli population.
16. for the good riddance people
Fadi ,   lobnan   (02.02.08)
the way i see it is a marriage between the brotherhood and Hamas ,and getting rid of your weekend getaway to sinai resorts . unless all of you want to go to elate ,that would be boring and crowded .
17. This will be a great show!
ariel ,   us   (02.02.08)
Marvelous idea! I wish the Arabs of Gaza happiness, prosperity and peace for as long as they coninue not harming Israel. May they become an integral part , or just a colony, of Egypt and enjoy the fruits of coexistence. To the Egyptians... my condolences: they will attempt to subvert your society and will use all the nasty things they have at their disposal.
18. Gaza
Samir ,   US   (02.02.08)
That makes Gaza 'Palestine' - Move the fence east and move in more Jews east of the new fence
19. Hamas/ Israel both Agree to Disengage!
Mark ,   USA   (02.02.08)
They both agree on something. I think this is a good development! The Arabs can now help their brothers and sisters directly in Gaza. Egypt benefits! Israel benefits! Arab Countries Benefit! Finally Israel and Hamas agree!
20. Gaza can now be Independent!
Mark ,   USA   (02.02.08)
The Palestinians want to have an Independent state. Here is the perfect opportunity!! Sharon wanted this to happen but Hamas decided to target Israel with rockets! Being 100% disengaged from Israel will allow them to stop blaming Israel for everything!
21. Good time for Arab Countries to work on peace
Mark ,   USA   (02.02.08)
If the Arabs want peace, help the residents of Gaza! Get Involved in the peace process!
22. Sharon Knew what he was doing!
Mark ,   USA   (02.02.08)
He gave Gazans a chance to develop as an Independent state. They chose Hamas and rockets. They found it did not work and that there are better ways to be Independent!
23. Great idea! The further, the better with ALL Pals
Alan ,   SA   (02.02.08)
24. Im so F****** happy now!!
Y ,   N   (02.02.08)
Yes let Gaza go. Let them merge with Egypt. This is one problem solved for Israel.
25. But wait...
kutuzov ,   new york   (02.02.08)
if they "disengage" from israel, who will the palestinians blame for all of their own failures? Thank you Ynet...this article was worth a good laugh.
26. To allow other arab countries on the boarder is just dumb
Jack ,   USA   (02.02.08)
Any weapos smuggled, money or support including foreign nationals which I believe are already in in the wave are the responsibility of Egypt, Israel needs to have stand up leaders and deal with them wherever they are. If they attack then Israel needs to hit back and make a proclamation 1/4 mile radius will be desstroyed. They fire from a hospital as in Lebbanon then theat goess as well, the responsibility is on them and there people. Get rid of the olmert defeates left dem govt. Elect Benajamin Netnyahu and the Old Lion Moshe Arens, we need them now ad in the US we need McCain Gulliani, and John Bolton for Sec state and We need Newt Gingrich as well.
27. Reacted too fast to title on front page
Suzanne   (02.02.08)
Where it states: "02/02/2008 19:5802/02/2008 19:5802/02/2008 19:58 Hamas: We'll disengage Israel" Ynet, this is a bit misleading!
28. The leech is threatening to change hosts
Alan ,   SA   (02.02.08)
29. They are allready in Egypt what do they need Gaza for
zionist forever   (02.02.08)
Nice idea then we dont need to wate power from Israels electric grid or fuel on terrorists. No more Olmert & Barak promising to cut the electiricty to Gaza and then not following through on the idea. This is a Hamas attampt to stop Israel having any hold over them in terms of electricty and gas so its obvious that the proposal of such threats worries them now Olmert needs to do is carry them through and Olmert for once go on the offensive no talking about releasing hundreds of terrorists with blood on their hands and possibly Marwan Bargouti for Gilad and no more saying how much we c ondem the attacks on Sderot while all he does is build his own billion dollar neuclear bunker. Hurt the terrorists without electricty or gas they wont be able to build their rockets. Have Hamas asked the Egyptians if they are ready to supply Gaza with everything it currenlty gets off Israel. They are not exactly Mubaraks best friends right now. It wouldnt surprise me if the Americans tried to intervine with Hamas using the dollar as their currency leaving them with just the dinnar and I am not sure King Abdullah would feel to happy about the dinar becoming the currency of terror. Let them stop using the shekel now they dont recognise Israel so why use its money wouldnt they rather have a picture of Sheik Yassin or Arafat on their money rather than past presidents and primeministers of the zionist entitt they dont recognise? The Americans will be intervining in any decisions Egypt makes so even if Mubarak accepts the US will tell Egypt to make the same blockades that Israel is making short term to hurt Hamas. Long term god for Israel short term bad for Hamas whichever side of the border they choose.
30. Great news if it's true! (end)
