He speaks of a "clash of civilization, in the singular" within Islam. I prefer Wafa Sultan's formulation, that we are dealing with a clash between civilization and barbarity. She's a Syrian-American critic who has bested Muslim extremists on al' Jazeera and elsewhere. It's just a different perspective. Gillerman has been one of the best UN representatives Israel ever had. He will be missed. Shalev has big shoes to fill. I don't know what the future holds for him back in Israel, but taking Livni's post as Foreign Minister might be a good start.

Mr Gillerman' s service should "set the bar" for domestic politics in Israel. He is a man whose contributions can not be commended enough! Bravo Mr Gillerman and thank you for being a light in an otherwise dark political theatre.

A true Israeli and Jew

Mr Gillerman had one of the most difficult political job an Israeli can have, representing your country in a forum of a rejecting, hostile, majority of the UN absurd theatre and he did it with eloquence, decency and courage. Respect!!!

I've always enjoyed interviews with Gillerman on US and Canadian media. He always spoke with clarity, dignity, and distinction. What Gillerman said about the Crisis of Islam is fully documented in the prestigious scholarship of Bernard Lewis (see his book by the same title), including even some leading Islamic scholars like Akhbar (can't remember his full name). Is it any wonder why Muslim scholars in Turkey are revising the status of the hadith, given it's overly negative teachings which lend its subjects to back up their hatred (of Jews and other non-believers), not to mention other degenerative doctrines? The Islamic world is on it way to more crises ahead of it. If Muslims want it to survive decently in today's world, then they gotta get down to work and give it a good makeover---publically as well as privately. Bidding Gillerman a hearty farewell, but he'd better come back again to Israeli politics and gov't. I wanna see more of him.
