1. qassam threat
colin   (02.28.08)
The egomaniac barak is right in his assumption that the threat is to arrive faster than expected. The people will get rid of him and the corrupt olmert government.Hence the time expectancy will be less .At least BIBI will allow the IDF to defend the country.BiBI will not allow politicians in the defence of the country.ByBY barak------
2. I feel your pain
Ehud Barak ,   Sderot, Israel   (02.28.08)
People of Sderot, I feel your pain.
3. SITTING SHIVA...THE NATION SHOULD MOURN TOGETHER
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (02.28.08)
MAYBE THE WHOLE NATION SHOULD OBSERVE A PERIOD OF MOURNING....IN THE BIBLE... WHEN GREAT LEADERS PASSED AWAY,THE STATE UNDERWENT A PERIOD OF MOURNING....WHATEVER CHARACTER THIS MAN HAD,WHETHER IT EVEN SHOWED ITSELF IN HUMILITY,THE DEMONSTRATION OF THIS ASPECT OF TORAH KNOWLEDGE IS AN ACT OF LEADERSHIP THAT SHOULD BE FOLLOWED .THERFORE , NOW A GREAT LEADER HAS PASSED .AWAY....WHENEVER AN ACT OF VIOLENCE TERMINATES A JEWISH SOUL, OR MAIMES SOMEONE ,THE NATION SHOULD NOT PRE-OCCUPY ITSELF TOTALLY WITH SECULAR ACTIVITY BUT , THE WHOLE HOUSE OF ISRAEL BEING ONE LARGE FAMILY,(ALL DIVISIONS SET ASIDE) THIS IS A TIME FOR UNITY AND WHERE POSSIBLE ALL SHOULD GO INTO A SET PERIOD OF COMMUNAL MOURNING. EVEN FOR AN HOUR .IN THE SYNAGOGUES . AT SHACHRIT,MINCHA, OR MARIV IN THE SYNAGOGUES ,MAYBE WITH OUR HEARTFELT EXPRESSIONS OF SORROW, "HASHEM IWILL ANSWER OUR PRAYERS"
4. barak
gavriel ,   maoz zion   (02.28.08)
barak talks about one casualty, what about all the injured , shocked and mentally hurt? are they not casualties? barak is threatning again wth no real substance it is just talk. how long do we have to suffer because of these marxists who gevern israel against will of people?
5. The Israelo-Arab conflict
Jean Van Daem ,   Metula   (02.28.08)
The Middle-East conflict is not just a regional conflict and the real problems are not the Kassams. We are all now in a much bigger game. All of us - the US, Israel and Europe are all conscripts in a war of ideas. If Israel, Heaven forbid, were to go down, then they would be next. But no one sees this. Israel doesn't see this, preoccupied as it is with the military aspects of its struggle. Moreover, many people in the US and Europe sees Israel as the principle reason why the West is under attack - instead of as it should, as the front line of the defense of the West as explained at : http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2007/12/islam-or-naught_7713.html
6. perhaps Barak should stick to small unit operations
aaron ,   ra'anana   (02.28.08)
because strategically he seems incapable of leading Israel to victory the pullout from Lebanon and abandoning the SLA - strategic disaster encouraging the 2nd intifada, showing the arabs Israel is weak and can be driven from the battlefield, and leading to the 2nd Lebanon war by showing Hezbollah how to defeat Israel Shepardstown - no result (thank goodness, he failed to give away the Golan) Camp David - strategic failure --- putting Arafat in a room with Clinton and pushing around paper does not lead to peace with terrorist gangs October Riots - Barak's tit for tat response allowed the 2nd intifada to continue to boil ... the death toll for israel of the intifada is 1600 and continues... negotiating under fire at Taba - did not lead to any results, besides Barak's losing the election in short, Barak is a proven loser for Israel.
7. To #3, Roland Seener: You are right in many ways...
me ,   here   (02.28.08)
But the usual way of showing our strength and determination is to go on living our usual lives and refuse to give in to the terrorists, whose ultimate goal is to scare us enough to interrupt our daily lives. - Obviously, we will not do anything of the kind! Last autumn there was a car explosion in Akko, criminally but not politically motivated, in the middle of the main street. One hour later, life returned to normal again as if nothing had happened. That is the custom in all of Israel, and I think it is a good one - not to let ourselves be scared or change our routines!!! Still, that does not exclude a shiva of the kind that you describe in your talkback, a unifying and common reaction to the memory of the diseased... It should be done in after-work hours, though, in a way that does not interrupt the daily life... It could be done efficiently and properly in this way too...
8. Does Barak mean that Labor will quit the coalition !
redmiike ,   TA - LA - London   (02.28.08)
If he does then he's telling the truth for a change. Labor quits the coalition, Bibi becomes PM and the kassams stop. Very quickly. I am not a huge fan of Bibi but he doesn't have two sons avoiding the IDF, a daughter that checks Israeli soldiers at the check points or a wife that's left of Trotsky. Mike
9. To #3, Roland: Agree with your comment...
Mark Kleiman ,   Florida, USA   (02.28.08)
about Israel needing to come together. Do you wear orange? ...like the Gush Katif wrist band? Think this is one way we can show solidarity, and also give moral support to the Jews of Gush Katif.
10. theres only one solution... official annexation + transfer
then there can ,   be peace   (02.28.08)
