1. I dont believe a word shas says anymore but we need election
Olmert still has a one option left to
Olmert has one last card to play to avoid elections and thats to send troops into Gaza before 25 June.
When there is a major millitary campaign going on then its not time to demand an ellection or even criticise the government so all Olmerts coruption will take a backseat in the media counts the dead bodies coming out of Gaza rather than the money going into Olmerts bank acounts.
In the past 2 years the height of Olmerts poularity was during the Lebanon war when its considered unpatriotic to question the government.
Olmert wants a Gaza operation to divert attetion from his criminal activity and kill off the public demand for elections.
1) Troops sent into Gaza to put on a show of strengh nothing more they will be pulled out after a matter of days.
2) We will accept Hamas 6 month ceacefire agreement which everybody knows is only going to harm Israel but Olmert wants a little quiet stop ciriticism.
3) The momentum for elections is dead thanks to the Gaza operation.
4) Kadima will have their primiaries & it will most likley be Livni chosen to replace Olmert and she is just Olmert in a suit policy wise.
She will clean up kadimas image to divert attention to the fact she is following Olmerts bad policy and as we will have a 6 month ceacefire then she is going to get a serious populairyt boost.
New Kadima, no rocket attacks ( untill Hamas is ready ) nobody is going to ask for an election.
5) Hamas & Fatah will probably patch up their differences whilst this ceacefire is going on because Hamas cant risk isolation again.
A new president comes along in November while the 6 month ceacefire is going on and to avoid them splitting again the new US president Obama especialy will order Israel not to respond to any attacks that take place once the ceacefire is over.
6) The new ellecatble looking Kadima led by Livni sells the Golan, Jerusalem and its holy sites & does a bad deal with the palestians within a matter of months.
When she is on a high she will call for elections and probably get ellected.
7) Kadima returns and we will get more Olmert policies.
These are dangerous times because we have a regime thats so desperate to cling onto power than they are willing to do anything including starting wars which are not going to achive anything, accepting ceacefires that are going to harm our long term interests and sell the entire country cheap to terrorists.
the only way we are going to get any political change is for Labour & Shas to formerly anounce they are quiting the coalition now.
Barak will certainly benfit from ellections now rather than later because if he waits another 2 years allows Livni to clean up Kadimas image he faces a serious chalenger at the next election.
If thre are elections before the end of 2008 then when people think about Kadima they will still think of Olmert and coruption & Livnit wont have time to clean house so Kadima will probably come out of the election a small party while Labour & Likud are the main players.
So for Barak better one enemy to fight at the polls rather than two all for the sake of staying in government for an extra 2 years.
Likud will still win anyway but Natanyahhu will still need Labour to form a coalition so Barakl will still come out of it with some senior government posts win or loose.
If Barak was smart he would be having private conversations with Natanyahu about having early elections they can discuss the kind of posts that either would offer the other if they win.
We need formal anouncements that Labour & Shas intend to quit the coalition now before the snake Olmert can try anymore crooked tactics to stay in power.
