leaving Government from both sides aside. Dear Azans, why you allow your children to be killed unnecessarily? Put the energy to constructive work and do something creative, instead of destructive work. You all know Israel is not going to be moved by your rockets, neither our politicians will give up, they will simply order and destructions will follow in your territory. Therefore, it is entirely in your hands, you decide you want your children be positive or negative.

this recent exchange of fire highlights two problems in israel's current, muddled strategy. first, israel is on the defensive, which it cannot afford to be. allowing hamas to choose the time and place of battle gives them an advantage militarily and diplomatically. israel needs to take away that advantage by seizing the initiative, on both the military and the diplomatic fronts. and second, it is targeting the wrong people. the loss of three "operatives" will not deter hamas' leaders, who see death (of others) as a valuable commodity for the cause. instead, the idf needs to target higher levels of the terrorist structure. at least that would disrupt their planning and operations, and would be some deterrent to the rest. in dealing with a snake, it is important to act decisively... and to aim for the head.

You are absolutely right. An eye for an eye policy when trying to combat an implacable enemy never did and never will work apart from making it all look like a soccer game. For every attack emanating from the enemy which aims to bring about casualties, regardless of whether it's successful or not, the response should be such that the enemy population at large - and not just the anonimous "militants" in their midst - reels from pain and horror. The retaliation should be on such a scale that a generation afterwards would be able to remember what happened. Simply take a look at Germany: apart from a few degenerate neo-nazis (who tend to be silenced by their own countrymen) the Germans are horrified of a mere thought of sending their soldiers anywhere beyond the borders (modified as a result of German aggression) of their country. That's the education I like. But an eye-for-an-eye nonsense should be left to ideologues and fanatics.

I think you are right. Israel has to reassert the once prevalent ability to outthink, outmaneuver, and up-turn her enemy from a point where nobody saw it coming. Hitting close to the snake’s head is better than a few gunners, but not enough. Only once all the top leaders are targeted and hit, can this snake cease to be. Having said all that, if our current government and army are only capable of targeting the shooters, 100% better than NOTHING done, yet, if so, we had better make big changes!! If time allows. G-d bless Eretz Israel. In short, the current ‘method’ of tackling things proves to be worthless. We need change at the very top. Someone with big kahunas is needed to make the hard decisions, with wisdom, exit strategies, the whole package. The ‘forces’ of moderation from the Pali side has done it’s dash, failed miserably, and nobody emerged to take this people to a place of enlightenment; they continue to teach their children savagery and a love for Jewish blood, refuse to challenge their leaders for just distribution of what now amounts to billions of foreign aid dollars, have absolutely no interest in peace or two state solutions, nada! It has become obvious to anybody not from here, and with half a brain (& doesn’t harbor a hatred for all things Israel/Jewish/Zionist) that, placed in a situation even remotely similar, they would demand nothing short of effective, painful, and finite responses from their government, elected to protect the citizens, by way of the army, navy, air force – whatever it takes! This ‘underdog’ stuff is BS, just a method implemented by the entire Muslim and Arab world for a myriad of reasons. Enough. Gaza should be alerted, break down the Egyptian ‘barriers’ again, but this time, all should go – and not return! 48 hours after the warning – carpet bomb. All of it. The scummy towns, villages, (our) farmlands, etc. scorched earth now. (Who needs an ‘exit strategy?)
18. Since when are terrorists 'operatives'
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.10.08)
Let's call these scum what they are, no more politically correct terms.
19. Large Scale OP was needed when the FIRST rocket was fired
Miriam ,   Israel   (06.10.08)
into Israel 8 years ago. The Arabs see Israel's weakness and will continue firing until Israel takes control. They know that as long as the powerless leaders: Olmert, Livni and Barak are in power they can shoot as much they want. Over thousand terrorists were already freed and they still haven't released Shalit. AS LONG AS THE RED CROSS IS NOT PERMITTED TO VISIT HIM, THERE'S NO REASON TO BELIEVE THEM and that HE'S ALIVE, even if the parents consider his letter to be authentic. The ARABS ARE SMARTER than Israel’s toothless leaders.
