mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.21.08)
looks to me that whatever israel has been doing isn't working. sure it's convenient to say you're acting like christians (when indeed by saying that shows you have no clue what you're talking about), but that's hardly the case. last i checked, christianity didn't have much to do with anything his country ever did, much less anything it is doing now. stand up and accept the blame for your own failures without looking for a scapegoat. go ahead and act the full-fledged "jewish" (that is, muslim) way and let's see if your problems will be solved. we should have more of the same, and then some.

Talula ,   Israel   (02.21.08)
He's really trying for his 20 minutes of fame, isn't he. First he poses as an Agony Aunt, answering letters from young unhappily married women, now he is 'advising' the IDF on his strategy on dealing with the current problem of rockets in the South. I can't help but find some amusement in this. What isn't funny however, is that the Rabbi is an Idiot. Are HIS children serving in the IDF? Will it be his children that will be sent to Beit Hanoun to ‘destroy it’? Or MY child. I think the answer is MY child will be sent there not his. Why doesn't he just shut his mouth and concentrate on his Saturday morning sermon and leave the serious stuff to people who know better.
8. Christian values ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.21.08)
Goyim would have leveled every building in Gaza. This turn the other cheek BS is reserved for Sunday morning & criticizing us when we defend ourselves, it being commonly accepted that Jews alone out of all the world's peoples, have no right of self-defense. Strangely enough, many Jews accept the same idea & see any attempt at self-defense as somehow immoral while at the same time, finding it acceptable for others. Christians had no trouble fighting wars for 2000 years; Muslims for 1400 years. We, on the other hand, were unable to defend ourselves since the Roman wars. Thus, our status as a permanent victim was firmly established. The lesson of history is that the world is not kind to victims & losers while winning is generally applauded. As to the rabbi's thesis that destroying an entire Gaza neighborhood would stop Kassams, I would have to agree that massive retaliation certainly would give Hamas food for thought. What the good rabbi neglected to say is that if Hamas had the military capability to destroy us, they certainly would - and the whole world would stand by & watch, not lifting a finger to help us.
9. Rabbi, you are not a military man, nor are you qualified...
Aharon   (02.21.08)
To be passing judgment on Israeli government policy. In fact, Rabbis have not been qualified to make pass such judgments for several thousand years, since Israel was a theocracy. It is time you accepted Israel's democratic nature, with all of the characteristics that accompany that classification, among which is a degree of seperation between religion and state. Pass ruling on matters of religion, not on matters of military doctrine or political decisions in which you are utterly unqualified.
10. What Rabbi Shuel Eliya...
Marlene ,   Israel   (02.21.08)
At least someone in this country has a bit of sense. The more we give the more they take. By not retailating the Gazans know they will get away with it. From day one we should have sent rockets over their villages.
11. Anti Rabbi
steve ,   london, england   (02.21.08)
Fortunately for Jews, the State of Israel is a secular state and does not follow orders according to perceived holy writ. It follows a broad ethos defined in terms of human rights. The people of Israel underwrite this with Jewish morality. Thus the world has a intellectual friend in the global school of reason and conscience. Jews have been misled by religious fanatics for centuries. This rabbi is another fanatic. Obliterating a Palestinian town will serve only to increase the difficulties facing the State of Israel and Jews everywhere in this world. Most of the religious teachers in Israel know this war is about psychology and most intelligent and genuine politicians know it is about social psychology. A culture of peace has to develop between Palestinians and Israelis and it will not be sustainable until Judaism and Islam are respected as secular disciplines in society. We have two very different civilizations. A holy war will add hostility to these fundamental differences of culture and society. This Rabbi needs a lesson in human rights. If he wants to serve the people of Israel he should add his voice to the call for human rights in Palestine and Israel. For that is the only non-violent path. If he has any conscience at all for what his brand of philosophy spells out for Jews the world over he should issue a public apology for his comments. I hope that when he enters a synagogue all righteous jews will exit it until he leaves. Leave the man alone with GOD so GOD can purge his conscience. Careless talk costs lives and this rabbi is more than careless. He doesn't care about anybody but who he perceives are his flock. He should wash his mouth out with soap. AMEN ve AMEN
12. when there is no leadership, we have wisdom from...
eddie ,   London UK   (02.21.08)
This Rabbi is right - the political and military echelons have no ideas, no solutions, and have allowed the terrorists to dictate the status quo. So rockets falling in israel are the norm, but any retaliation by israel is regarded as "disproportionate". But , this is the Peace which rabin , Peres, Barak, and Olmert have brought to Israel!

