Metzger to remain chief rabbi despite Mazuz report    Neta Sela
1. Metzger
Rabin , Z.L. , had resigned because his wife had some US$ on a account in the USA . He did'nt commit anything wrong . OK , there was not an evidence found of wrongdoing in Metzger's case , but suspicion , for a head Rabbi , should be enough to resign .
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.18.08)
2. Go! I'm begging ya'
ANOTHER of these phony Holymen/Teacher/Moralists? No better than any Magus who peeks at the entrails of slaughtered animals and who shake, rattle and roll, allegedly in support of maintaining the faith and history of a people/nation. Look. Just rent a car, pick up Olmert,Livni & Barak. Head to the airport, and please,PLEASE. I'm begging you here,....GO!!! I dont care where. Just Go!!!!!
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (02.18.08)
3. Charles, and what about Olmert's corruptions scandals?
And those severe corruptions of some government ministers? Charles, is it really that bad that he received some hotel service for free or cheaper? How cruel this court is towards religious Jews while Olmert with all his corruption scandals has no intentions of resigning and neither does the court have any intentions of dismissing him nor any of those corrupt government officials who did 100 times worse offenses. And the media is silent about them and so are you. How come?
M.M.   (02.18.08)
4. M.M. Anonymous
Are you ashamed of you writing that you do it anonymously ? A head Rabbi has to be a model of correctness . Don't forget that he has to obey , and civilian , and religious laws . He has to be above all suspicions . And even some "services" he received are not allowed .
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.18.08)
5. Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Yona Metzger
This is very hard for me. PLEASE RESIGN ! IF you sit in that position you should ensure you live up to that post of Chief Rabbi.I dont know i fyou are innocent or guilty. But you should have lived a life away from these kind of scandals.Resign Please !

6. It's amazing how so many corrupt leaders stay in power.
The Israeli people just can't seem to get rid of them. Well, let us not kid ourselves, there is really no democracy or accountability of government in Israel. The "Mafia" leaders do whatever they please.

