Biting the hand that feeds you    Gilad Sharon
31. Israeli-Arabs have always been loyal to the state
it is the state that betrayed us from day one (1948) and discriminated against us even before the was 67 war; and still discriminate against us even those who serve in the IDF. . It is true there are some radicals among Israeli-Arabs, but they by no mean represent everybody, please do not stereotpe the whole population. East jerusalem arabs are palestinians and have different aspiraton that Israeli-Arabs, so you can't attribute to us based on what they do.

33. '67 borders are politically meaningless.
Although this is a mere side-point in the article, I wanted to stress the point that the Palestinian desire to have a Palestinian state in the 1967 borders, is devoid of any real political meaning. The 1967 line is merely the border were Jordan used to be, before the Six Days War. This used to be Jordanian territory, and after Jordan lost that war, these territories became under Israel's control. And although many places within the '67 borders are populated with Palestinians - many other areas within these borders are not, while many places outside the '67 borders (i.e. within Israel proper) do have a large Arab population. Thus - there is nothing "Palestinian" about the '67 borders. And with all due respect to King Hussein's bequeathing these territories to the Palestinians - it is ridiculous to award someone, something that is not in your possession! There is no reason why the Latrun area, the Dead Sea, Maale Adumim, and much of the Jordan Valley would not become a part of Israel. Similarly, there is no reason why Umm El Fahm, Baka al Gharbiye, Tayibe, etc. wouldn't become a part of the future Palestine.

I've never read a talkback, editorial, book that was as objective, factual and honest as the one you wrote. They'll never be justice until people in the region see the whole picture.

"...stole...", "...brutal occupier...", "breaking international law...", "...discriminating against arab citizens..." no sair these are all talking about who you are and how you think, rather tha, what is happening. They call it holy land, all their culture, language, and heritage is originated, and developed. Not only the lives praying twoard that, but the dead is lying twoard that. Sir before getting further in the phylosophycal issues, would you please discuss with you therapist. By the way do you know what is self defense. This is superwriting any written law. respectfully yours

((Stop pretending like your the victim!)) And stop pretending to us arab readers that you could speak in english. On the victim label... hypocrisy comes to mind. There are several museums around town and thousands of others in the Zionist USA. ((Everybody knows we bought the land fair and square.)) Really? You didn't just seize it militarily and force its residents to flee using your own draconian style? Palestine remembered .com is a good place to start. Get reading... ((We wanted the land and you offered us your daughters .Thanks but no thanks.)) You coveted the land; that much is correct. Of the rest... what?! ((You sold so much land we declared ourselves a state)). Check maps buddy. By the '47 partition only 6% of the whole Palestine was actually Jewish land. The partition promised 55% to only 33% of the population (Jews); how did Israel become a state? Certainly not from land "sold by Arabs" my dear. ((You got all your little dictator friends that wanted their own greedy countries .We won. Than you call it nakhba)) I don't follow your incoherent babbling on this. ((We are a peaceful people)) A peaceful people occupying its neighbor for forty years, regularly usurping their rights, murdering their children, flouting international law (need I go on?) You know: if I were to carry a huge rifle and walk about the market I would be arrested for good reason; here you wear such weapons as casually as wearing your shirts. Do not tell me that you are a peaceful people. ((We will defend our country of israel.)) Correction: we will defend our STATE of Israel. A vast difference as far as I'm concerned. Go about defending your state, but our fight continues as well. ((Be responsible humans and recognize the truth!)) Try saying that with this rubbish post of yours. ((CHAI ISRAEL)) FREE PALESTINE!

What of those Arabs who have fought and died along with their Jewish counterparts? So be it, Mr. Sharon and your racist pathetic views- I'm sure your father would be very pleased...

39. Gilad! You must read the books of MALACHI and OBADIAH in the
Bible. The descendants of Esau are going to suffer an indescribable destruction and the House of Jacob will possess their possessions. The House of Esau will be for stubble, kindled and devoured. There shall not be any remaining of the House of Esau. None will remain alive from the House of Esau. The will be only stubble-ashes under the saints' feet. There are many descendants of the House of Esau in the Middle East and ALL of them are going to perish. I don't know how that will happen, but it might be during World War III when a quarter of the people on earth die. Islam is a quarter of the earth and many if not most are descendants of Esau. Gerald Flurry called OBADIAH the most terrifying message in the Bible. The House of Esau (Arabs et al) should make peace with the House of Jacob to delay the awful judgment that is coming on Esau's descendants. Israel will be greatly expanded when that happens. Only God could accomplish such a great destruction to give the Jews back the land God gave to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Rivkah   (07.07.08)
40. Quit pretending you discriminate against
them just because they're a "threat". You discriminate against them because the Jewish state you envision cannot accept non-Jews within its borders without such discrimination. It's impossible to maintain demographic supremacy without discrimination, so even if Israeli Arabs declared complete loyalty to Israel and its "values", they'd still never be treated as equals. I would love to hear a solution proposed to this dilemma that doesn't involve pipe dreams and placing all the responsibility for change on the Arabs. In all the time I've been examining Mideast issues, I've never heard a single practical proposal for ending Israeli discrimination against your minority population without relying on mass deportation and coercive ethnic and religious separatism, unless you count the option of secularization and integration of the entire state, which most Israelis label "national suicide". Most people just pretend the issue doesn't exist, or place all the blame on the Arabs. But it isn't their fault. It's an inherent flaw in the nature of the state. It's a flaw in the very conception of Israel itself, and one that can't be ignored or glossed over forever.

