If we were serious and a strike was imminent there wouldn't have been a public statement of any kind. And since the Iranian's won't be impressed by this, I doubt its for their benefit. I suspect its actually intended as a psychological wedge on the IAEA and EU to push for stronger international sanctions. The US has been dissatisfied with their stance to date and its the US who released the information (probably in concert with Israel). Israel wont be getting F35 for at least 5 years, its unlikley that we will get F22 and even if we did it wouldnt be untill the USAF have got their full batch. Israel in the short term should be looking to lease Americas recently retired of F117 Nighthawk stealth jet. No need to wait the USAF has just retired their last ones. Its older stealth technology so permision from Congress to permit their lease shouldnt be to difficult. All thats needed then is for Israeli pilots to go get trained up and the aircraft delivered. A deal like that would help both sides, F22 is designed to replace F117 as the main stealth fighter, the USAF has retired them so they are now just sitting in storage, the income form the lease can be used to help find the F22 purchases. Israel does not have the recources to deal with the Iraninan neuclear threat millitarily. This isnt Iraq 1981 where Israel had the element of surprise and Saddam had put all his eggs into one basket in the form of an above ground reactor. In Iran they have been preparing for an Israeli attack from the start, neuclear facilities are spread out around verious parts of the country and many underground. They are also ready for any Israeli so even if Israel did mange to do somethign it would be little more than a token gesture. Only the Americans can go this alone.. Bush & Cheyney want to see Irans neuclear facilities bombed back to the stone age so is it possible Israel & America are doing secret deals based along simmilar lines to the secret deal the UK & France made with Israel in 1956 to take back Suez Canal Israel would go into Siani while the British & French would eventualt step in as peace keepers. Israel sends jets to attack Iran the purpose is not to destroy the Iranian neuclear program but to provoke Iran into attacking then giving America an excuse to get involved because their ally was under attack. The US has hundreds of heavy bombers, fighters, stealth jets and at least 2 battle groups on Irans front door. 1) US stealth jets go into Iran simaltanioulsy bomb various targets like airfields or rocket sites. 2) conventional fighters deal with the Iranian airforce 3) Bombers sink the Iranian navy while the ships are still sitting in port and finally destroy all neuclear sites. All carried out by air no troops put onto the ground at any stage. When the job is done not onnly will Irans neuclear program be history but it will leave Iran as a secibnd rate millitary power in the Gulf which the arab Gulf states would be very happy to see happen.

I nixed the F117 and B2, because Of course, we could let the IDF/IAF figure out and show us how to correct the system as happened with our tanks that didn't do too well in desert sand until Israel shared a few adjustments. I read somewhere that we have already agreed to sell/lease Israel F22's. True or not, I can't imagine us sitting on our butts and let Iran wreak havoc over there. I read, too, that the F35 is meant to replace the F22, because it's more advanced and much cheaper to build.

The F22 Raptor is a fighter and can not attack ground targets. The F117 was only called a fighter to atract the best pilots to the new aircraft. It is really an attack/bomber. F22's would be of little help in an attack against Iran considering the already overwhelming advantage Israeli aircraft have over Iranian relics. The F35 however would be of great help considering it is desigened to attack ground targets and is second only in dogfighting to the raptor. They are both 5th generation aircraft.
