1. prepare for obama and 'change'
elliot ,   point roberts,usa   (07.23.08)
his liberal views are the problem--saying they are the 'right' views but his priorities lie elsewhere is nonsense and makes them wrong for israel and the jews for whom the questions remain existential rather than rhetorical.
2. Boy, are you off base ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.23.08)
You really don't get it, do you Lapid? Obama's trip here is just a publicity stunt, a phoney media manipulation to head-off charges that he has no experience (which he doesn't). The media, as usual, will be his accomplice in perpetrating this fraud. Nothing Obama says means a thing. He will say anything to any audience to get a vote. A day later, he back-tracks or "clarifies" his position. Actually, we don't know a thing about his real views because his whole campaign has been designed to obscure who he really is. So, who is the real Obama? Just look at his financial backers, look at his supporters, look at his advisers, look at his past associations. That is the real Obama. Obama will be another Jimmy Carter, no friend of ours. Yet, you seem to relish the thought of a hostile US president - are you part of the "rape Israel" clique whose views are so repudiated & rejected here that your only hope is outside pressure to force us into defeat?
3. "He has the right views"???
DK ,   la-usa   (07.23.08)
I'm surprised that you would support open borders, gay marriage, a weakening of military power, unlimited abortions and full legal rights for terrorists-to name a few. Where all his $ comes from is another issue. The "Liberal Democrat" of today is not "our fathers" Democrat-they were always Patriots-it wasn't an issue. I like OHB but a job as an ambassador is all he's really qualified for. We don't have the luxury of "on-the job" training to a pampered celebrity or continued "winging-it" by someone incompetent and reckless like Bush. Regardless of the winner, the global jihad will continue and the choices will be the same-victory or capitulation. That's what this election is really about. If you want to embrace his Party, you're going to have to get some "sensitivity training" to cleanse your mind of any 'dangerous" thoughts you might harbor. Somehow, I just can't see a "firebrand" like you weeping on a blanket in front of your inquisitors as you confess your "sins" to the State.
4. According to Obama, Israel supports Israel.
AK   (07.23.08)
Freudian slip?
5. we will be beaten oh yeah !!! Leftists are fool
cordier   (07.23.08)
6. what a load...
Jon Cohen ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.23.08)
Does Yossi Lapid have any idea what he is talking about? I used to think so, but this article is poorly thought out and factually incorrect. Even though I am a Democrat I can see that Obama is about spin and very little else. Look what he said about Jerusalem and then retracted a few days later. True, he speaks well, and is charasmatic, but the man is ignorant and inexperienced. It's all show. Yossi Lapid doesn't get this ofcourse, because he is close minded and wishful thinking. And arrogant - like most people on the left. The thought is "I'm right, you're wrong but you just don't realize it". He also clearly doesn't understand what motivates American Jewry (specifically in Florida). Also, don't be so sure Obama will be elected. He is only 3 points ahead in the polls and still enjoying a "honeymoon" period. Americans are conservative and Obama is way out to the left. Recent Democratic presidents (i.e. Clinton) were on the right of their party. McCain is very much a centerist and my money is on him winning the actual vote in November. However in an era when our heros our film stars anything is possible. Substance doesn't matter any more. What is important is the way the message is given.
7. so bias...
Anniulkah ,   kefar yona, Israel   (07.23.08)
that last comment is so prejudice!!!! and what is the man supposed to do... he isnt president of the UN but of the US he has to take care of internal issues and secondly of those abroad. That doesnt mean he will give less attention to the israeli situation then the previous 3 presidents have... and had israel been in the US position, would be quick to take shekels away from israelies to give them to Americans or give the IDF less for the sake of the US marines?
8. Obama will tell us anything we want to hear
daniel   (07.23.08)
That's his modus operandi, that's how he became popular. I have no clue what he stands for, though I fear the worst. It's a pity Lapid didn't note that Israel was doing much better in the days it wasn't such a good friend of the US. Then the Americans couldnt force Israel into a peace process with a terrorist organisation. Now they can, the reason is because we are allies. I think America will very soon have to choose between oil and Isreal. Then we will know the real meaning of blood for oil.
9. Obama, most GOP and most Americans
V.R.Sonti ,   USA   (07.23.08)
Well said ! Obama like most Americans has other priorities. - Unfortunately, many Americans are even less supportive of Israel than the leaders: and for this, it is the extreme right-wing of jewish Americans to blame - imho.
10. meant Yair Lapid, not Yossi
Jon Cohen ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.23.08)
whoops :-(
11. And why is that annoying Israel?
Tom Falkon ,   NY   (07.23.08)
What is wrong in him paying more attention to his country and his people? Is your security more important that our security? And you have nukes, so what that worrying you? We need to look after ourselves rather than keep taking care of you guys !! You have taken our money and becasue you and your slave GWB, our country was sent to hell. Leave us alone
12. Obama = Mr Write
Rick ,   New York   (07.23.08)
You don't have to know anything else. Who is Mr. Write? Anti-Semite, who hates US. Mr. Write with Farakan went to Libia for money. Obama is a friend of Farakan as well. Obama went o Farakan 1 mil march and other events. As to talk, Obama is a lying individual - Mr. Write tells what he thinks. Otherwise they are equal.
13. T #2 Terry. Give it to him!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (07.23.08)
Well said Terry. Obama is the champion of champions in the Flip Flop Game. Well, we all heard him at AIPAC. Clear as a bell but now the truth is that what he said was taken out of context or distorted! The only problem is that we cut off you know what and the Arabs got the oil! Oh, if Moses had a GPS things would have been so different! Obama or McCain? Do you think it will change anything? The Yanks just don't get it. They are fast becoming the victim of the Economic Jihad and they can't even see it! Why doesn't the Senator from Illinois have a good look at what the Arab Airlines are paying for fuel while their US and European counterparts are slowly dying?
