colin   (08.08.08)
This article being one of the very few writings of truth is another reason why we have the lage scale draft dodgeing in the IDF/Why must an officer after years of protecting the state be accused by the state for over doing his duty? These officer will advance much better in the commercial world.
2. Well said, Ron Ben-Yishai!

3. What if shalit is shot while handcuffed?
Ivan ,   Haifa   (08.08.08)
Eh?,what would u say if this happens?
4. politicians
sas ,   israel   (08.08.08)
they are a special race here - they feel above it all, they feel as if they can get away with anything and everything and the general public simply accepts it. why can ohlmert continue in power NOW when he is known to be a serial thief. the man is SICK and is still deiciding the future of this country. it would not happen any place else and it should not be allowed here. how should mr. "cheap" bar on be allowed to support a candidate for PM. maybe he is not corrupt money wise but he cetertanly is low class. why should the president of israel travel to beijing and eat shrimp n pork????? we allow our leaders to do as they please and they are above all laws, rules and regulations. IT IS US TO BLAME. very sad.
5. seeking forgivnes from victims, NOT from perpetrators

6. Could you explain why the laws in Israel
Miriam ,   Israel   (08.08.08)
is different for Arabs and for Jews. When Eden Natan-Zada Hy"d – who killed for self-defense - was lynched AND KILLED by Arab terrrorists mob AFTER the police arrested him, the Israeli CRIMINAL "HIGH" COURT decided NOT TO CHARGE the suspects with any sort of crime because they were scared of the Arabs!!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT! WHAT KIND OF JUSTICE SYSTEM DOES ISRAEL HAVE? If there is a justice system it should be THE SAME FOR EVERYONE!
7. #6 repeating does not change facts
(08.08.08)
((who killed for self-defense)) ..... it was unprovoked murdering in cold blood. Goldstein did murder innocent worshipers; not in self-defense.
8. #3, if being shot in the foot with a rubber bullet
Danny   (08.08.08)
is the worst that happens to him, I think we'll all be grateful.
9. leaders
giora ,   london uk   (08.08.08)
ron ben-yishai is completely correct. gabi ashkenazi has no personality and will not go out of his way to save these officers. he does not deserve to be chief of staff.
10. Support our commanders
I.Kemp ,   Nhariya Israel   (08.08.08)
here here ! It is not right that LC Burberg has his career ruined for an offense that while wrong does not warrant such excessive punsihment. Reprimand "Yes" . The IDF will be the loser. It will end up with officers and men paralysed to do anything for fear of dismissal. You had a tough good commander with faults but then who hasn't who serves his country. Contrast that to the Govt that we have were they plunder the country for their own filthy greed.
11. doesn't he have a record?

