I remember a few years ago flying into Amsterdam's Shippol airport and seeing guards armed with assault rifles to meet El AL Passengers, and when we left the same thing in reverse as well as seeing armed guards outside the plane as we were loading, I felt safe and secure! I think all nation's airports should have this protection for all airlines especially those airports in countries where terrorists have an easier time getting into. Remember the 9 11 terrorists did not target Israeli airlines but American ones,and the hijackings of the 70's and 80's also were of non Israeli planes,so this added security should be afforded to all airlines flying out of countries like Turkey.Egypt,Cyprus etc. The terrorists want to kill everyone not just the Israelis or Jews from other countries!

While I fully understand the reason for their presence and appreciate the fact that local police are willing to guard El Al passengers, it's a shame that in this world you have to have armed protection just to check in to certain flights.

Such a mystery - what could Israel possibly be doing that provokes all this hatred? You don't suppose it could be something to do with occupying other peoples' land and stealing their water could it?

We are not allowed keyring size pocket knives or even nail files or on some airlines which is more about knee jerk reactions rather than stopping any serious threat but we still serve duty free bottle of alcahol both onboard the flight and in the duty free stores. A broken glass bottle can be a very effective weapon. Foreign aviation bodies may not have yet licensed missle deflecting systems but surley Israels aviation bodies could be ordered by the government to aproove of such systems that way at least while in Israeli territory where the main threat is the planes can be defended. The airlines need to be given authrosation to protect themselves before a terrorist does get lucky and other security issues need to be addresed, Also instead of shaking hands with Abbas and reducing security in certain areas in the interest of the so called peace process why doesnt Olmert stop trying to be politcly correct and so ordering the end of profiling at airports. What a baldfaced lie stating that a defense system has not been approved. It has been approved by other countries also.
