Gays in Israel are a pretty smart bunch. I can't imagine anybody falling for these stupid statements from a visiting American. They're not funny - just kind of dumb.

Gays ARE, in the main, a respectable lot, no more or less spiritual than any other group. My friends don't spend alot of time in bars and aren't having sex with different partners all the time. We have jobs, families - and love lives that are more or less like straight people. I am all about freedom - but I don't see the need to provoke people with overt sexuality OF ANY KIND - gay or straight. I guess I am backward like you. Disregard Yaacov Sullivan's post - he sounds like an idiot. He's always talking about how he and his husband Hassan love to mix it up with Israelis and Palestinians and how Israel needs to be one great big bi-national state. I can't figure out what he's blathering on about half the time. As for coverage - I think Ynet should continue to talk about gay issues - but this idiodic piece about gay pick up lines is trashy.

And I'm not gay ("not that there's anything wrong with that"). It is about time the world realizes that Israel is not some shtetl transplanted in the Middle East, but a (mostly) modern, open and innovative society. This is the Israel I am proud of and want the world to know: the State of the Jews, not the Jewish State. All the zealots whining here should remember that liberal and progressive Jews built Israel and Israel's survival rests on their shoulders, not self-absorbed zealots.

Those who hate gays and write some of these talk backs won't hate them when they see those gay tourist shekels coming at them from the thousands of gay tourists this positive P.R. about Israel will engender. Wherever WE trendy GAYS go, the STRAIGHTS follow. Stop biting the hand that will help feed you.

Do you not have a problem with the fact that gays are often executed in Iran? And doesn't execution seem like a rather severe penalty for being an "anomaly" as you so indelicately put it? Not only that, but if you can find it in your heart to praise a religion that would carry out such barbaric acts, that probably says more about you than it does about homosexuals.

When your primeministers daughter is an admited lesbian living with a female partner in Tel Aviv then is it any wonder that the city has fallen in love with homosexuality?
