2. So where are the parents protesting the ex-Soviet "burden"?
Oh, right - those folks would NEVER consider enrolling in a school dedicated to the ways of Judaism.

3. State Should Remove Public Funding for Racist Schools
The simple solution is to simply remove pulic funding from these schools if they use a students race as a factor in admittance. Private schools are private and can make their own rules, but publicly funded schools must be color blind and open to all students.

4. Anti-Semitism at its ugliest
There is no difference between this anti-Semitism or any exhibited by the arabs. It does not matter if Black, White, Indian Chinese or whatever, A JEW IS A JEW and has the right to open access. The ones opposed to the Ethiopeans are the same ones supporting Olmert's fantasy of sacrificing us to the enemy

5. haredim vs Jews
When was the last time the Haredi rabbis allowed their 'students' to volunteer for military duties. Those of Ethiopean serve proudly and honourably - and voluntarily!

6. #1
I dont think it was meant in a mean-spirited way. Their main point was, if there are 300 Ethiopian kids being funneled into 3 schools instead of 30, I can understand how resources might be stretched and this can cause a 'burden'. They should be welcomed everywhere. I live in NYC and have some Israeli Ethiopian friends. They're great...I love all my Jewish brothers and sisters and treat them accordingly. So should the school district.

8. #6 This was part of an agreement with the Rabbis
The Rabbis agreed to recognize the Ethiopians as Jews as long as they were sent only to religious schools. This is not a very well known fact, these days, unfortunately.
But that's beside the point. The real point here is that nobody protests the burden of too many Ashkenazi students, only the Ethiopians seem to be a burdern. These schools are now going to have to deal with the ugly political behavior of the Rabbis in the past, whether they like having black students or not (And don't delude yourself, in the end this is what it comes down to).

9. The Ethiopians, Schooling & Integration
Since they have made through to Israel as Jews, they should have access to the public schools in the area where they reside.
Simply put, Israel cannot afford for the Ethipians already in the country to become an underclass in the same way that the Black Americans have become over the course of that country's history. And since the Ethiopians came to Israel as Jews, they should be treated accordingly and integrated fully into the society.

11. This is not a nice thing to do to these children
How do these children feel amidst this argument, does anyone care? I suppose that being religious means being bigoted, mean spirited and lacking compassion. Perhaps Israel needs more secular schools.

12. 2, 5th gen: The Russian ex-patriots would have to give up
eating pork morning noon and night...or at least at lunch, to go to Jewish religious schools. You are right. No problem with ex-pat Russians going to the schools since they are mostly pretend Jews or have forgotten what Judaism is about. I met Russian immigrants in Israel who had no idea what the Bible was about, having never read it or gone to religious instruction in Judaism. Now, the Africans want to be Jewish and even go to Jewish religious school and not eat pork, it appears. Are the Russians in Israel pre-positioned troops? They do not seem to want to fit in, beating up Rabbis and Jewish looking students, refusing to read the Bible and learn about their genetic heritage, and eating pork...with milk, even.

13. 3 Mr. Know-it-all: If funding for racist schools was with
held in America, most of the public universities and colleges and junior colleges would shut down since they discriminate against White people under Affirmative Action laws. No one care when my niece was told by racist Fresno State University in California she could not be admitted to the nursing school because she was white. The few chairs in the class for Whites had been filled and the rest would go unfilled unless people with Hispanic last names or brown or black or yellow or red skin applied. Why don't you attack the racism in America which is worse than in Israel at the college level.
