Commission slams government treatment of Holocaust survivors    Amnon Meranda
1. Re: Dorner Commission Report.
Sincere appreciation for the thorough survey and empathy shown in the Report, prepared with admirable speed. My interest in the establishment of Channels of Information on the rights and entitlements of Holocaust survivors, requested in the report, is acute. I am a Holocaust survivor on the "wrong side" of 1953, and of the map. As I resided in an Iron Curtain country (Hungary) until 1956, after my arrival to the UK in 1957, and to Israel in 1967, I was not entitled to compensation either from Germany or from israel. As my lawyer, at the time, missed the deadline in submitting a claim, I did not receive compensation from the Hardship Fund. Having produced copies of original Camp Documents, in my possession, I was granted a small monthly stipend from funds of the Final Settlement (Section B) from 1990. My health disability, acquired during imprisonment and forced labour in the age of 11 was never considered.