14. Obama and Israel
Daniel ,   NY   (07.23.08)
Guys, he's the President of the United States of America, not Israel. Do you talkbackers understand that? I will disagree however with Tom Falkon's extreme exaggeration that GWB is Israel's slave (what are you smoking Tom? and can i get some?) and that the US has been "sent to hell" because of him. Why do you chooses to blame Israel for GWB's mistakes? Do you give credit to Israel when GWB does something right? I haven't seen you praising Israel for your $600 rebate check.
15. don't trust the guy..
ayelet ,   tel aviv   (07.23.08)
as quickly as he regreted his speech in AIPAC conference , he will change american's attitude towards israel..
16. the only reason i read Lapid's dribble is for
svietka   (07.23.08)
talkbacks from Terry from Eilat. this guy should really be having his own space to write. Terry-u gota website and/or blog?
17.  B O
Bill ,   US   (07.23.08)
Glad you clarified that Obama is like Jimmy Carter in his views of Israel. The cinches my vote. Obama is one smooth slick talker, but what does it mean ?
18. No difference between "not telling the truth" and a lie
Adam Eliyahu Berkowi   (07.23.08)
Mr. Lapid, you've been left wing so long it's permanently damaged your brain. The left wing was built on lies but it seems to bother you that someone else has mastered the art of lie more than you or Shimon Peres. Yes, I agree that Obama is going to be very bad for Israel. I find it astonishing that 7 years after 9/11 america can consider electing a thinly disguised Moslem for president. To deny that Barak Hussein Obama is moslem is more than a bit delusional. But to be honest, his support base includes the same left wing zionistic Jews that support the peace process.
19. Yair Lapid, Obama has already lied to us
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (07.23.08)
Remember when he told us in February, "I am not and have never been a Muslim"? Seeing as his father is a Muslim and was one at the time of Barack's birth, Islamic Sharia views Obama as a Muslim. Moreover, his conversion to Christianity makes Obama a Murtadd, an apostate, liable to the death penalty if he does not revert back to Islam. Either Obama directly lied to us or his understanding of Islamic Sharia is laughable. Regardless, he is unfit to be the next president.
20. Yair Lapid
moriah ,   sacramento usa   (07.23.08)
Kool - Aid drinker.....
21. Mr. Obama's intense passion . . .
robin ,   israel   (07.23.08)
to take care of domestic issues in America should not be used against him, nor do we have the right as a friendly nation and recipient, not just of America's backing but immense financial support through taxing of it's citizens to tamper in that country's politics, even if our own safety might be at stake. Everyone forgets that when Bush first entered the white house, the first thing he said was that he was not going to make the Middle East a priority. Events took over, and we see that this policy quickly changed. One reassuring thing now is that Mr. Obama is far more intelligent and far less corrupt than Mr. Bush. Objectivity can also be a sign of someone who doesn't make promises he cannot keep or who checks all the components before making decisions; obviously, the picture will look different from the White House.
22. Bigots!
vered ,   israel   (07.23.08)
You could present pages and pages of things Obama has done. You could itemize all his accomplishments in the Senate. Anyone can go on the internet and find out anything they want to about the candidates. But it seems according to all the talk-backs that all those responding in any article about Obama have the attention span of a fly and prefer only to react to political gaffs and statements mistakenly made by all politicians. Thank God, none of you are voting.
23. Way to go Yair
David Kaufman ,   New York   (07.23.08)
Wow, young Lapid. I'm impressed. Having been privy to watching your impressive media presence during my years living in Israel -- and never quite understanding why they all love you so much -- I am deeply impressed with your words about Obama. You delivered a hard message to your countrymen. One few want to hear or admit to. But the truth nonetheless. When he is elected -- and he wil be -- Mr. Obama will indeed be faced with an unprecedented and unending relam of dometic and foriegn issues. Israel will be just one small part of this new political reality. As much as it may not like it, Israel will have to indeed finally learn its proper place in this future paradigm -- and it will be dramatically (and necessarily) far less promient. My own hope is that Israel uses this upcoming "under-the-radar" moment to looking inward and fix its very real series of domestic challenges. Perhaps wisely starting at the top.
24. Great analysis & opinion article. Agree 100%
Abe Froman ,   NY, NY   (07.23.08)
25. Obama is not yet President- Polls even
Rafi ,   USA   (07.23.08)
You are way ahead of yourself. Slow down take a breadth and maybe Israel will be fortunate and McCain a proven friend of Israel will become President.
26. You totally miss the point, it is not the Chicago
Guy   (07.23.08)
kids he worries. He worries about the islamo-Fascists kids even more. And his wife she probably is a supporter of hamas or hezbola. Don't be naive about him and his advisors.
27. Great Speaker? Oh, how funny!

29. To #22
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.23.08)
What, exactly, has Obama done? The list of his flip-flops is rather extensive, but maybe you can enlighten us with a list of his accomplishments. If you want to know who and what he is, just look at his friends and advisors. Oh, and I most certainly do vote.
30. Terry sums up what we on the other side of the Atlantic
Billy Yukon   (07.23.08)
have known for some time.. The guy (Obama OSAMA ..I THINK i KNOW YOUR MAMA) is a nothing. He hangs with worst anti-semites, racist Blacks around. Enough said. its takes a boob with a minimal understanding of English and a history of tuches lecking and anti-Jewish bashing (somethink he inherited from his low life dad) to pretend to begin to understand that which we have known from day 1. Yair ...go back to using crayons.
