yes , go a head and blame it on palastenians for the barbaric act it is done by jewish people.
3. Religion
Sagi ,   Israel   (06.05.08)
is an affliction which can cause people to become insane. Pouring acid on a fellow human being is an act of insanity. I challenge anyone to contest this with logic and not with rhetoric.
4. Jewish Taliban?
Mike ,   USA   (06.05.08)
If the Haredim could have their dream world would they bring back biblical stonings of "impure" women and "rebellious" sons? With stories like these, of a Jewish Taliban, is it any wonder that so many Jewish youth are headed for the exits from religion. In America, Jewish youth(except for the Orthodox) cannot get away fast enough from the "quaint" customs of the "true believers".
5. The person who did this needs jail time.

Look at the stats in Israel and abroad Jewish Youth are looking for meaning Thus you have many Teshuva Yeshivot. Pls dont attribute a crazy act to all orthodox
9. I need 1000 bikini-clad women to march on this town!
David ,   Hartford USA   (06.05.08)
These sick minds need to know that showing skin is not the work of the evil inclination- which Haredi men seem to have in abundance. And NO ONE has given any of them the right to hurt anyone that they disapprove of. Any rabbi that spouts off about proper dress should be sent to Gaza to live with Hamas and the Arabs. The sick guy who threw the acid should be arrested and sent to jail.

12. Horrific!
Ilan ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (06.05.08)
My God - these people are at the level of the worst religious extremists in any part of the world. We need to find and jail the attacker and anyone else associated. More-over we need to ensure EVERY single child in Israel gets an education teaching them to question different interpretations of religion, and eliminate any possibility for supporting such actions. No separate religious schools & no ghettos now we have our own nation!
13. "Modesty Patrol"
NYC Girl   (06.05.08)
When it goes from whining about the loose morals of Israeli women to actually carrying out an horrific physical assault, the line between these Jewish fanatics and the Muslim fanatics in Iran or Afghanistan really begins to blur.
14. Iran?
Medic09   (06.05.08)
So now Betar Illit is in Iran? As a religious person, I sincerely hope that the police spare no effort in bringing this miserable criminal to justice; and I hope he pays a severe penalty l'maan yirau...

This is nothing short of חילול ה׳ chilul hashem! Dragging the name through this shtut שטות and חרא chara, is disturbing and needs to be dealt with firmly and swiftly. That poor young woman. May she recover fully from this tragedy.
17. The Arabs are killing you and you entertain yourselves
Al   (06.05.08)
by posting this drivel. Grow up or die..What is it going to be? I am beginning to believe that the Jews in Israel are like cockroaches caught in a jar....running around and biting eachother in the ass. Pathetic..
18. Moses became so enraged at evil, he killed an Egyptian.
Rivkah   (06.05.08)
He paid for that with forty years of isolation in the desert away from his adopted and Hebrew families when the family of Jethro took him in. Aristotle said the most difficult thing in life is to get angry to the right degree at the right time and for the right reason. If the youth here wanted to do things the old fashioned Bible way, he should have picked up a stone and taken to the girl's nearest male kinsman and asked him to throw the first stone at the actual culprit daughter. Then a discussion could have taken place and the father explain why he should not do that or the girl asking for a chance to dress properly and modestly. If stones are thrown, the first stone has to be thrown by the nearest male kinsman. The girl would lose her father to support her who would go to jail and disown her, probably. When I was a teenager, my widowed grandmother Ruth visited for a few months at a time. When I had outgrown a favorite skirt and tried to wear it to school, she stopped me and told me to change. if I had not listened, she would have gone to my father and he would have backed her up and spanked me if I had not listened. There is a procedure in addressing grievances. The lad took the law into his own hands when he should have asked the girl to go with him to her father to protest the immodesty of her sister. If the father did not listen, then he should be ostrasized by those who agreed that immodest apparel causes people to sin in their hearts and bodies.

21. AND WE DARE PONTIFICATE
OFERDESADE ,   ISRAEL   (06.05.08)
my wife shops in beitar ilit. we live in a settlement close by - by no means a religious one. she has always spoken warmly of the people there and their friendliness. of course - in consideration of their feelings - she wouldn't dream of dressing inappropriately; but still, it could have been her. i quiver to think what percentage of people living in beitar ilit actually work for their living; they need all the honest income they can get (and i dare some fellow talkbacker to start lecturing me on the subjectivity of the word "honest". i am sure the people of beitar ilit know who these people are. and yet they do nothing - just as in other orthodox neighborhoods. they deserve what they get. but they exist within the state i fought for, pay taxes to and consider my home these past 9 generations. they endanger all of us; their way of thought is no better than similar modes of subjegation practiced throughout time and geography. so long as they exist, we have no right whatsoever to talk about historical injustice, antisemitism, racial discrimination, historical tragedies.... nothing. so long as they exist, and for as long as we remain silent, we should bloody well shut the f... up!!!

23. That's how some people see tolerance !
bar ,   Israel   (06.05.08)
And they want the seculars to tolerate them ? Be tolerant if you want to be tolerated . Such facts only will bring acts " Le'ach'is "against them
24. And they want to be tolerated !
bar ,   israel   (06.05.08)
By acting so , it's just the contrary , people will look how to provoke them . People will distance themselve more and more from religion and this coercision
25. THIS HEINOUS ACT DOES NOT REPRESENT THE NEIGHBORHOOD!
Riva Schertzman ,   betar   (06.05.08)
Firstly, this terrible and most unacceptable attempted murderous act certainly does not represent the view of the majority, but it is rather from a small segment of zealous nutcases who should be punished for their violent acts to the full extent of the law.
26. What there is left to say?
DkS ,   J'lem, IL   (06.05.08)
Lunatics like these are a disgrace to Israel and the Jewish people. I know they do not represent the whole of Haredi society. But for once, just once, I would like to hear some important Rabbis speak out against the various extremists and lunatics in their midst. The Haredim are one of Israel's fastest growing population groups and I foresee a lot more trouble with (elements within) this community in the near future. The backward mentality of many (not all!) of them is a threat to the future and cohesion of our society. Time to take measures while it's still not too late, or one day, chas vechalila, we'll find ourselves waking up with a Jewish Taliban in our midst. Time to face the truth. Extremist Orthodox Jews of all kinds are really not much better and in fact scaringly similar to Muslim fundamentalists.
27. This coudln't have happened in Israel
Chocko ,   NY, USA   (06.05.08)
Could it.... This has to be a story from Taliban controlled Afghanistan a few years ago. Or Maybe parts of Nigeria or Iran..... It must be.... This could never be from a country that prides itself on its freedoms, The only democracy in the Middle East. And Acid is poured on a teenager because someone else states that she is immoral. 'Weep' Dear Friends and know, ' Jerusalem is truly lost'
28. This is disgraceful and to be condemned
(06.05.08)
outright. We hear of similar going on in India but cannot beleive it would happen in Israel. And where did this Jewish Modesty Patrol come from? Is this the equivalent of the Saudi gang of men who roam neighbourhoods calling themselves the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. I'm afraid some Jews are becoming like their muslim cousins. Shame on you forever.
29. Modesty Patrols
Millicent ,   Israel   (06.05.08)
Where are we living in Iran,or Saudi Arabia? Modesty Patrols in Israel, especially ones that terrorize young women! Thismust be stopped and the culprits brought to justice, and given lengthy jail time! This is still a free and democratic nation where we have the right to dress how we want, and be religious or secular...The Rabbis must speak out against this crime, ifnot then they are condoning the actions of the perpetrators! I pray this young lady will heal quickly and her family will no longer be vicitmized by these so called Modesty Patrols!
