1. A parents responsibility
Simon ,   TA Israel   (05.20.08)
i would have to questions a parents responisibility in raising children in the line of fire. Moving to such a place placing their idiology before the personall safety of their children. Sorry but not for my children. As a parent my self i would never put my children is such a situation, although we all know the dangers of living in Israel.
2. learned to live with the Qassams ?
Marcel ,   Florida   (05.20.08)
The new generation has forgotten the concept of victory and defeating those who seek their extermination. Now they learn to 'live with' with Kasssems for the no peace Road Map to larger and more dealy missiles that thye will learn to die with. All this innocent blood sacrificed for the 'good cause' of fake peacemaker Bush and his Road Map to hell ,and so you loive with it instead of getting rid of the appeasers who abuse you under their rule .
3. I salute these people I really do. I'm in awe of them.
Talula ,   Israel   (05.20.08)
4. The people have more courage than their leaders.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (05.20.08)
5. israeli continuing lies
#23469546564 ,   cyberstan   (05.20.08)
this is like saying 'we dont want peace" world is waking up to israeli lies, this proves your savage arrogant nature and daily murder that goes unnoticed in the west. didnt God curse you too many times? i guess not, it seems the only way to playhere is the hard way buh dont put on victim role when confronted, you jews are renown treacherous rats
6. The entire story of Am Yisrael summed up in 3 words here....
Roscio ,   Rome, Italy   (05.20.08)
"Defying conventional logic" - that says it all. This article shows why we are still here, and why the forces of evil will NEVER prevail. I also am in awe of the emunah of these wonderful people who choose to live in faith and not in fear. I also, as usual, agree with Terry of Eilat - these people have much more courage and morals than the current regime in office in Israel. Terry - as soon as the evil Pharaoh Olmert and his gang are thrown out of power, let's all have the biggest simcha ever celebrated in Sderot! What do you say? :-)
7. For once, I agree with Simon #1
Daniel Breslauer ,   Jerusalem   (05.20.08)
Simon, it doesn't happen very often, but I fully agree with you. According to Judaism, there is no justification at all for placing yourself and others in danger. For this reason, my Rav told me that it is forbidden to ever go to Chevron (Hebron) to visit the Cave of the Patriarchs. It is forbidden for anyone to intentionally place his life in danger, and moving to Gaza-belt communities means doing exactly that.
8. Huh?
Duderino ,   Chapel Hill, USA   (05.20.08)
My understanding is people are leaving places like Sderot in droves. If you don't believe me, just see http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/seth_freedman/2008/01/sderot_beseiged_and_abandoned.html. Maybe this is IDF psyops or something to try and fool the more gullible Israelis (a.k.a. pretty much all of them).
9. Tax breaks
observer ,   Jerusalem   (05.20.08)
"Defying conventional logic..."? I don't know. When I was in Sderot I was told that many apartments and houses that stood empty, actually was rented by people from Tel Aviv and other places, who kept living in their ordinary homes, but were registered as living in Sderot – for tax reasons. Sounds like conventional logic to me.
10. Hashem promised Gaza to the Jews in Gen. chpt.26, & in
miriam ,   migdal, Israel   (05.20.08)
Joshua 15. So no wonder the writer says that those seeking housing are defying human conventional logic. Olmert said not 10 days ago that there is NO biblical claim to Gaza for the Jews so he can do with it whatever he chooses to. He has forgotten his Chumash studies.
11. Duderino
jerry ,   New York   (05.20.08)
It is clear that Duderino did not understand the article. People are leaving Sderot, but coming to the collective communities. Large faceless communities are out and cooperative smaller units are in. His characterization of Israelis as gullible is an ad homenim attack and does not deserve a response. However, I should like to say to the readers and posters here that collective and agricultural communities in Israel represent voluntary associations and thus are another of the major contributions to the civilization of mankind. Duderino would do well to live on a collective before calling such people gullible.
12. #2 You know nothing of having the dream of Hashem planted in
Deborah ,   Israel   (05.20.08)
your heart and standing for it in the face of unsurmountable odds because it's the right thing to do. The heads of this government can NEVER stop this from coming to pass. WE are willing to shed our blood for this to come to pass. YOU however, just criticize us for having the chutzpah to do this while you daily attack us with your verbal qassams. So go run behind the biggest rock that you can find now, and let the true people of the land do what they were called to do. Time for you to sit on the porch now.
13. #5, only lie is Arab wanting peace or a Palestine
David ,   Boston, USA   (05.20.08)
The Arab world has lied for decades that they want peace. They dont even want another Arab Palestinian state. The worse lie is that they were there before Jews. They build on Jewish land. They build on Jewish holy sites. They are invaders, pure and simple. They cant stand the fact they are wrong and cant win. We Jews are very patient people. Live with us in peace or suffer the same fate as all of our enemies over the millenia. NONE have ever survived.
14. #1 and #7, not 100% true
David ,   Boston, USA   (05.20.08)
While in general that is true. Judaism does allow killing and protection. Depends on the circumstances. In general I agree with you, but not completely. As a father I definiately agree with you about my children, but I would put myself in harmsway to protect my children if I lived in Sderot and my kids lived in Jerusalem or somewhere else.
