Carter can't be fooled    Dror Etkes
1. Carter can't be fooled
I actually enjoyed reading the article however to call Israel's willingness to relinquish control over the west bank "less than genuine" is misleading and inaccurate. In the same fashion as S.Lebanon and Gaza...if the palestinians had not used terror as a negotiations tool, then I truly believe that a Palestinian state would already have been established.
Gabriel ,   San Francisco USA   (04.16.08)
2. Dror Etkes must have lost..........
his mind somewhere and hasn't found it. Basically, his article was a replay of the Palestinian and leftist Israeli socialist narrative. According to this whack job, Palestinians have been required to"remain silently and behave politely". Really? Tell that nonsense to the relatives of the thousands of Israelis killed or maimed by Palestinian terrorism about how quiet and well-behaved the Palestinians have been. Tell that to Bill Clinton who offered Arafat the sweetest possible deal and Arafat, with Carter's blessing, rejected it and began his vicious terrorist war. Thus, its no wonder that Etkes loves Carter. Etkes is a self-hater and Carter is a Jew-hater. I am surprised that YNET would print an article that so deliberately twisted facts. What's next, a story about the virtues of Holocaust denial?
Ignatious Mucklefutz ,   Fargo ND   (04.16.08)
3. Carter
Carter Is Anti Israel and Anti-Semitic. Only one who can not read would call him friend or a fool. Arafat is his hero! Israelis and Jews are anti peace according to him.
Rafi   (04.16.08)
4. Carter...
Pres. Carter is a disgrace to the United States!! It is easy to tell how much he hates Israel and loves Hamas!! If we are lucky maybe he will stay there.
Chris ,   Va, USA   (04.16.08)
5. Etkes pretends the conflict started in 67 after the war
Lyle Feldowitz ,   NJ USA   (04.16.08)
6. Then we are fool. He does what he wants
Let’s not forget that with his desire to meet Hamas leaders Carter completely ignores decision made by the Western Countries to boycott Gaza while in Hamas power. He disregards rear unity achievement and tries to turn the political wheel. Is he more then US, UK, France, Germany and other world leading societies? Why can’t he be stopped? At the other hand, he just recently visited Sderot and said that attacks on civilians are a crime. Maybe he meant civilians in Darfur, and we misunderstood him? Because he is meeting with the murderers right the same day after he was touring the embattled city.
Anna ,   Montreal, Canada   (04.16.08)
7. Carter
how many jews live in Ramallah, Jordan, Gaza, ? and what is the " the monthly quota of Palestinian casualties" you assert , and your source of information for that? "He realizes that a system that institutionalizes physical, political, and legal separation between different population groups residing in the same territory and gravely undermines the human rights of millions of Palestinians is a type of apartheid."
Dan ,   US   (04.16.08)
8. The reality Israelis want to forget
Israelis have been trying to forget that the 67 war was just another in a long series of Arab attempts to destroy them. So long as they remember this peace is only achievable through war and a lot of death. But if the Arabs were always the good guys and we were the bad guy then all we have to do is repent and give the Arabs what they want and peace will come, now isn't that much nicer? By the way it should also be noted that Israelis equally like to forget their own actions during the War of Indpendence (and by 'actions' I mean burning entire Palestinian villages and driving out thier inhabitants). that was what it took to give Israel a chance to get off the ground; it is a refelction of the fact that we are surrounded by enemies and that in order just to survive we have to do reprehensible things, and if we want to be safe we have to do even more reprehensible things like expulsion and annexation. But so long as we forget these facts peace is always possible if we just follow Carter's doctrine of self-hatred and concessions.

9. CARTER AND ARAFAT RECEIVED MILLIONS OF DOLLARS
FROM ARAB COUNTRIES THAT DO NOT RESPECT HUMAN RIGHTS (WOMEN ARE HUMANS TOO!) AND THEN THEY TALK ABOUT HUMAN RIGHTS. ONE WORD FOR HIM: HUDSPA!!!

10. R.U. NUTS?!
Carter has proven himself anti semitic time after time!

11. Carter can't be fooled,really?
There is a fantastic Cox&Forkum cartoon headed "Jimmy Carter Continues His Love Affair With Hamas" It shows Jimmy Carter standing with his Hamas mates singing. "ALL WE ARE SAYING IS GIVE JEW-HATING MURDERERS A CHANCE". WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL CARTER THAT HE'S NO LONGER PRESIDENT.
YSL ,   Jerusalem   (04.16.08)
12. That is right Carter can't be fooled
Carter can't accept his failure as president. After all he was a hick peanut farmer from the South. He died of a thousand cuts while in office. Feeling victimized,he's seeking redemption, stumbling in whatever contrarian direction he thinks grace may be found. Carter"s extremely problematic relationship with Israel is based on guilt and projection, made worse perhaps by the initial stages of senility.
YSL ,   Jerusalem   (04.16.08)
13. Palestinian Apartheid
Carter writes that Israel is an Aparthid state yet totally ignores the fact that the Palis insist on a state that is free of Jews while Israel is not allowed to be Pali free its Arab citizens. It is the Palis that want Apartheid, not the Israelis.
David ,   USA   (04.16.08)
14. #2
"thousands of Israelis killed or maimed by Palestinian terrorism. Your grasp of reality is clearly very flimsy. Hiding behind a stupid and childish made-up name only makes it even clearer.

16. I'm still wondering which is more dangerous for our survival
The left wingers writing articles like this who will only be happy after our demise? or the carter/hamas/hitler alliance? or the olmert/livni/tibi/hitler alliance? All have the same goals, just under different masks!

