1) Because at least IDF allows prisoners to be seen by the outside world, while not even the International Red Cross knows what has become of Regev, Goldwasser, Baumel, Katz, Arad, etc. 2) Because many of these detainees deserve a punishment worse than torture (example: Kutar, Barghouti, etc.) 3) Because the PCATI relies on one-sided information without checking its information for factual reality. 4) Because it means the IDF is fighting terror (despite having an incompetent government).

Indeed, the balance will "tip" as you say but what you can't seem to imagine is that it will not tip in your favour. The supposed "strength" of your Hamas, Fatah, & others of their ilk is a figment of your imagination - and a product of the weakness & ineptitude of our current political elite.
