George ,   Antwerp   (06.15.08)

8. Israelis eat Iranian pistachios. What if the Iranians are
Rivkah   (06.15.08)
irradiating the pistachios with polonium-210 or an equally toxic radioactive isomer? Think it can't happen? The mystery of a very high rate of leukemia in children at Fallon, Nevada, Naval Air Station was partially solved when the wells were tested for radioactive isomers. The water wells in Fallon and Reno were so radioactive with polonium-210 that even the milk from the dairies had to be poured out if the cows drank water from the sabotaged wells. Spraying pistachios with something toxic like that before shipping them to Turkey and then Israel is what is to be expected from enemies. I have hair samples analyzed each year at www.doctorsdata.com for unusual things and you would be astonished at the poisons in the water and food and air and even the clothing people are exposed to in America which is rapidly becoming a third world nation in may ways. Each year, the poisons and toxins I am exposed to differs, as I change habits and try to avoid what could have caused the toxicities. Think pistachios can't be poisoned with tasteless toxins? Feed it to the tree and it gets into the fruit.
9. pistacios
sherlock holmes ,   London   (06.15.08)
In addition to all this ,Iranian pistacios have shown in the past high levels of toxins and pesticide residue , including DDT , which have been banned for a long time . As some of these pistacios are ending up in food products exported from Israel , WE ALL HAVE TO CHECK WHAT WE ARE EATING! This article will be passed to E.U health authorities.
10. Buying nuts from Iran

13. It's only about market share.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (06.15.08)
It's the ambassador's job to sell American products. The $20 million we import from wherever represents 10 minutes of Iran's oil revenue. I also doubt if Iran's pistachio growers are involved in their nuclear program. American pistachio nuts taste like wood - This issue is about as unimportant as it gets re: stopping Iran. If this is how America plans to stop Iran, we'd better be making our own plans.
14. #9. DDT is toxic to bird egg shells. It is not really toxic
Stewart ,   USA   (06.15.08)
to people in residual amounts. Where DDT is not used in 3rd world tropical countries, there are often malaria out breaks. DDT was one of the best pesticides ever invented, but it got a bum rap. It should still be used in malaria infested areas.
15. Why should Iranian pistachio growers suffer?
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (06.15.08)
We have nothing against them. The Iranian people want to be freed from their tyrannical regime!
16. Reminds me of a joke I once heard
(06.15.08)
What's the difference between Israelis and the Israelites? Answer: A third fewer calories. When it comes to the stomach, it doesn't matter where it comes from. I see many Iranian nuts (which I don't buy) and dates on sale here and the dates don't look particularly appetising in any case. Give me well produced Medjool from Israel any day.
17. IF IT ISN'T THE PEA-NUT VENDOR ITS THE PISTACHIO VENDOR !
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (06.15.08)
18. #13 Maybe...
Soeren ,   Cologne/Germany   (06.15.08)
... it's about market share – nevertheless the ambassador is right. After all, no state is so much pressuring for a "ban of trade with Iran" like Israel. So it looks bad when Israeli companies are trading with Iran themselves. Israel is buying nuts from Iran – not directly but via Turkey. Iran would "NEVER EVER make business with these evil zionists" they want to kill. The Israeli money they take nevertheless. Saudi Arabia is buying Israeli sausages – not directly in Israel, you guess... but via Cyprus. Let me laugh... "Openly declared policy" is one thing and indirect acting is another.
19. Pistachios
Millicent ,   Israel   (06.15.08)
We should boycott Iranian pistachios then, after allt hey are our enemy! Buy American!
20. There is one nut from Iran I wouldn't mind importing
Alex ,   Haifa Israel   (06.15.08)
The exporting again, in pieces.
21. Iranian imports to Israel
Spencer ,   Israel   (06.15.08)
If the facts are true then it's a disgrace. The importers should be jailed!
22. So Israelis like iranian NUTS :P
fadi ,   lebanon   (06.15.08)
23. Did the US similarly "slam" Swiss for gas deal?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (06.15.08)
I don't know how their qualities compare, but I'd certainly prefer Israel buy California pistachios rather than Iran's. That said, I wonder if the US similarly "slams" the Swiss or the Chinese for their oil and gas deals, or the Germans for their sale of precision equipment. I suspect not. Israel evinces weakness, and thus invites being pushed around. Recall how quickly Israel "jumped" over the issue of visas for Gaza students.
24. HOW ABOUT PERSIAN MAGIC FLYING CARPETS THAT LAND IN ISRAEL
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (06.15.08)
25. Israel does whatever it wants.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (06.15.08)
There are no rules or regulations that she has to adhere to. The law of the jungle prevails.
26. This is a BS article
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (06.15.08)
The sale of pistachos has nothing to do with nuclear capability. There are many Iranian-Canadian businesses that import pistachos and other goods from Iran. We are talking about food, not bombs.
27. Rice shakes hands with Hizbulah...
Menachem Ben Yakov ,   Jerusalem , Israel   (06.19.08)
... and Israel is condemned for buying pistachios? Talk about a shell game!
28. Great laugh
Lau ,   Malaysia   (01.18.10)
This was a great laugh. I loved the last two paragraphs. Tickled my ribs.