20. To Dror Etkes
“People like Jimmy Carter who present both Israelis and Palestinians with the true choices available to them and the true implications of their deeds are those who contribute to the creation of a local political culture that is hinged on facts, rather than religious and nationalistic fantasy.” The fact is Mr. Carter doesn’t have choices for the Israelis. Well, there is only one choice: leave the land. I didn’t hear anything constructive from him. He never puts any weight of responsibly on Arabs. So how can Israelis endorse his contributions for a local political culture as he puts the nails into the Israeli political machine wheels? “…Today, with the number of settlers growing nearly a hundredfold and approaching 300,000, Carter continues to tour the West Bank with greater frequency than most local politicians. He realizes that a system that institutionalizes physical, political, and legal separation between different population groups residing in the same territory and gravely undermines the human rights of millions of Palestinians is a type of apartheid.” Really? And Arab population isn’t having any growth? I would ask you to imaging Judea and Samaria, and also Gaza having a normal leadership like in any third world developing country. Apartheid State never builds Universities for the minority. Apartheid State never gives the minority to be a part of the government. Today Israel is still at war with her neighbors. And that is only one reasonable explanation for the unfortunate mistreatment and hardship of Arab population in the region at their own mostly hands.
Anna ,   Montreal, Canada   (04.16.08)
21. Some fools LOVE to be fooled.
Glaringly obvious is the self delusion of Adon Etkes, who after all these years and a diet rich in leftist deception, is still able to attempt tepid CPR for the fialed ideas and core beliefs of the left that the alleged Palestinians *can*be talked to. His selection of Jimmy Carter as a praiseworthy figure; a person detested for his poor governance and pig headed incompetentce in his home nation and determined to gain such universal recognition the world over(at least from Jews) is more than passing strange. Oh well. One makes personnel selections from the crop offered, and Carter's sour political stench and total uselessness places him at the top of the offered basket of socialist nobodies.

22. Bravo,Dror Etkes!
Bravo, Dror Etkes! Apartheid - bad Judenrein - good Now we got some clear, defined goal.

23. Carter
Carter did not bring peace to Israel by having Israel return " all " of sinai without providing a land swap between Israel and Egypt for the Palestinians to have more land for them instead at Gaza . While Israel was hoping that giving " everhing" wuld lead to no more requests - instead Carter was thinking they gave " eveything" now they should give more. Carter at camp David agreed with Begin and Sadat the Palestinians should have autonomy - not a state . Israel was suckered by this fake when he supported Palestinian statehood " after" Israel made all the concessions. The Jews were fools and sold their homeland at American advise . She should remember they also sold out Viet Nam.

25. Dror Etkin on Carter Vtsit
It seems as if Etkin shares the same perverted value system as Carter. The undeniable truths are that Israelis are the victims here and that concept of injustices are a double edged sword not only reserved only for the freeky left.
Danny Kahan ,   Ra'anana   (04.16.08)
26. Know about the person you write
I wish Mr. Etkes would've done his homework first. Not only was Carter one of the worst presidents of the United States due to his domestic policies, he is also totally nuts. Sir, have you actually read his "apartheid" book, where he blames failure of every peace process on the Israelis and is extremely lenient towards the Palesitnians? Besides the fact he says he's been talking to Hamas terrorists for years... For once, Olmert and others did right thing for not meeting him, as Carter's disgraceful stance towards Israel hurt the state greatly. Sir, read his book "Palestine: Peace not Apartheid" and get the point. Carter doesn't like Israel.
Jonathan Boyko ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.16.08)
27. who is this etkes anyway?
He makes at least 2 big mistakes in his article. 1) Carter is not so important in the world,a nd the US gvernment condemned his mission to meet teror leaders. 2) The "west bank" was not simply a land which Israel decided to occupy and settle. Israel had no choice, other thna to be destroyed by its enemies in 1967, or to fight to defend itself. The historical lands of Judea, and Samria, which were Israelit/Jewish lands, wer liberated in that war. Ironicaly, israel faces the same exact chocies today. To surrender land to murderers (PLO,Hamas, Hizbollo, Iran) and face destruction, or to fight for its existence.

28. CARTER CAN,T BE FOOLED AS HE ALREADY IS ONE
Poor old Jimmy. He is another one who desperately wants to be loved by the majority and is prepared to pull down his trousers for the leaders of despotic regimes worldwide.Carter should shove his missions where his brother shoves his peanuts. He is a tiresome old man who has no grip on current affairs,an apolegist for Arab anti semitism and Islamic world domination. His friend Arafat who managed to syphon off more aid money than the worst African despot even recieved flowers from the second hand peanut salesman.Bye Bye Jimmy, don,t hurry back !!
Lou Knee ,   London UK   (04.16.08)
29. Got it backwards: Israelis can't be fooled
Carter got it oh-so-wrong when he helped spread the Palestinian propaganda lie that Israel=apartheid. There is almost no comparison between the situation here and the situation in old South Africa. Carter has done the peace process a big disservice by cowtowing to Palestinian media spin and taken the politically incorrect stance. Etkes is yet another lefty who can't figure out why there's nobody coming to his parties. The left wing is doing a better job on itself than Sharon did on Arafat - making themselves irrelevant. After 40 years, Israel's best friend is still the United States, but Etkes seems to forget that Carter hasn't been president there for several decades. Let's see if Carter really doesn't present the Palestinians with the true choices available to them. Can he look Hamas in the face and tell them they have to stop killing civilians and make a peace treaty with Israel? Sorry, Etkes, but Carter is no magician and it ain't gonna happen. And no, we are not an apartheid state either and we don't like liars who say we are. That's the big reason we can't stand Carter.
JPS ,   Efrat   (04.16.08)
30. Etkes and Carter are Hamas allies
If you believe that Hamas' agenda is compatible with your stance on Zionism then you want to bring them into the "solution". On the other hand if you oppose their genocidal and racist ideology you want nothing to with them or their allies.