First: we didn't LIVE through the holocaust - we DIED through it, and by the millions for your information. Second: leveling terrorists' houses has nothing to do with extremism but with plain survival. Period. Aren't you muslems leveling kids in sderot, and hi risers in USA, bombing subways ect ect ect ect ect ect ect ect ect ect ????????

Level it!!! Take back the Land that HaShem has given you. You are misquoting what Christians believe.
18. To Mohammed, #15
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (02.21.08)
Rabbi Eliyahu's suggestions cannot be compared to the Holocaust. Firstly, he specifically stated that he did not mean the residents should be killed, but the town destroyed. In fact, he stated that the current campaign of targeted killing is wrong because innocent children are killed. (as you can see, even our extremists place great value in human life. can the same be said about yours?) Also, the Holocaust did not victimize enemies of war but rather fellow citizens. I agree that the brutal slaying of your enemy is not always called for but the Holocaust was unique becuase one element of society turned on its fellow citizens, co-workers, emplyees, neighbors, etc. Here, we are dealing with two peoples who have tried to live together (at least we have tried to live with you) but are at war over land. The Holocaust was a unique event and I reject your attempt to trivialize the Holocaust as an act of war.

Jonas ,   SAD   (02.21.08)
Will you level Mea Sharim, since my cousin got a stone 2 days ago near it (he was not even IN it) - because he was in shorts and did not wear a kippah? You think you are G-d, Eliyahu, that can order destruction of towns?
21. Sderot vs. Gaza
Wade ,   NYC   (02.21.08)
I agree with rabbi Eliyahu and with Meir Sheetrit. Start with neighborhoods from which rockets are launched. If Hamas et al doesn't agree to stop attacks, all built up areas within range will be eliminated, removing terrorists' cover and giving the IAF clear targets of future terrorist activity.

Terry: You are showing your ignorance. Just as Judaism has its Orthodox, Reformed, Karaite, etc. Christanity has its different branches. Please don't put everyone who believes that Rabbi Yeshua is Mashiach in one big group. There are many of us who believe all the Holy Scriptures and that G-d demanded that Amelek not live. Amelek being the grandson of Esav is rooted in the same seed. The seed of the serpent. Turning the other cheek is an instruction given to teach us as individules how to interact with our neighbor. Please tell me why so many Israelis think that we are your enemy. Will you insist on judging all of us on the basis of what the ignorant and evil popes did in the middle ages? Israel needs friends now. Don't continue to make enemies of your friends. I support Israel 100%. I am willing to join with Israel in battle if the opportunity arises. If I am next to you on the battlefield will you turn on me when the victory is won? Do I need to fear the people I love? Get a grip Terry. You are wrong.

I love how Arabs use holocaust references when how ever they feel it will best suit them. To refer to Jews in illustrations they love to dress us up and use holocaust images and read the Elders of Zion like the bible, but then, when something doesn't suit them they cry about how they are the vitims and the Israeli's are the Nazis. Go do something productive like read a book perhaps then you would have something educated to say.
24. Rabbi Eliyahu & Christianity
Thomas Baker, M.D. ,   Longmont, CO USA   (02.22.08)
The words about loving your neighbor in the New Testament are from Moshe in Leviticus 19:18 and following. I do, however, agree with the Rabbi about his solution. The land belongs to the Jews and to surrender it goes against Torah and the L-rd. Defend what is yours.

