MKs asked to 'stop apartheid on kosher bus lines'     Kobi Nahshoni
1. Fanatics!
I am a jew, and I can't relate to people who would petition such a discrimination. This is in NO WAY the word of G.. or that of our people. The Haredi should really focus on more important issues and stop trying to make everybody's life miserable in Israel. Just as whatever you do in your home is your business, you have no right to impose your belief upon ANYONE, especially in public places and transport. And Eged should take a firm stand or face legal proceedings! And it's time this country gets his act together and stops wasting time and energy on such ridiculous and unfounded claims. Israel is the land of Jews, of ALL Jews. It's time the haredi Jews accept it and start acting like Jews again.
Michael ,   Belgium   (03.11.08)
2. Well said, #1, I agree!
Anne ,   USA   (03.11.08)
6. Good for her...
I'm glad she's speaking out. Eshes Chayil indeed. This is bad stuff, and they certainly won't listen to a drunk Jew from Texas with a black eye. This fight needs to be raised from within and supported from the outside.
A ,   Jerusalem   (03.11.08)
7. If we can segregate roads, why not also buses?!
Welcome to South Africa.
Mandela   (03.11.08)
8. all red indicators flashing
Ynet is "making the market" in this trash And Kolech ??Feh. Lefitst M.O. s with nothing to do but bait the Haredim. Know them by the company they keep. Who has any faith in the courts but You Know Who? From the looks of this chick she doesnt live in Bnei brak or Romema and it doest affect her. Beware the half baked do gooder !!!!!!!!!!
B. S. Detector ,   surfing the sewer   (03.11.08)
9. No to Sharia and Halacha state!
Last week haredim didn't let the miluimnik with the gun and huge bag to enter "their" bus. It happened in Pisgat-Zeev Jerusalem in 2007...Who's country is this?
val   (03.11.08)
10. #7, yeah, welcome to the NEW South Africa
Let's all celebrate her newfound freedom by taking a leisurely stroll through Johannesburg!
Jake   (03.11.08)
11. freedom
If the hareidim want to have private busses for themselves, well thats freedom.
bubba ,   nyc   (03.11.08)
12. Do not follow the ways of the goyim
This is the ways of the Muslims.
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (03.11.08)
13. Now # 7 it is simply not fair
So here comes the racist apartheid Israel label, the Jews do others what they got in Auschwitz etc. and this is precisely what this campaign is designed for. To show the world how terrible Jews are. It will be reproduced and commented upon all over the world, in the antisemitic press. Well, men and women ARE separated in religious communities, so it is not a civil legal issue knesset should be concerned about. It is Jewish tradition and should be respected by the lady in question as such. If she doesn't like this one she may put on a mini skirt and expose here curves. What's the difference? It's the same unmodest behavior. Her campaign hurts the religious community, so she should ask tough question to herself.
Andras Bereny ,   Kfar Tapuah, Ephraim   (03.11.08)
14. BUS SEPARATION IS AGAINST TORAH ALSOBECAUSE IT ADDS TO TORAH
NOWHERE IN TORAH, except in the SICK MINDS of TALIBAN IMITATORS, WHO IMITATE OTHER ODOL-WORSHIPPERS IN THEIR CHOICE OF COLOURS (see what the Tannaim, Rabbenu Bachie - a Rishon - and Ben Ish Chai - an acharon - have to say about those who wear black) and also FOREIGN IDEAS THAT BELONG IN KABUL OR TEHERAN BUT NOT IN ERETS ISRAEL!
SERGIO ,   ISRAEL   (03.11.08)
15. In a Democracy, Segregation Must Not be Publicly Funded
I cannot believe that there is even a debate about this in a country that claims to be a democracy for it is wrong on so many levels. Let these religious extremists transport themselves at their own expense if they cannot control their sexual urges in public, but a true democratic country cannot validate the discrimination against women or any group with public funds as it sends the wrong message to the children of Israel and will only foster more discrimination towards others. Isn't it about time you moved into the 21st century Israel?
Johan Odin ,   Oslo, Norway   (03.11.08)
16. and the talmud says...
walk behind a lion before walking behind a woman. does any left wing fanatic want to explain that to me?
yoni ,   jerusalem   (03.11.08)
17. Israel not Part of Europe
With such BACKWARD bahavior, Israel cannot be accepted into a normal society. Israel behaves like a Taliban State and is sliding more and backward. WITHOUT SECULAR JEWS, THE "RELIGIOUS" CANNOT EXIST = END OF ISRAEL. So, where will they go? Poland? Maybe send the Haredis to the West Bank and put up a fence. A 2-State Solution? Not bad!
