Well, I was taken aback when I saw signage in Russian at their store. Now they put a discount for Arabs. I don't think I'd want to go there knowing this. It dounds like they don't want any other customers then Arabs and Russians. You don't want my business, I'll go elsewhere.

Yeah on average I spend 2000 NIS a month on home center, whether its small electric stuff, water filters, home appliances, suppies etc.. etc.. well good riddance.. I will take my money elsewhere!!

I assume your ancestors came either from Poland, Ukraine, or Belarus. All of these countries have ethnic majorities of Poles, Ukrainians and White Russians that are the direct result of massive amounts of Soviet ethnic cleansing and population exchange after World War II. Despite the efforts of the Soviets, however, there are small pockets of ethnic minorities in each of these countries that are discriminated against in ways that might astound you. Nevertheless, ethnic Poles in Ukraine can move to Poland if they want, and ethnic Ukrainians can move to Ukraine if they want- the political barriers aren't nearly as high today as they were in the past. Similarly, if the Arabs in Israel feel discriminated against, there are 4 Arab countries they can go to by simply crossing over the Israeli border. Given the fact that a good number of their ancestors actually illegally immigrated from the French Mandate of Syria, their "going home" would be poetic justice in and of itself...

No one complains about discounts for customers who use a lot of a businesses services or about banks who essentially offer discounts to the wealthy. This is just the flip side of the same world view. Why shouldn't all customers be equally valued and entitled to the same level of service and respect.?

Imagine a store giving a discount to chareidim only. The secular public would be MAD. This is just unacceptable. Everybody should be paying the same. No special discounts. Now if they would make a discount for *all* customers, in their stores in Arab towns, fine. That's different. Similarly, Egged lines for chareidim are cheaper than those for seculars. A ticket on the 426 from Jerusalem to Petach Tivkah costs - if I remember correctly - at least a few shekels less than a ticket from Jerusalem to Petach Tikvah on the 947. But that cheaper price is for anyone who gets on the bus. The driver doesn't check people at the door and give the chareidim a cheaper price than the seculars!! If a secular person goes on the 426 (you can take the 426 from Binyanei HaUma to PT's Rechov HaHistadrut, right in the city center, next to Rechov Chaim Ozer; sounds perfect for seculars also), he pays the same cheaper price that a chareidi person also pays. That Egged discount is simply because Egged sees the chareidi public as its main focus, for the simple reason that most chareidim don't have cars. So, the profit marge on the chareidi lines can be lower than that on the secular lines, because the buses are typically fuller. Also, there is a car rental company which gives a discount to the religious: this is also fine, since it is based on the fact that chareidim don't use their cars on shabbat / yom tov. If a chareidi rents a car from Friday morning until Sunday evening, he only has to pay 2 days, not 3 days - that's simply because the car is indeed standing still for 25 hours. So that isn't discrimination either. I'm sure that if a secular person would come to that car company and promise not to use his car on shabbat, they would give him the same discount.
