1. Armenians and Jews
Benny Kochair ,   Denver   (03.26.08)
Natural allies in the larger ME region, like Kurds. Who cares about Turkey, their government may be ok with Israel, but their people are pro-Palestinian anyway. The Turkish government is immoral, and it is time for Israel to become a light unto the nations again....
2. "Turkey's objection to the matter"
Jake   (03.27.08)
should be the last reason for Israel to make a decision on this issue one way or the other. Turkey's government, politicians, and media frequently make blistering condemnations of Israel, using words like "ethnic cleansing", "genocide", and "state terrorism". Also, Turkey trying to link the US Senate commitee bill recognizing the Armenian genocide to relations with Israel was profoundly uncool.
3. SO Turkey REFUSED helping your ATTACK at IRAN next month!!!
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (03.27.08)
So Dick Chenny get a boot from Turkish Government and you play your ever green truimp card HA HA HAHA GO ahead Please PASS it in your knessnet I DECLARE HERE THERE IS NO ARMENIAN LOBBY IN USA ALL IS CONSPIRARCY OF ZIONIST IN USA CONGRESS AND ANY TURKISH WHO PLAY THE GAME OF MEDIATOR FOR STOPPING YOUR ARMANIAN MOVE IS A TRAITOR AND ISRAILI SPY It is enough your using poor Armenians in USA and elswere as a tool, each time a mediator(A TREATOR and an agent of ISRAEL) offers help and refer to "our saivor " ISRAEL to prevent passing ARMENIAN massacre lies in US Congress in exchange of yielding to ISRAEL ARMENIAN DO GET FOOL YOUR DESPERATE SITUATION WAS PLANNED AND STAGED BY ZIONISTS IN 1905-1915 FOR FOUNDING ISRAEL
4. The Turks are the ones who need to talk
Michael Yehudian ,   Los Angeles   (03.27.08)
about the Armenian genocide and acknowledge it. The Jewish speople stand in support of the Armenians and are deeply saddened about what happened to the in the 20th century. The Knesset is doing the right thing by lending its support.
5. There is nothing to debate
Yoav   (03.27.08)
The Armenian genocide (along with the genocide of the Assyrians) are historical facts attested to. Admitting to that will not cause Turkey to collapse or disappear. In fact, it will show that Turkey is mature enough to face its history and own up to its past deeds. And we as Jews should be the first to recognize and acknowledge what the Armenians endured. We know too well what it is like to live as a minority at the mercy of other nations.
6. Yes, there was genocide
Damir ,   Russia   (03.27.08)
7. It's Holocaust-Denial if You Don't
Thomas   (03.27.08)
recognize the Armenian genocide. Since the Turkish prime minister accused the Jews of starting the Crusades, I see no reason to spare them the actual truth.
8. Why dont they discuss the Palestinian genocide?
(03.27.08)
9. I agree #8

Jake,Greece is the biggest supporter og palestinians, you president was the biggest friend of terrorist Arafat, all those years while you were kissing Arabs's ass Turkey support Israel. face it!
12. Tayfun
Pare   (03.28.08)
Tayfun stop it,i understand you are angry but Turkish-Israeli relations are much stronger than you think.
13. Stop acting! Recognize it or not!
Turkish ,   Turkiye   (03.31.08)
However, recognition of so-called genocide is going to make Turkey a second Iran for Israel. No one and nothing will be able to prevent public opposition including previous pro-israeli society at this time. Turkey loses nothing, but Israel will lose. No need to count them one by one. It's your choice.
14. What about hundred thousands of slaughtered Turkish people?

15. This is not a wise decision
Rachel Salomon ,   Beersheva, Israel   (04.29.08)
I don't think that this is a wise decision at all. In fact, it is a very stupid idea proposed by Meretz. I really hope that it does not pass the Knesset and the wisdom of Tzippi Livni prevails on this topic. Turkey is Israel's only true ally in this region. Syria and Lebanon and Iran are sworn enemies. We have cold peace with Egypt and Jordan. Only the Turks help us out when we ask for help. Turkey rescued many Jews from the Spanish Inquisition and saved more Jewish lives during the Holocaust than any neutral country. It is true that Erdogan has done some things to irritate Israelis and we have done some things to irritate the Turks, but these are just speed bumps in an overall beneficial relationship. Why destroy it over something that may or may not have happened in 1492? Bernard Lewis, Guenter Lewey, and Stanford Shaw, all Jewish scholars on Turkey, claim that it was not genocide. I think people need to read both sides before making a judgement. Reading Gunter Lewey's Armenian Massacres in Ottoman Turkey: A Disputed Genocide is a good start.
16. Should the Knesset debate Armenian Genocide
Mark Meirowitz ,   New York City   (04.30.10)
This proposal to debate the issue of whether there was a "genocide" in Armenia in the Knesset is completely misguided. With all of the issues and tensions between Israel and Turkey, why in the world is it necessary for this incendiary issue to be debated in the Knesset. And by the way, is Israel the arbiter of every atrocity in the world with the authority of labelling what is and what is not a genocide -- I don't think so. The Shoah was a genocide that is for certain. As for all of the other atrocities in the world, it is debatable whether these are "genocide" or not -- that is for historians to decide not Israeli politicians in the Knesset (and by the way on Armenia the historians are divided and this is an extraordinarily complex issue - Bernard Lewis, the world-class middle east scholar has said that Armenia was not a genocide). What complete foolishness is this idea and I hope and pray that the Prime Minister and the government act quickly to take this issue out of the Knesset. Israel and Turkey need to try to settle their differences, which admittedly will require patience on both sides -- but to start debating the most emotional issue for Turks in the Israeli Knesset is absolutely, totally ridiculous. Please come to your senses -- and Bibi Netanyahu -- please act quickly to avoid another huge blowup between Turkey and Israel. Did Israel need the "sofa" business with the Turkish ambassador? That was ridiculous. And now Armenia -- to add salt to these wounds. There are protocols between Turkey and Armenia and one provision or those is a historical commission to investigate the events in Armenia --let the historians do their task and keep this issue out of the political arena, out of the Knesset - PLEASE!!
17. listen to yourself
arnault ,   paris, france   (05.01.10)
Rachel, Mark Meirowitz Listen to yourself. Replace the words "armenian" with "jewish", and "turkey" with "germany" (or "russia" with its previous pogroms) in what you said, and you will see with full horror that what you say is precisely the position that made Shoah possible. There is no excuse for your "realpolitik" advocacy -- after all, the "realpolitik" is the german word for the games the europeans were playing with the nazis that ultimately ended with Munich capitulation and costed Jews so dearly. Do you really dare to call a similar fate on someone else or even yourself again?? There is never one victim for a serial killer. By playing realpolitic with him, you are ensuring the growing list of those marked by him. And it won't even keep you from the list either...