steve ,   london, england   (02.21.08)
You have a right to express yourself freely but you are wrong in what you have expressed. First, you have no knowledge of me or where I live. But I dwell in the Israel. Second, I am 100% RIGHT about this Rabbi. He should go think about his conscience. People such as this bring nothing but shame and hatred on Israel and more support for Palestinian terror groups. Where is your head? There is NO violent soluition to the problem of creating peaceful relations with Palestinian society. What part of the word PEACE do you not understand? The Israel governement exercises punitive military strikes against terrorists in Gaza. This is a rational policy in wartime, and this is a war. But this war is not against Palestinians in general and that is what this rabbi advocates - obliteration of their homes. Where would such a policy lead? First one then another and another! Shall the State of Israel become a enemy of righteous people in Palestinian and Arab society? I advise all of you who would support this rabbi to cleanse your thoughts of such abominations. Seek clarity for your thoughts in prayer to GOD. For GOD is not the possession of this rabbi, the State of Israel or any nation or group or individual. More things are wrought through prayer than this world dreams of, and prayer is a fundamental concern to the development of a culture of peace. Our ally the United States of America would be justified to censure such an arbitrary policy and cut financial aid. We don't want that. We want the world to put pressure on Hamas to anandon armed struggle. Do you think they will abandon armed struggle if the IDF obliterates one of their towns? So you are wrong and I am RIGHT. What are you gunna do about it? Forget your selfish pride and send it up in prayer. Only a blessing can come upon you. AMEN ve AMEN

sawsan ,   jerusalem   (02.22.08)
rabi tell it in any logic but not under a religion .... from the start of the life on the earth ..the two sons of adam are querelling for some earth benifit /one said i will kill you the other said if you want to kill me i will not do it ... and this was the first crime on the earth // so if you want to be as a religouse man be away from policy // but you can say any political thing but not killing in the name of religion

Squalid Ibn Harman ,   Qtir   (02.22.08)
#15 Mohamed - It is because we survived the Holocaust and far too many pogroms, Spanish Inquisition, and Crusades, etc. Never again will we be passive as our enemies strive to murder and destroy and erradicate us from the face of the earth. It is written "When some comes to murder you, arise earlier and kill him first". We wanted to work together with our "cousins" to build the region but under Haj Amin Al Hussein we suffered massacres in 1920, 1929, and 1936. Since then the history is full of the evolution of terror from mobs to terrorist groups, hijackings in the 70's, multiple wars and attacks, even Munich massacre, and 2 Intifadas. We left Gaza but we still suffer constant Qassam attacks with absolutely 0 effort by Hamas in Gaza to improve the quality of life for Gazans as the deaths of Israelis is far more important. So long as they can attempt to attack and murder an Israeli, they are prepared to sacrifice any number of Palestinians. Suicide has become the Palestinian national pasttime from the individual to the entire population of Gaza. They have set the exchange rate at 1400 Palestinians for 1 Israeli. PAL blood is very cheap. The bottom line is we are tired of being targeted for slaughter. Intifada 2 brought Sharon to power. I can only image who will replace Olmert as you see that Israelis have no more patience with terrorists.
29. Israeli Government
Marilyn ,   USA   (02.22.08)
The Israeli government for the most part hasn't listened to Christian scriptural interpretation. For example Christians wanted Israel not to give up land (especially not Jerusalem), not to have gay parade, not to go into last war, etc.
30. The Holocaust and extermism
Mohamed ,   Ejerusalem Palestine   (02.22.08)
Thank you for your reaction. I am a muslim, proud to be one. I am agains all terror acts, sderot rocks and the holocaust. I assure you if I was living in europe in the 40s, I would have dones what was needed to protect jews agains the holocaust and this as a human being. But to accept that a religous person say that he wants to level a whole town forgetting that there are so many people who are innocent in this town is amazing. The holocaust was the a great great suffering, but it does not justify you to become a beast and kill in the name of fight against terror.Israel has become such an ugly beast of occupation but you do not see it. You simplify matters and make all actions by the IDF as acceptable and you sleep well at night. you have created such an ugly society full of hate, a violent society that has lost its faith and morality and that know only the uprooting of olive trees, home destructions, indescriminate kilings...... wake us before it is too late and do not accept all violent actions for granted. there are many people like me a muslim againt hatered and violence who can live in full peace with the jews in the holy land. Thanks again for your comment. Feras