41. God's solution to the attacks on the House of Jacob by the
House of Esau can be found in the books of Malachi, Obadiah, and Zechariah and elsewhere in the Bible. God's solution is the death of every descendant of the House of Esau which God will bring to pass. Only God could. There will be NO descendants of the House of Esau left alive on this earth. That means a lot of people in Turkey (Togormah in Ezekiel), Jordan, Israel, Syria, and a lot of other countries where Esau's descendants live are facing certain death UNLESS they delay God's judgment on them by repenting and making peace with the House of Jacob. How will God do that? God managed to slay hundreds of thousands in Indonesia and Thailand and a lot of other countries with ONE tsunami in 2004.

Wish my grandparents living in Arab lands could have recieved the kind of discrimination the Arabs get in Israel today. Off topic, how does it feel being an armchair general all the way in the US? Do you truly believe you're big mouthed rants manage to accomplish anything? For that matter why have I never seen you once say anything constructive about Israel, or critical of the Arabs? Are you an Arab? Do you have a narrow, one sided view, only criticizing Israel? Why should readers of this site take your emotional rants seriously when all you do is spit daily drivel against a visible minority?
(07.07.08)
43. Take them seriously as citizens- Draft them!
Personally, I'm against the draft in its current form because of its massive inefficiency, but as long as it exists, why not draft the Arabs into at least non-combat low security risk office job positions? Yes, they will be forced to do 2-3 years of regular service like their fellow citizens. They can even bring their PLO flags with them to the base for all I care. It's inexcusable that they get to go to State-subsidized University while their fellow citizens defend them. Otherwise, they will have to sit in jail or emigrate, just like regular Jews who don't want to serve.
Logic ,   Israel   (07.07.08)
44. to # 41: As israeli-arab, i agree with you..
I think all Israeli citizens should be subject o the same draft regaddless or religion or ethnic background. Israeli-Arab should be required to perform military/civil service and should be treated as equal.
Rami ,   Nazareth, Israel   (07.07.08)
45. Only those that serve in the IDF should recieve benifits
And ban flying enemy flags.Hebrew and English to be the only official languages.Zero tolerance for sedition,in all it's manifestations. If they don't like it,they can have a one way ticket to Gaza.

47. Sharon's argument doesn't wash.
I think of my own country's treatment of Indians, blacks, and Japanese in World War II. At many times in US history, it would be asking too much for anyone in these groups to be red, white, and blue flag waving patriots. Why should Arab Israelis want to automatically fall in line with Israeli mainstream thinking, given the second class nature of their citizenship and the constant racism that they experience every day? And, do the ultra orthodox in your country conform to the same standards that you are expecting the Arab Israelis to conform to?
Karl Eysenbach ,   Eugene, OR USA   (07.08.08)
48. Land and Population Transfers Wont' Resolve This Problem
To S. Freedman: As an American, I am appauled by some Hispanics here who seem to be colonizing Calif, not assimilating. They teach their children Spanish..from day one, which creates a real and expensive problem from K thru 12 in our schools. Ask any educator. Spanish between customers and employees is common (McDonalds for starters). But, they do go into the army, pay taxes and will be tried for sedition and treason, if crimes are committed. Israel should expect minimally loyalty to the State..and army (if not in combat positions). Israel is too lenient, soft on all it's enemies. Whether 1m more Jews would resolve this problem is problematic., but worth a try. It's state of denial is disturbing..There is no excuse for bad intelligence in such a small state. Where is Israel's Mossad? Why is Israel so confused considering?
Dave Levy ,   Burbank.CAUSA   (07.08.08)
49. #38, as it will probably never happen again
I must take this opportunity to agree with you. Many Israeli-Arabs and Druze serve in top units in the IDF, from intelligence to IAF to sayeret Maktal and Yassam. To tar ALL Israeli-Arabs and Druze with the same brush as say Bishara is to make the same mistake that people who villify Israel do.
Danny   (07.08.08)

In what way are Israeli-Arabs "discriminated" against in Israel?

Why is dual loyalty by Jews to Israel a problem when I see flags from other countries (Italy, Ireland, Brazil etc.) on people's cars all the time. Is dual loyalty okay as long as it isn't Israel or as long as it doesn't offend you? Sorry, that's a double standard that is just a cover for anti-Semitism. The US has gone to the defense of many allies over the years. The Iraq war was not started primarily or even significantly to support Israel, so don't make it seem as if this was the central reason for the war!
Ed A ,   Malden MA USA   (07.10.08)

Antisemitism is the same old nonsense that keeps you from discussing the issue and it doesn't float... We went into Iraq for oil and Israel...we couldn't justify it just for oil. Yes, we've gone to the defence of some countries..who were being under threat..Israel was not threatened by Iraq..they had already bombed their nuclear cites..and they could have easily bombed those threatening WMD's... No one is saying anything about flags...flags do not make dual loyaltist...Young men going to join the IDF, while AMERICANS are going to Iraq is inexcusable. They're the traitorous dual loyalists, get it?.. If that's antisemitism then you are an anti Amercan, Dual Loyalsit Israeli Firster...who has real Americans dying for Israel....