Robet Goulet ,   Miama   (03.11.08)
18. Jewish Nazis
They are behaving like racist bandits!
Chucky Cheese ,   New england   (03.12.08)

Please provide context. Where exactly is this written? I would like to read it myself before commenting.

20. My Discrimatory Egged Experience
I got on an Egged bus last May, knew no Hebrew yet, nor the distance to my destination, so tried to sit in the front seat-- next to a Haredi man. I needed to be close to the driver, in order to get safely to Tsfat. Both the Egged driver and the Haredi man made me move to the back. I sat there scared the whole time that I would miss my stop. What was the purpose of this?! Some people need access to the driver, for goodness' sake!
Yaakova ,   Florida, USA   (03.12.08)
21. #16 would you be kind enough to
provide a reference. Of course if women were to sit at the front of the bus then the poor easily inflamed men would have to pass between two rows of - shock,! horror! women to reach the back. Now isn't walking between two women like walking between two donkeys according to haredi tradition. It must mean that the men are being sensitive to our feelings by making us poor creatures sit at the back. BTW is it true or urban myth that a girl soldier was thrown off an Egged bus in Tsfat for refusing to move to the back?
mother of four ,   Israel   (03.12.08)
22. "Segregation"
1. The buses involved are only those involving 99% Chareidi travellers. No-one is suggesting running them through Tel Aviv! 2 The article suggests that it makes it harder for ladies with strollers - actually you are wrong. Women with strollers always get on in the middle/end, so that they can park their strollers in the designated spaces. 3. While I personally do not care either way about the issue, I (who travel on "separate seating" buses daily) have never seen any nastiness whatsover. If a young lady has sat on the front rows, I have occasionally seen another lady pleasantly ask her if she would mind moving back a couple of rows. On two occasions I saw the first lady happilly move back a couple of rows; on another occasion, a lady said that she can't move - end of story; no curses, violence or other. On occasion I see elderly ladies, or ladies holding babies in the front seats, I have NEVER witnessed anyone trying to move them. 4. The secular community wants things their way. Fine. It doesn't disturb me if Modiin has bars open on Friday night - I'm not there; why should it bother anyone there if the buses in Modiin Elite request that the first 3 rows be kept for men?
Shalom   (03.12.08)
23. Shalom # 22 wrong
Women with strollers are not always getting in the bus by the middle/back entrance . Most of whom i see do it by the front . So if you tell UNTRUE stories on this , what about the others ?
charles ,   petach tikva   (03.12.08)
24. Charles
Sorry if I used the word "always" instead of "usually". As there is standing space opposite the doors, it is much easier for a Mother to board a bus there. I have seen the most secular looking stroller pushers do so.
Shalom   (03.12.08)
25. Shalom , don't tell bubemaisses
As i wrote , most of the mothers with a stroller i see , get the bus in the FRONT door . Not usually as you write , but MOSTLY . The door where the women get into the bus is not religious related .
charles ,   petach tikva   (03.12.08)
26. Cancel buses for the religious and be done with it.
Had Enough of them ,   Israel   (03.12.08)
27. #21 Without even reading up on the girl soldier
I'd say it sounds about right. Kicking a female soldier off of a bus is nothing to them.
Talula ,   Israel   (03.12.08)
28. # 13 Andras and his so called values
Gee Andras so good of you to define and dictate and even demand to the rest of us mere mortals what you consider to be respctable dress. You see in the real world, and not the occupied terrotories their is this little thing called freedom and democracy that gives women choice to dress in the way they choose. Respect buddy is a two way street dont you think? If your orthhadox buddies have a problem with their sexual urges let them have their own bus comapany so they can stay off public transport untill they learn to behave like human beings. Whats next after Egged how about rascisim and discrmination in the Skys on EL AL flights? I mean those shocking female stewardess !
Simon ,   TA Israel   (03.12.08)
29. #28 I agree with you 100% !!!
Some smelly Hasidic man asked me to move from my designated seat on board an El Al flight from London - I said when Hell freezes over. Thank god they found him a seat at the back. How DARE THEY!!!
Talula ,   Israel   (03.12.08)
30. PERVERTS
Having just come back from a trip to Israel, I can say that the Charedi community is so pre-occupied with sex and women that they cannot even get on the bus without zooming in on the women on the bus. Normal people do not have this pre-occupation. Their interpretation of the torah and halacha is a perversion of what it means to "be Jewish".