7. Metz is the religious world's olmerde
while this man lieks giving it to young boys form behind, olmerde is doing that to the nation!
eddie ,   London UK   (02.19.08)
8. Charles and others here. So you all agree that
religious Jews are ABOVE secular Jews. Their standards are HIGHER! Just as you understand that the non-Jewish world expects higher standards and morals from Jews in Israel because the Jewish people are superior and on a much higher level. Which is true. The same truth applies to religious Jews. And this is the reason why you expect from religious Jews much higher standards. Because the religious Jews follow the original, traditional Jewish laws without any compromise. That's why, although there's no mention in the Torah that Rabbis getting cheaper rate of hotels is illegal, the government has to dig under the earth to find some offense. Sheer nonsense! Now the question. Why would you not want join these elite group of Jews?
M.M.   (02.19.08)
9. M.M.
I only expects higher standards of someone who has been appointed chief Rabbi . The religious are NOT the elite in Israel . The elites , those who gave this country a first rang place in the world , those people are mostly seculars . Are those hatefull faces we have seen in our capital also part of your "elite" ? Nice people , with high standards indeed . No thanks , i'm not joining such "elites" , who are well represented by an anonymous guy , ashamed of his/her writings
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.19.08)
10. MM ( who ever you name is )
Two gladiators cannot sleep on the same board. In this case his mind and his heart went wandering the wrong way sleeping on the same board. To the point he open the door to scandal. We do not judge our fellow man until we have been in his place. Insufficient evidence does not mean his case must tip the scale in his favour, That is in secular law, not under jewish law. When the rabbi judges his fellow man on the scale of merit in future, he runs into further admonisment. He should have live d up to the mark in his position. It is a promise from the day of his ordination. What is that he lacks, ?We give him everyting he wants. Why did he engaged into such scandalous matters toward dissension. We been taught by the Lions that a house in which there is dissension will be destroyed in the end. Is that what the learned Rabbi wants. He owns an apology if he is guilty. Thats all!
ben shlomo ,   singapore   (02.19.08)
11. Metzger resign!
Why is this man still in power? Where are the calls for his resignation or permanent suspension? Why is the State`s authority once again flouted by the religious sector? This is absurd.
ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (02.19.08)
12. A tarnished symbol to be not proud of.
Another morning and Metzger is still on the job. A shining symbol of what a person in his job description should NOT be. And a means; a standard for everyone else who is a grifter, a schnorrer, an apple stealer to claim a right to stay where he/she should not be. Holy men who are not. Diplomats who are not diplomatic. law Enforcement Officers who break the law. Elected representatives who only represent their own shabby interests. The Government of Israel is an Aegean stable within whose walls the horses have been fed laxatives. The polititurds however, are "un-moved" so to speak.
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (02.19.08)
13. M.M.
A religious man/woman has to obey twice . First the civil laws , then the religious ones . So by doing something wrong he is guilty of TWO misdoings . That's why religious people have to behave in a "better" way than seculars , not because they allegedly belong to a "elite"
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.19.08)
14. Dismiss him and find a honest Imam for yourself
No hope for Zionist institutions from Highest President (Rapist) to lowest foot soldier(Also rapist) I bet your chief rabbi is also a rapist, a sin invites other and they all found together if one of them is found.
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (02.19.08)
15. Rabbi Metzger've got a really nice hat!
Ariel ,   Over there   (02.19.08)
16. Chief Rabbi and Attoney General
I am not in favour of the Chief Rabbi acting improperly (if he did) BUT our Attoney General has no right to urge anyone to resign his position if, he, the Attorney General has insufficient evidence to prosecute. Such conduct by the Attorney General is highly unprofessional and I think that as this is not the first time that the AG has acted in this manner, it is HE, the Attoney General, who should resign from his office, or alternative he should be dismissed!
Spencer ,   Ra'anana   (02.20.08)
17. Charles and others
The Sages say “Hakadosh Baruch Hu medakdek im tzaddikim kechut hase’arah”, which means, G-d holds the tzaddikim accountable even for a hairbreadth and that every action and word is taken very seriously and can have grave consequences. Tzaddikim have to live up to higher standards and face challenges that are different from those facing regular humans. This is exactly how the judges in Israel judge the truly honest and upstanding people like Rabbi Metzger, causing an uproar for stupidities. If it were Olmert who is known as the most corrupt PM Israel has ever had or if it were many of his government ministers who have the same reputation, such a silly "offense" - if you want to call it that – of getting the hotel for a cheaper rate, would not even be included in their corruption list but merely disregarded. In summary: Rabbi Metzger is a true tzaddik in the eyes of Israel’s court so he has to be judged accordingly with the harshest judgment. Can’t argue with facts.

M.M.   (02.20.08)
19. How come public officials, including the Rabbinate in Israel
hang on to their jobs whatever they do wrong? From the rabbonim to the MK's, no one pays. Why? In Israel of all places.
(02.20.08)
20. Metzger , a true tsaddik ???
Does a true tsaddik lie ? He did . He pretended that his appartement in Jerusalem was not Kosher for Pesach , so he had to stay at the hotel , but he received guests in his appartement over the feast .
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.20.08)
21. #20 Rabbi Metzger IS a true tzaddik certainly in the eyes of
the courts in Israel and the attorney general. Always give people the benefit of the doubt. It's very possible that indeed his apartment was not kosher for Pesach, only the bedrooms for guest were. The bedrooms are easier to be cleaned for Pesach than a kitchen, a dining room and living room.
M.M.   (02.21.08)
22. ~15 - he's almost handsome :)
(02.21.08)
23. 21, a liar !
When you have guests , it's not only in the bedrooms . A person with his position , Chief Rabbi , will NOT have guest in a house NOT completely kosher . Where did you see that he is tsaddik in the eyes of the courts and the attorney general ? I think that you are at least distorting what you read .