12. Huraah for Mr. Ben-Yshai!
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron Israel   (08.08.08)
Finally somebody has got the guts to say the truth! Those "humanists" just don't see the terrible price WE are paying because of their rightful way of thinking. Tzahal is not what it was, officers and soldiers are afraid of lawyers!! Who pretend to have the right to decide about military matters. Jail the judge, give honours to our commanders, however thinks that a stupid blister in a terrorist's toe is more important that the morale of our Tzahal is a complete as#@#@le!
13. The role of "human rights" groups & the media.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (08.08.08)
This attitude is primarily the result of the constant propaganda efforts of the various "human rights" groups who blow every incident way out of proportion & then "feed" it to an irresponsible media where it immediately becomes a headline. This phenomenon is not helped by a left-leaning court system whose members sympathize or fully support the aims of these supposed "human rights" groups. The media chooses which stories make the headlines. There are incidents all over the world, very often really horrendous incidents, that are ignored or only briefly mentioned in a temporary "news update" while the slightest incident here in Israel becomes a major international event. This is all part of a deliberate effort to demonize the State of Israel. While many members of these human rights groups are sincere idealists, they are being used and manipulated as "useful idiots" by people whose motives are far less idealistic. In other words, they are dupes. The fact that our gov't. officials & even our military do not have the moral courage to stand up to this propaganda campaign only encourages even more propaganda efforts & further distortions of reality. Most of these NGO's & human rights groups deserve close scrutiny as to their finances & possibly the imposition of high rates of taxation on foreign funding.
14. IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT THIS IS.....
AVROHOM BILGREI ,   ZION   (08.08.08)
YNET, WELL PREPARED, INCITEFULL AND ENLIGHTENING !
15. #7 We must believe that Zada Hy"d killed for self-defense
Miriam ,   Irsael   (08.08.08)
because a Jew has a chezkas kashrus (which means a presumption that they are kosher and presumed otherwise). But whatever he did and for whatever reason, HE WAS ALREADY HANDCUFFED BY POLICE when those Arab thugs KILLED HIM. Why did the "judges" not charge those who killed him? On the other hand, this Arab from Naalin who THREW STONES AT ISRAELIS was wounded by an Israeli soldier and the soldier was charged. IS ARAB BLOOD MORE RED THAN JEWISH BLOOD???? Could you explain the reason for the double standard? No, you can't explain it, because the Israeli courts don't do anything with reason if it's against Jews and are afraid of the Arabs. And that's the reason and that’s the problem with this country! The lack of power in the government is the cause to the lack of security here in Israel.
16.  riht on the money!
oded   (08.08.08)
as if the idf has extra qualified high ranking officers to fill the void... it is easy to sit in the kiryah and pass judgment on the officers in the feild ,dealing with a hostile murderous arab population. the naa;in demstrations in particular must be dealt with a heavy hand to prevent any out of control situation. praise these officers ,don't suspend them!
17. ivan, if Shalit's returned with a bruized toe we'll celebrat
AK   (08.08.08)
We know how Goldwasser and Regev were returned so your post is simply reprehensible. If all that Shalit has suffered is being shot in his toe with a rubber bullet while bound, we would be very, very happy, especially, his parents.
18. Miriam, you have a valid point.
AK   (08.08.08)
Why were the Arab not prosecuted for lynching a Jew ? Is lynching permitted in Israel in general, or only when committed by Arabs?
19. #15 killed handcuffed was the responsibility of those
(08.08.08)
the same who shot the handcuffed fold blinded Palestinian. Failure to protect what they were mandated to was much worse than venting anger and the might-be acting in real self defense. that was most probably the verdict of the secret court.
20. we need rottweillers
giora ,   london uk   (08.08.08)
the officers we need are those who would be aggresive in war.we do not find these people working as accountants or running pension funds. so we pay for aggression.we do not need to hit these officers on the head when they act according to their nature. plainly these officers have not crossed any threshold.
21. why is he here?
toothmark ,   usa   (08.08.08)
could somebody please tell me why such a good officer is chasing stone throwers in the west bank. The IDF is trying to tell us that they have learned the lessons of Lebanon, so what do they do- insteadof training, training and training they are chasing a bunch of punks throwing stones. No wonder the Idf performed so poorly in Lebanon!
22. usual hypocrisy
Joseph ,   Israel   (08.08.08)
An adult throwing stones is assault with intent to harm. The arrested Arab was a criminal and the soldiers tried to scare him by shooting a rubber bullet between his legs. Stupid and against orders yes, a big crime no. However, the "human rights organizations" which are shocked by some criminal being scared cheered and supported when Olmert sent Yassam troops to brutally beat little girls for their non-violent sit-down protest in Amona.
23. it is an arabic saying
mani ,   here   (08.09.08)
beate the robed one then the unrobed will fear you .. but the doing in palastine .... no one fear the robed or the unrobed
24. I couldn't agree more !
justice   (08.09.08)
Corrupt politicians are treated in a lenient way by journalists , while army officers and commnaders get harsh remarks and punishment for any slight failure that happened in stress and in hard situations. That's really UNFAIR on the one hand and still worse : it might serve us wrong since we depend on our army and we do not want to intimidate brave officers .
25. # 3 - What a cruel question !!!

26. Alternately: No Excuse For Excusing Corrupt Politicians!!!
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (08.10.08)
27. #19, can you rewrite that in english
Danny   (08.10.08)
or arabic or hebrew. Any is good.
28. This is survival!
Prof Bar Ilan ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (09.22.08)
We are in a war for survival. We must ignore the mistakes of good officers and realize that the Arab hordes are trying to destroy us and the Arab hordes act even worse to us than we to them.. We should not go out of our way to convict our best officers. We need them. This also demoralizes the other soildiers and army. When Hizbala returned the two corpes of our soldiers they had no investigation as to who killed defenseless prisoners. We must have the same policies. Survival comes first and politics should be discarded. Liberalism is very destructive to our people.
