B. Michael raises profound moral questions, but the answers he provides are less than profound, and are actually rather simplistic. Questions he leaves unaddressed include the following: Of the 1000 Palestinian children killed in the conflict, how many were combatants, how many non-combatants? Does B. Michael forget that Hamas recruits children as young as 12 to be suicide bombers? And uses children to gather Qassam rocket launchers after they are fired, knowing full well that after a Qassam launch Israel will strike the area of the launch? Is a 14 y. o. child throwing a molotov cocktail, or firing a rifle, a "child" or a combatant? Where is B. Michael's condemnation of Hamas for recruitng children for war? If Islamist terrorists are willing to place sleeping babies in cars loaded with explosvies to fool U.S. soldiers into thinking the car is harmless, then blows up the car with the soldiers, baby and all, is it not also plausible that the Islamist terrorists of Hamas or Islamic Jihad would also use children in such a murderously callous manner? The awful tragedy of this conflict is the deaths of children. I do wish Israel would take more care, and admit more responsibility, for those non-combatant children killed in the crossfire. Israel should indeed be held to account for such tragic and in most instances preventable deaths. Yet, those such as B. Michael and his supporters in this talk back who ignore, or dismiss, the questions I pose are themselves guilty of a kind of selective and flawed morality, and a perverse sort of demogoguery.

I am sickened by how many of the posters seem to have no problem with killing Palestinian kids. Shame on all of them. You blame Hamas but do not ever lay blame on the 40 year brutal occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. Gaza, BTW, is now the world's largest outdoor prison and the prisoners are not happy with their jailers. It is past time that those who justify the murder of Palestinian kids because of Hamas should understand that were there no occupation there would be no Hamas which was born as a resistance movement. The Palestinians have every right in the world to resist the occupation and the theft of their lands and water resources. Israel must get out of the territories lock, stock and barrel.
