I am a Corpsman (HM2) (if you didn't know Corpsman are the Marines Medic and served in Iraq in 2003-2005) as a matter of fact; I served 5 years active duty now I am active reserve. How on Earth could Israel really defeat Iran with a conventional attack? You'd have to go through Syria and Iraq first, and the only way to do that quickly and efficiently would be to pretty much shoot everyone and everything in your path whether dressed as civilians or otherwise. Sneaking a few dozen bombers across Syria all the way to Iran won't cause more than a scratch, and Iran's most sensitive facilities are too far underground for anything short of a nuclear warhead or a ground force to touch them. Plus you'd be taking a great risk of losing expensive planes and pilots. A conventional missile bombardment wouldn't even be worth the cost of the missiles in terms of their effectiveness. Worst of all, Israel would lose virtually all of its remaining international support, and that would be devastating to the country. Using nukes in an offensive role would bring about something even worse. Israel is as strong as ever, and if Iran were right next door it might be a completely different story. But from your location on the map, attacking Iran is about as practical as bombing the North Pole. Focus on your missile defences and sanctions- that's where your best shot lies, and Iran fears both possibilities immensely.
