2. We are nowhere near our full potential.
Imagine if we had a functioning gov't. that could tackle the pressing issues facing this country.
Among them would be tax reform, electoral reform, streamlining the labyrinthian bureaucracy, meaningful educational reform, introducing competition into the financial sector, integrating more Haredim into the workforce, eliminating child support, to name just a few.
Instead, our politicians spend their time trying to give away the country.

3. @ Terry
you say: "eliminating child support"
I ask you why? Cause in my opinion thats practically the same thing as giving away the country.
Eliminate the family eliminate the country. Or are you of the opinion that eliminating childsupport will make charedim run out of their yeshivot and will make them having a 3000 shekkel a month job?

6. Baruch - this is under electoral reform terry mentioned!
$ha$ needs to be put in a position where they need to accommodate their positions to the rest of israel, instead of the other way around.

7. Israeli Economy
If the economy is going so well, then answer me this why has the number of bankruptcy proceeding increased 3 fold since the Lebanon summer war? Why are more people waiting on lines at soup kitchens, more people begging for money on the streets of our big cities, more people jumping into the dumpsters behind our local supermarkets? Why are there more homeless people on the streets? Why not tell the people of Israel the real truth that the only people getting wealthy in this country are those with money to begin with, or Politicians from the bribes they take! The average Joe is struggling everyday to survive with his meager paycheck and very high taxes!

8. why Israel's economy is so successful
because it is a shmitta year and therefore it is reality year the rest of the world's economy is related to fate or Newtonion physics which is physical cause and effect but independent of G-d and thus since they are not connected to G-d they revert to nothingness hence the credit crunch and financial meltdown Since Israel and Shmitta are connected to G-d the only true reality which is spiritual cause and effect and not physical cause and effect Quantum mechanics where anything can happen Since Israel' economy is connected to G-D it is doing very well Boruch Hashem

9. Please stop the lies.
There are more people in high tech leaving the country because Israel does not pay well. In Jerusalem, I have friends who are unemployed, homeless and eating at soup kitchens. There may be jobs, but they don't pay much money. The distribution of productive wealth is unfairly distributed.
Israel looks like a third world country. The streets are dirty, the air is polluted, the water is polluted and the land is polluted. Peace and economic prosperity for the average Israeli is light-years away. So don't tell me how great and wonderful everything is.

your comment that peace is far away gives the game away you have your black negative glasses on What has peace got to do with the 5.8% growth rate?Yes there are a lot peolpe unempolyed and that is because they are either unemployable or do not want jobs and as to the pollution that is due in part to the high population density of Israel and scarce water resources and if the streets are dirty it is because taxpayers money is not wasted on unnecessary sanitation as to the unfair distribution of wealth are you suggesting that we take away money from the entrepreneurs or the highly skilled and intelligent ones behind the boom in high tech and give it to people who are lazy and view unemployment as a lifestyle choice? Are you a member of the GREAT UNWASHED who go to the anti war pro Hizbullah pro intifada pro war demonstrations ?

12. fewer foreign workers would help people & the economy
One of the first things we need to do is stop importing foreign labourers from places like Asia and giving thousands of work permits to palestians.
The money these people earn leaves the country either being sent to family back home.
If we stop issuing so many permits to arabs and importing to many people from abroad it will create more jobs.
It may be low pay but somebody who is unemployed and living on handouts its a job which is better than their current situaton. and as the money is recycled in the country rather than leaving it then it will only strenghen the economy.