15. Winning the Negev & South
Ann   (05.20.08)
122 families does not make a stampede. Why are there not more residences and places available for more people to move there and housing for the students ?? What about work-jobs, industry .Government stupidity. Privatize construction, loosen ILA .and defeat Hamas already
16. Re: Huh?#8
yak ,   usa   (05.20.08)
I tried your link. It is offline. More significantly it is from the Guardian, which, to put it mildly, does not always have the most truthful or balanced opinion towards Israel.
17. How about the depopulation of Sderot
Avraham ,   NYC   (05.20.08)
With thousands of residents having left and the political leadership keeping the hands of the IDF tied???
18. #6 Roscio, Rome, Italy.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (05.20.08)
Our leaders are defeated, a mental condition, as is a certain segment of our population. They have been brainwashed by philosophies & political ideas, generally European in origin, into being losers. But, luckily, this mental infection has not spread to the majority of the people. "Defying conventional logic" is the 2000 year old history of the Jews in Exile. "Defying conventional logic" is our 60 year old history as an independant sovereign Jewish country. Olmert is but the tip of the iceberg - the rest of the losers & defeatists must be pushed out of positions of authority as well. That's what I say.
19. HAVARD BUSINESS CLUB BOYS AND GAYDAMAK SHOULD
YITZAK BEN SHLOMO ,   SINGAPORE   (05.20.08)
COME UP WITH A HOUSING PROJECT ! PROVIDED THE CONDITION WE ARE NOT DEFAMED AND DRAGGED BY THE POLICE, LIKE OLMERT ! DEAL ? YES/NO ?
20. The Israeli people themselves are thwarting Olmert's plan
Jake   (05.20.08)
to destroy Israel.
21. #13
Jane   (05.20.08)
'NONE has ever survived' I don't know about that, the Germans seem to be doing quite well, as do the Romans, the Russians look to be doing quite well, the Eastern Europeans are in the EU and economies are booming. Or did you have other enemies in mind?
22. #16
Jane   (05.20.08)
The Guradina does contain exceptional reporting. What it doesn't do is report Palestinians as 'terrorists' or claim. erroniously, that all Muslims are 'terrorists' or all arabs are 'liars'.
23. #8, That's a dead issue, just like the link you posted
Jake   (05.20.08)
The only "psyops" are the ones peddled by the Guardian, and only gullible ones are people like you who believe them. Ain't that the truth?
24. Duderino #8
Jake   (05.20.08)
One thing is certain, and that is, you are no dude. I have noticed the way you lob irrational insults, post lies, and engage in unjusitifed unsubstantiated slander, and then cowardly avoid engaging those who exercise the right of reply. It is a mark of cowardice and weakness of character to hide behind the comfort of your computer when carrying on with your nefarious cravenly behavior. But no matter. Israel will survive its enemies, much to your dismay and horror, and your malicious words shall come to nought, rest assured. Take that one to heart.
25. Jane #21
Barak   (05.20.08)
Hmmmm Jane... The Nazi's (not the Germans) do not exist, t he Romans (not the Italians) do not exist, the Russians have lost the Soviet Union, are no longer a super power, is run by a bunch of thugs, and it's population is shrinking every year. As for the Eastern Europeans, you mean Czechoslovakia? or Yugoslavia? which no longer exist.
26. #12 deborah
Marcel ,   Florida   (05.20.08)
Those of Israel who were seduced by smooth lies of a false peace and allow their IDF to be restrained by their messiah Bush because they swooned for his power over and above the power of Hashem. You tell me I assault you with verbal kassem's ? Never again is happening now while you sit on the porch.and allow kapo Olmert to fill up the Road Map cattle cars. I think you love the kassems and that is why you do nothing of stubtance against your leaders for allowing them to continue. The Holy One of Israel gives His people the leaders they deserve. A people who obey Bush and surrender Hashems land for no peace instead of obeying Him will have no peace. Get off the porch and resist the Bolshevik un-Jews who serve the enemies of Hashem instead of submitting to their tyranny.
27. #5 - your post makes no sense ..
redmiike ,   Tel Aviv, London, LA   (05.20.08)
What has families refusing to be driven out of their homes got to do with saying 'we don't want peace'. What lies are you talking about? Seems your bias prevented you from correctly reading the article. A pity. Clear vision is important. Mike
28. #26 You can't play w/the big dogs so stay on the porch&hide!
deborah ,   Israel   (05.20.08)
29. #26 You neither know the Holy One of Israel, nor Hashem!!
josh ,   Israel   (05.20.08)
You are a terrorist in sheeps clothing. Everyone on this website knows that. Gheez, do you really think we can't see through all of your daily verbal vomit you spew at us each day? The only difference between you, the pals, hamas,&hezbollah is just your geographical location!! If you hate us so much, why don't you go post somewhere else? In fact, go post on a terrorsist website. They will hail you as a hero and you will get your daily dose of ego stroking that you seem so badly to need. What a goyim!!
30. I personally know people that bought houses in Sderot
redmiike ,   Tel Aviv, London, LA   (05.20.08)
They bought them a few months ago expecting the prices to rise and it seems that they were right. I am not really in favor of making money from speculating on property but it happens. I also know people that have moved from Ashdod to Sderot and others that visit at the week-ends. Things were harder in '48 and life must have been unbearable at the turn of the century but people built a flourishing country. They were builders and not destroyers. Mike
