1. Best of luck
Max ,   Oslo, Norway   (08.05.08)
Good luck in the olympics! Hope you kick some ass!
2. A rarity...
Eli ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.05.08)
... a somewhat positive (or at least objective) article about religion (or religious people) on Ynet.
3. This is ridiculous.
Israel   (08.05.08)
That a religious Jew from Israel cannot get kosher food?! I'll bet all the Muslim countries send their athletes Halal food! The Israeli team's food should be kosher and those who want to eat shrimp and pork can go out and buy it in Beijing! This is a shame for the "Jewish State"
4. The food in China
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (08.05.08)
The Americans, obviously not bound by dietary laws, are taking their own food with tem. Whether they are being paranoid or not their concern is that some "over zealous" patriots of some country may try to dope their food and so bring disgrace on the US Team. As we will be competing in a not too friendly to Israel competition, maybe the powers that be should consider doing the same?
5. kol hakavod lach!
keren hatzafon ,   israel   (08.05.08)
H-shem will surely bless you for your observance and strength of character. Best wishes for a successful tournament!
6. Her own Faith
AYbA ,   Israel   (08.05.08)
First of all kol hacvod to this great young lady. Yet it is upsetting and typical, acutally, of what that her coach, who appears to be a Jew, says, "she has her own faith", ?????as if she made up the laws of kashruth by herself, as if the she is the only religious Jew (probably that the coach interacts with), as if the Torah and the Jewish people were not one. It goes to show that JEWS respect other religions and even idolatry before they appreciate their own! AND... when the Jewish people wake up from their physcosis battered wife sysndrome (no offense to those who are), they will know that without Judaism and Jewish religious observance, that they are just like the rest of the nations, Nocri'im! Azeh Boosha, for Israel.
7. Authentic Judaism
Jerry ,   Eilat   (08.05.08)
This is the side of observant Judaism that must make God smile at what he has created. Not like the lunatic version that prohibits women from singing Hatikvah in the Knesset or forcing kids to wear idiotic clothing to dedicate a bridge in Jerusalem.
8. Good for her!!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (08.05.08)
Just shows one can be religious and still live 'in the world.' Yashar koach!! B'hatzlachah!!
9. She is successful because she keeps Shabbat and kashrut...
Ariel ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.05.08)
These are not disadvantages, but rather great advantages (I speak from experience)
10. Nice to hear...
Julian ,   Sydney, Australia   (08.05.08)
but a shame that she is the exception. Also, there is a kosher restaurant in Beijing!
11. Sport in Israel thats a joke .We are one
Eric......... ,   Israel.........   (08.05.08)

16. i hope she reaches the final, and it comes on a saturday
Marwan ,   Amman, Jordan   (08.05.08)
damn settler... thief of other ppl' lands...
17. In the US, this would be a serious issue
Aaron ,   Baltimore, USA   (08.05.08)
If a group were between 10% and 40% of the population (as are religious Jews in Israel, depending on definition), and were around 1% of anything desirable chosen nationally, the mere fact would trigger and investigation of wilful discrimination, and trigger a demand for affirmative action.
18. #11 don't forget the tourist rip-offs and sticky weather.
Tahl ,   Israel   (08.05.08)
Oh, and the fact that we can't even get a Dr. Pepper in here, and the Cherry Cola tasted awful. And no Hooters here yet either. So, are there any further horrible things in here we should be reminded about?
19. 11th Commandment
Fradi ,   NY, US   (08.05.08)
Thou shalt not eat Chinese food... it may be an actual Chinese or their cat.
20. A jewish and especially religious should not participate.
Norman   (08.05.08)
It was seen by many as a pagan religious festival started in greece about 2500 years ago.
21. Come in handy in the occupied terrotories
Simon ,   TA the free city   (08.05.08)
I`m sure her skills will come in handy for attacking soldiers and security forces who come to restore order in the occupied territories. Strange sport for a religious women i must admit. Does she drive a harley and listen to KD lang?
22. Kosher food in China is available
Alan Abbey ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.05.08)
Will someone please tell the idiotic reporter and the girl's coach that there is kosher food in Beijing - a Chabad-run restaurant has been widely reported - maybe even on YN - as having being open 24/6 during the Games, and is making its food available to kosher-keeping athletes (it is certainly possible there are others from other countries, like the US or Australia).

Mazl Tov,meidele
24. good luck to her, any Israeli-Arabs on the olympic team?
Rami ,   Nazareth, Israel   (08.05.08)
25. i really don't understand why she doesn't bring kosher bars
rivkah ,   washington, dc, usa   (08.05.08)
This makes no sense. It's not like she can't bring healthier kosher food for the competitions..
26. Good for you!
Ely ,   Pardes Chana   (08.05.08)
And may Moshiach come on Tisha Bav!
27. go to chabad
yechiel ,   london   (08.05.08)
if you need kosher food go to chabad
28. She is not religious...
David ,   Jerusalem   (08.05.08)
A truly Torah observant religious woman would never take part in such an event. How can she call herself religious and ignore tznius and negiah? You cannot pick and choose the laws of the Torah. You either accept them all, or you accept none - and if you do not accept them all, you are not religious.
29. Kosher Protein Bars
Jeff Leichtman ,   Edison, NJ 08817   (08.05.08)
What;s the problem? I just bought abot 2 dozen with either O-U (balance Abr) or Chaf K hechsher (Clif bar) at my local supermarket. They're chalav stam but not chalav Yisroel. Although looking at the ingredients at mosy there's trace dairy in a Clif Bar. If that's OK give me an address and I can express her a shipment.
30. Not Religious?
Eliahu ,   Tampa, Fl. USA   (08.05.08)
Not everyone can be a Perlman, Does that mean we should play the violin at all? We do the best we can and observe to the best of our abilities. Reb.Levi Yizchok of Berditchiver said H'Shem loves all Jews.
