1. what went wrong
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (06.29.08)
Isarael did not demand RED CROSS ACCESS and proof of life without which no negotiation is possible and finally we cannot trade dead bodies for live bodies
2. What Went Wrong Is Simple: And Is Repeated Time After Time
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (06.29.08)
The government doesn't abide by Jewish law: "Ein podin et hashevuyin yeter al kedai dmeihem". It's against Jewish law to pay too high a price for captives, and we see why: Because this only encourages terrorists to try and capture more Israelis.
3. MIA's and KIA's
marlene ,   philadelphia USA   (06.29.08)
The life of an Israeli soldier is worth a million arab muslim occupiers. What I don't understand is why Israel is negotiating with the UN and why the UN doesn't condemn hiz-bull-ah and what about the Geneva Convention? Doesn't it apply to Israel too? We all know these terrorists kidnap, torture and kill. Please Israel - TAKE THEM OUT!
4. What is wrong
Rami ,   London   (06.29.08)
Israel didn't finish the job on Lebanon and Syria, deliberately lost a war due to traitorous anti-Israel leadership. These leaders are being tolerated by weary Israelis. That's what's wrong. Plus the media is filled with liberal, stupid hacks.

you compalin about this or that and offer your opinions. yet you are the one who sustains olmert. so who are you to talk. All of israel's enemies laugh at olmert. he lost lebanon to hezbollah. He lost south of israel to hamas. So who are you kidding? You should resign to pressure Olmert. Olmert is good at 3 things 1) politics 2) lying 3) straddling the borderline of thievery. He is utterly lacking in courage, is given to boasting and is singulary lacking in war planning. israel cannot attack until he leaves as he screws up everything militarily ,. Besides, Israelis will not fight for this coward. they may even have trouble fighting for barak for supporting olmert.
6. A plea from a diaspora Jew.
NC ,   Canada   (06.30.08)
The criticisms of the members of the Israeli government and the structure of the government have been repeated many times. The system currently in place creates a situation whereby MKs are more accountable to the party than the electorate. This is the crux of the problem with the Israeli leadership. So why isn't anyone taking action to change things. Why such complacency?! Unlike most other nations, Israel faces serious existential threats. If the Canadian government makes a few mistakes, who cares? No one is threatening to wipe Canada off the map. Israel has to many enemies to be able to afford to get complacent. Take some action! Push for a change in government!
7. Israel forgot that the enemy that should "pay the price"
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (06.29.08)
Israel made, and continues to make, fundamental mistakes, viz: * Know what you're negotiating about: Israel failed to obtain a "proof of life", which should have been the starting point of any negotiation. * Utilize all means of pressure: If the Red Cross can't visit your people, then no one beyond the Red Cross should visit *their* people. Hamas and Hizbullah would then start to feel the pressure from *their* families. * Don't incentivize the capture of Israeli soldiers: Israel failed this *big time*. Hamas and Hizbullah have already indicated that they will continue efforts to capture Israelis. Why wouldn't they? It's a proven strategy. * Don't make the families the focus of your concerns: Israel's leadership is responsible for the *national* welfare. Israel's media help them to forget that. The fact is, by Israel's own actions, they've undermined the deterrence against aggression. And more Israelis will die.
8. What do you mean what went wrong?
Jared ,   Stillwater   (06.30.08)
I am just tired of Israel acting as a victim, what do you mean what went wrong? Most Arabs in Israeli jails have spent more time than what their “crime” calls for. How many children did the IDF kill and simply walked a way?
9. What if...
(06.30.08)
What if one of these boys was your son?
10. Nothing short of Revolution will Save Israel
Joe Kaufman ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.30.08)
What went wrong you ask? Israeli's let self serving traitors and idiots run the country. Hard to imagine a gaggle of geese more inept than the present government. And until Israeli's rise up in revolt, demanding representation in the Knesset, and answerability to the electorate, not a soviet style party central committee, nothing will change, and those with intelligence enough to see what fools do will leave Israel, abandoning other Jews to their fate in the hands of crooks and morons. Nothing short of a revolution in thinking and action will save Israel from the political scum that presently pretends to act in Israel's best interest. I shudder at the thought of what will be left if the Ehudim aren't taken out of power. There MUST be political reform. Party central committees can no longer be the arbiter of decision making: Knesset representatives SHOULD be in their positions to serve the needs of the people. To claim that they do now is to LIE. Israel is not a parliamentary democracy like the UK for example. I can think of no other country where such political scandals would leave such jerks in office. I pray that Israel doesn't have the leadership it deserves, but if the people of Israel continue to tolerate this vomit of a political system, perhaps they do, and smart people out to find their way out now.
11. something went wrong
SDB ,   ZY Israel   (06.30.08)
No Israeli government has figured out how to negotiate with our friend, the USA, for our soldier Pollard, whose whereabouts is well known. How is it surprising that negotiating with our enemy has gone wrong?
12. We Jews were deceived by Kadima,&now we are paying a heavy
price for deception. ,   Rueben, Israel   (06.30.08)
13. We have thrown Hashem out and embraced the devil. What did we
expect would happen? ,   Shlomo, Israel   (06.30.08)
14. Correct decision
Yehudi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.01.08)
The Prime Minister and the Government has made a correct and moral decision it exchanging prisoners for our beloved sons who fell in defense of our country. This is the Jewish way, the decent and compassionate way, so that the families can bury their dead with dignity in accordance with the halacha.
