Sure, David. Just check out the validity and depth of the arguments posted for and against the case and then let's talk again...I posted my opinion and I stand by it! Your reply is pathetic, really!
32. #24 this is not an opportunity for your Christian propaganda

so buzz off!
33. #31 This is typical of the hijacking of Torah for politics
David ,   Los Angeles   (05.22.08)
I don't know whether, from a Torah point of view, the Rabbi was correct or not. And that is the question. It is a religious question, not a political one. And most of the posters here are talking from the point of view of their politics. You are completely correct. There is no place for nationalism and other political factors here.
34. 32 David: Apparently, you have not read that the Israeli
Rivkah   (05.23.08)
Supreme Court legalized Jews who are Messianic to become Israeli citizens and to aliyah to Israel. They did not have a homeland before that even though they are persecuted as much as atheist Jews like you who have no place in God's land since the promise is not to atheists. You are so stupid you do not know the difference between Messianic Saturday Shabbat Jews and Sunday sabbath Jew hating Christians. I can assure you Messianic Jews are as hated as the Haredim. But you would not know about that, being an atheist, ignorant of the Bible to such an extent, you don't know Yeshua was Jewish and his religion that opened a door of salvation to Gentiles is and was Jewish. But then, the Sunday Christians don't know that either.
35. 30: Deborah was a mother and wife who the Lord
Rivkah   (05.23.08)
gave wisdom and vision to which caused the Lord and the people to want her to be the ruler of ancient Israel. Deborah rose up, as it is written. There are many rulers who are not worthy of the office, but Deborah and the Prophets were worthy of their calling. To call her "dummie" as you have done is equivalent to the many children who called Elijah "thou bald pate" (baldy). The children were judged and all of them were killed by a bear. I suggest you repent and apologize to the Lord.

39. deputy high priest (segan)
Frank ,   London   (05.27.08)
Until the rebuilding of the temple, may it be soon and in our time, the office of the deputy high priest, has been transiently conferred to the military rabbis. The deputy high priest was obliged to march with the army to battle, even if it was on Shabbat. Participating in battles on Shabbat is no desecration of Shabbat, since milchemet mitzva is obviously there to save lives. He doesn't even have to be certain that he saves lives, it is enough that the Torah commands the halachic authority to be there, for it to be understood that such behavior will save lives. The deputy high priest had 3 functions - to confer priestly blessing to the troops, to uphold morale and to mete out halachic judgements, including those involving capital punishment (See Pinchas HaCohen). Selecting the right person for the job was always important - for example Moshe Rabennu specifically selected Pinchas to act as his deputy in the war on the Midianites. Talmud and Torah shebealpeh are well aware of the so called "pious fools" who have no part in the world to come. The most obvious example cited there is a male person who obstains from saving a drowning woman by pulling her out of the water because he's afraid of unseemly contact with the other sex.
