US Jewish leaders call for boycott of Beijing Olympics    Associated Press
1. Good idea.
Alex   (04.30.08)
2. Liberal idiots. They certainly don't speak for me.
So many times, we have seen these anti-Israel demonstrations abroad, every time an Israeli team was playing, as well as Arab athletes not wanting to compete against Israeli athletes. Or heard of musicians not wanting to perform here, because of political reasons. And we have rightfully argued to convince the entire world, that sports and music, should not be mixed with politics, as these represent all the good things in the human spirit, which are clearly above politics. Now comes this group of bleeding-heart liberal idiots, and in their pretension to speak for all of us Jews - they completely undo all of our efforts. Just like what happens in Gaza (which may or may not be Israel's or the Palestinians' fault - a controvercial issue), should absolutely not affect Israeli athletes - what happens in Tibet, should similarly not affect Chinese athletes, and the entire Olympics for that matter. If you want to educate China, do so by speaking out, and acting against their government. Killing the sport spirit, and the career of thousands of athletes all over the world, is not the answer. But then again, bleeding-heart idiocy has long since been a trademark of our people, so I'm not really surprised.

3. if they are so worried about human rights violations...
then they should be worrying about their own country (israel or US) they can take their pick with respect to the palestinians and the iraqis, afghanistanis, somalis, columbians, egyptians, jordanians, pakistanis, lebanese.... since when did jewish leaders ever care about tibet? the "ties with iran and syria" that makes more sense there though peculiar that its mentioned last.

4. Who elected them "Jewish leaders"?
Are they like the same leaders that kept silent during the Holocaust? But put their asses on the line for blacks to sit at the lunch counter at Woolworth's? Let them fight for the survival of Israel and to take the political pressure off us. Let them pust for Pollard's release. Let them push for Israel to buy F-22s. Let them fight against the surrender policies of the olmert gang. Let them fight against the palis receiving weapons and ammo from olmert and his stooges.Let them fight for a united capitol of Jerusalem and our liberated terriitories under Israel. When everything is okay for all Jews, then we can worry about Tibet,Darfur, ect.

Look who is talking!!!!!

6. This is what these overpaid dumbwads are concerned about?
aL   (04.30.08)
7. Not A Jewish Issue
There is no need for rabbis or so-called Jewish leaders to express an opinion on the Olympic games. If a bunch of Goyim like to bounce around in their underwear, that's their business.

9. Stupid move make more enemies.
Stupid move make more enemies.

10. boycott these jewish ' leaders'
they invite others to boycott israel either for tolerating terrorism as with the PA or fighting terrorism with real weapons as with hamas---boycotts should be very few and far between; they can boomerang!
elliot ,   point roberts,usa   (05.01.08)
11. I would sign such a petition
The same way it has been made public to the world about Islam's genocide in Darfur thanks to the Jewish American Lobby, so could the world aquire some awareness about the brutallity going on in China also through the Jewish lobby. Some of which include underground concentration camps designed to harverst organs from inmates. Who are these inmates? Thousans of individuals including children, whose only crime was to look for some spiritual venues. The list goes on, I just want to make the point that a global event such as the olympic games is more than a bunch athletes in bathing suits bouncing to compete for a medal. Sports, is the tip of the iceberg, lets see the broader picture and use it. And I also think it is a deep Jewish / Israeli issue to mind others' business. Specifically if we talk about persecution and genocide. Now, today after more than 60 years passed since the last Holocaust - we all still ask the same question - How could the world stand silent ?????????? I ask other talkbakers - How could *you* stay silent ???????????

12. Jumping on the band wagon
I wonder how many of these boycotters actual know any of the history of China / Tibet (names dates, people places and events). Or is it just information that they had spun to them though the mass anti-communist media that they were raised under? We as Jews know what it's like to be judged this way. Why do some of us never learn? The Olympics is not the right platform for this. The olymics is ment to bring people together in peace, even if only for a short time. If we aren't willing to play together, how can we expect to live together?

13. Boycott? So misguided and misguiding
1. This is the game for all Chinese and all others, not for Chinese gov. Do not forget that many Chinese saved many Jewish lives. Wrong payback. 2. Chinese love Tibetans. All budgets (schools, temples and roads) have been doubled each year since 1990. No “one-child” policy is applied in that region. You can see monks’ complaints from cameras. The fact itself shows religious tolerance there. I know Chinese Gov has long way to go to improve all political conditions there 3. Some Tibetans (or organizations) conducted violence at a chosen time. Their activities were well funded (you know it, I know it). Violence hurts entire the nation deeply. I know all Jewish leaders condemn Hamas for its violent behavior. Hello, wake up. Where are your principles now? Chinese never buy any hypercritics. 4. China set up relationship with Iran and Syria long before with Israel. Nothing wrong with that. China never supports these two countries against Israel. To the contrary, China helps (sometimes under Israel’s request) mediation when necessary. 5. If we believe China has stronger influence on Sudan than US, we should visit brain doctor offices. All Chinese gov did is to convince Sudan to let peacekeepers get in Darfur area. This is not too much. But any country did anything? Overall, I strongly disagree what these leaders have proposed regarding boycott. It send wrong message to Chinese people that all Jews do not support this game that all Chinese have worked so hard for last eight years.

It's hard because the Chinese government says some people who don't have correct religious beliefs aren't allowed into Olympics. So not all.
Marilyn ,   USA   (05.01.08)
15. Don't forget what they are doing to animals
For instance, skinning thousands of them alive each year in their fur farms, and annihilating tigers and rhinos for "medicine", that is, to help them get their ridiculous little manhood up.
Jack ,   Milwaukee   (05.02.08)
16. Inaccurate.
It is against Olympic game rules. The committee does not allow this to happen. There are enough churchs, mosques, and cathedrals. There are a couple of newly built churchs in the olympic village. Beijing also provides Kosher foods. One religion (Gov views it as a colt) might have a problem is Fa-Lun-Gong. But I am not sure how the Gov handle this case. One of my friends is the member of Fa-Lun-Gong. She will travel there during the game.
A Chinese ,   NY-NJ   (05.02.08)
17. I am with you. But
This is not an issue that leaders concerned. I agree with you. So does Chinese Gov (very few instance I agree with them). You would get a death sentence for killing a panda. But long long chinese medicine culture makes this issue very hard to resolve. Tiger bones and bear foots are extremely effective medicine. I have urged western scientists to study this type of medicine so that we can produce them without killing tigers and bears,

These are the reports we are hearing. Also that many categories of people are on the watch lists. When people go to Olympic games they want to know that the freedoms that they have in their home countries are in effect & that they'll have the freedom of expression and freedom of religion, etc. Not just for them but for everyone. Lastly people want real religion.
Marilyn ,   USA   (05.03.08)

I am pretty sure that Chinese Gov won't stop any activities for pure religion purpose unless inclusion of other political mission (especially about Tibet, Uhgur and Taiwan). Most Chinese (including some party bosses) are Buddhists who do not prefer to suppressing other religions, no matter how small they are. The best way to understand the Gov's behavior is to travel to china (do not just read reports). You will get very different (good or bad) feeling.

20. rabbis and china boycott
the forced abortions and slave labor in china have always been cause to boycott them but these liberal rabbis neede a liberal cause-tibet-before they speak up---ignore them as they ignored the moral issues all along!
