Hamas bans pornographic websites in Gaza Strip    Reuters
1. Halevai (if only) Israel would do that too
or would it go against Israel's "democracy" (which they don't even have) or against “free speech” or against “do-whatever-you-want” to ban filthy websites?
Miriam ,   Israel   (05.19.08)
2. Pornless in Gaza
Perhaps Hamas has finally gone too far and now the residents of Gaza will throw the bastards out. "You can take away our civil rights, our economy, our future and our children, but KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OUR PORN!"
Ruth ,   San Diego CA USA   (05.19.08)
3. but suicide bombings on buses and in restaurants are allowed
dave ,   uk   (05.19.08)
4. Don't want those Paletinian boys
to think that they could actually have virgins, or even whores without having to blow themselves up murdering innocent civilians. Can't have them ease their frustrations with a little self pleasure. Now can we?
J. Russell ,   Houston, TX   (05.19.08)
5. such a nice decision

6. R they serious!
"Islamic group decides to 'protect Palestinian community from cultural pollution!" that's very funny considering they preach death to infidels, death to the Jews, death to there own people(suicide homicide bombers) cut off childrens fingers if they steal food, honor killings and so on! porn shpuld be the least of their cult-ural problems!!!
jerome ,   Basalt, Colorado   (05.19.08)

10. life is hard enough in gaza
and now they ban porn on top of that ;-) communism at it's best!
(05.19.08)
11. It is not practicably possible to block porn sites.
How may more times do we have to hear this nonsense? It doesn't matter if technically the blocking of the sites can be done because it can't practically be done. Posters like #1 have no understanding of how the Internet works. Like everything in life, the web has a good side and a bad side. There are over 2 billion websites on the web and most of them are changing and being updated by the hour. Who is going to check them not just once ever 50 years but every hour? Someone checks a site and labels it 'clean' and an hour later it contains something different. What would be the criteria? A breast, a shoulder, or what! It costs less than $10 a year to register a domain so even if a site gets 'banned' it can be back within 2 days and not not be checked for 50 years. Why does Google say it is not responsible for what people have on their sites? Hopefully readers will understand the futility of this whole debate and that we will not hear more about Israel (which is full of high tech people that no the futility of this) "planning' similar nonsense. People don't have to visit porn sites, or gambling sites etc. which is wonderful. Mike

12. NO COMPARISON AT ALL....#3
Misconceived,Dave.Ethical standards in Islam shouls not be compared with their resistance movement at all.The problem is you are mixing up the two issues in a wrong way7.Well done Gazaians.
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (05.19.08)
13. They have finally gone too far.
Funny, a bunch of mass murdering terrorists upset by porn. I guess the pals will be even more uptight and irritable from now on. I actually feel bad for them now.
jay dog ,   Minneapolis, USA   (05.20.08)
14. HAMAS COMEDY HOUR!! - these guys are so FOS.
The mentality of these low-life is simply staggering. They want to ban 'porn' but everything else they do is OK? Nobody will ever have 'peace' with a rabble like this.
Scott   (05.20.08)
15. Mahmood - there is one problem
It's another example of the lack of free press in Gaza. No matter what happens with Israel, Palestinians will never be free without free press.
Robby ,   San Jose, USA   (05.20.08)
16. Allah be praised
But on the other hand, how are we to know if one is a virgin if we have no "inner knowledge". Without being able to identify the 72 virgins, we cannot ascend to allah's graceful lodging (bedding optional, rooms can be rented by the hour - please bring your own condoms which must carry the seal of the imam) Does not the quran extoll us to view and be open? www.parpar1.com allah akhbar
Mahmood ibn Shmutz ,   Gaza City   (05.20.08)
17. Now 'Gazians' are spokesmen...
for 'Palestininians'.
Ypip ,   Canada   (05.20.08)
18. #12 can't get into heaven with impurities? 1st rule of jihad
why Muslims even make an argument that they want to coexist is beyond me, the worst is that we have an entire party in America running on a platform that believes you actually do
David P. ,   Santa Cruz, USA   (05.20.08)
19. Porn sites are useful for responsible gay adults
Very unfortunate . Doesn't contribute to peace in the region.
Yaakov Sullivan ,   NYC   (05.20.08)
20. # 2
I agree with you. Maybe this will be the straw that breaks Hamas' back. I personally thought that the ban on hair gel several months ago would have the young men in Gaza rioting (seriously--it's like young Palestinians take all of their style cues from GREASE) but maybe this is it.

22. good chance, don't miss it IDF..
..just drop thousands of small rosy parashutes each delivering a set of jucy porn DVDs, signed "a brotherly gift from people of Israel to the oppressed people of Gaza. Make love not war!" ..next day, Hamas will be down.
Alex ,   UK   (05.20.08)
23. Hey ??? !!!!
I can't figure this one out. They have banned porn websites, yet suicide bombers get 72 virgins in heaven ?? UGH ???????????
Poitcha ,   Israel   (05.20.08)
24. Not cool.
Hamas should realize that it doesn't maintain support by imposing its morality on others. It's one thing to fight Israel. It's entirely another to mess with a man's porn. Besides, porn is ammunition in the demographic war! : )

28. question for #12
just curious..... How o the ethical standards of Islam justify blowing up innocent people on public buses? Thanks in advance..... we are all curious to hear you explain islamic ethics. Please don't use the old "occupation" argument. The people on a bus have nothing to do with it.
kutuzov ,   new york   (05.20.08)
29. Hamas bans pornographic websites
Brovo - Now if they could just ban Hate and stop firing qassams
psalms 83 ,   Selah   (05.20.08)
30. As if their lives aren't miserable enough...
This is one more shining example of how Muslims don't understand the western concept of freedom. I remember Hamas banning a music or dance festival recently as well – because it wasn't 'appropriate'. Hamas is truly going to be the downfall of an angry, young population that is reeling from the trauma of its own demise. It's so sad.
