'I was left outside club because of my dark skin'    Yael Levy
31. Hardly looks more dark-skinned than the average Ashkenazi
Indeed, plenty of Ashkenazim look darker than her. This episode reminds me of the line from Ali G :"Is it because I is black?"
Jake   (08.11.08)
32.  Is it legal?
How come racial profiling isn't against the law in the only democracy in the Middle East.?. Are you saying all those slogans about beautiful and democratic Israel aren't true? Have to admit..this article is another great look at Israeli society..They can raid homes and beat women for a dress code, they beat women on public transportation for just about anything...and now if you're not the right skin color let you stay outside...What else to you civilized people do... This is all an education..and I have to say, you're all not looking to good..and even your comments are pathetic!! TATA

33. Why can't Jews get along?
I don't get it. The person at the door should be dealt with appropriately. She is a typical narcissist undoubtedly. Her life should be made a living hell.

34. #22
"new look of Israel"? God help you!
mark ,   ca   (08.11.08)
35. Racism among Jews?
Another grave illness of assimilation to Secularism: racism. Jews have to be taught that we can't be racist, because we are all mixed. Ironically, the Noth African and Middle Eastern Jews (the "dark skinned" ones) are the real Jews, the less racially mixed!
Jose Vargas ,   Jerusalem   (08.11.08)
36. Moroccan woman barred from club
Their license should be suspended for one month. Perhaps that will bring them to their senses.
Ger ,   Raanana, Israel`   (08.11.08)
37. The Land of Israel is the home of all Jews.
Israel is obligated, using our traditional skill with words, to retake the battlefield of ideology and of the mind - and win. The Jewish People have always been made up of different kinds of Jews. We have to make every effort to explain to all Jews that the Land of Israel is their home. Some of them may want to become religiously observant, and some may not - but if this Land cannot be the home of all Jews, then our State will not be able to last. A united Jewish people will not fear anti-Semitism as explained at : http://xrl.us/bju8t
Robert Bernier   (08.11.08)
38. Sefardics will discriminate against Ashkenaz.
It goes the other way around as well when they are in a position of power. A European will be kept from promotion if sefardics are in charge. Israel is a racist society.
janet Blumberg ,   New York   (08.11.08)
39. Non Story - Total fabrication
There is no evidence to support this only conjecture. This is a manufactured story and issue.Maybe it was true maybe not, until there is the slightest substance to a story like this it should be left alone.
rh ,   Modiin Israel   (08.11.08)
40. For Meital
Meital, you don't deserve to be treated like that. I hope that you sue them and win! People who discriminate lack self confidence as they wouldn't have to try to put someone else down to make themselves worthy. I've told my kids to boycott any club that wouldn't let their darker friends in. Discrimination belongs to the dark ages. It's 2008 for goodness sake, half the country is mixed!
Rina   (08.11.08)
41. #10 Miriam so please explan President Katsav
Well it seems you are suffering from short term memory loss. Have you forgotten Ex President Katsav, you know the one that rapes, and lies and is a serial sex offender, i believe he was of the coffee colored skin variety? As usual you are in denial
Simon ,   TA the free city   (08.11.08)
42. I was left outside club because I'M A SPOILED BRAT!
The world owes her nothing. Just because she's alive doesn't give her the right to do whatever she wants. Her ego got bruised, BIG DEAL!
Daviidi ,   Texas   (08.11.08)
43. No. 18 & 19
If you're going to post nearly identical hysterical diatribes, while pretending to be two different people, I would suggest you not make the same spelling error. Since when is T.V. the abbreviation for Tel Aviv?
NYC Girl   (08.11.08)
44. GIVE YOUR KIDS A FATHER...NOT A STUD
Who is caring for her kids while she's whoring around seeking sexual satisfaction from strangers? Why doesn't she put a parking meter next to her bed and charge these guys? Then she'll stop whimpering about the tough breaks she's getting. At least she'll be honest with herself for a change when she hears the sound of money falling into the meter, and the kids can eat from these guys..
Tim ,   Bucktoo   (08.11.08)
45. What a disgrace!!
This country was born because of hatred and racism - you'd think we would all be so much more accepting of each other. Apparently not. It's terribly sad and I feel so sorry for this poor girl at being publically humiliated in this way. I for one love Sephardim – they are warm and passionate and most have family values that Ashkenazi Jews can only dream of. Hold your head up girl.
Talula ,   Israel   (08.11.08)
46. For all the Morons...
Just because she has two children doesn't mean she can't go out and celebrate with her friend who is about to get married. She is not in Ynet because she left her children at home alone. You THICK LOSERS! The Moronic mob mentality in this talkback is frightening.
Talula ,   Israel   (08.11.08)
47. I love Moroccan women ;) I agree with #46
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.11.08)
48. 44: How is celebrating a friend's engagement "whoring"?
(08.11.08)
49. #44 and all those other oinks
You are all guilty of the same kind of discrimination as that club. You criticize her appearance, her weight and judge her morals. Going to a club is not "whoring" for most women in the modern world. Just because you are a mother and a wife you are not in "cherem". Discrimination of all kind is wrong and that club should be penalized.
Arielush ,   Ramat ha Golan   (08.11.08)
50. So much hatred ... frightening
If she wasn't allowed to enter a club in New York, the US senate would hold a session to discuss rising anti-semitism in NYC. But most talkers here fume at her with hate and degrading statements. That is more frightening than hearing anti-semitism.
Hassa ,   Planet Earth   (08.11.08)
51. # 32 Never miss opportunity to bash Israel
Dear Edithann , I think you made some very valid points. There is a lot of ugliness in Israeli society ,nobody claims this is Utopia ,a perfect society far from it.That is why each one of us here has a duty to improve things in whichever way we can ,large or small ,even a small gesture like a smile which costs nothing but can spread a little joy. There could be umpteen reasons why this lady was not permitted entry into this club .It is too easy ,convenient and lazy to play the Racism card. Why is it if a Policeman arrests a Black person for example the policeman is automatically branded a criminal. These clubs are snobby ,most probably she wasnt good -looking enough or rich enough or well dressed enough.I criticise this country more than you Edithann ,you are an Amateur a Wannabee ,BUT ,I can leave my home without locking the door and nothing ever happens and in Israel if someone is lying in the street ,people will take the shirts off their backs to help .Other nations have can learn from us.Please take your obvious jew hatred elsewhere cos I am Refusing you entry from our particular club .TATA
Larry ,   zefat israel   (08.11.08)
52. # 32 I think it is legal
Hello again Edithann,I am not an expert my Dear but it is probably legal to bar entry to a private club .If I were to go to this club ,quite honestly I would not be suprised if they refused me entry ...you see i'm not rich or famous ,i'm not especially good-looking ,I am not tall and i',m middle-aged and balding .I like to think I would accept it like an adult ,take it on the chin.I would not run to the nearest Lawyer or to the Unired Nations comittee for 'yUMAN RIGHTS' nor play the Racism card without solid proof. The club owners may be Jerks but hey ,it is their club paid for with their money and they have every right .As for the ugliness in israeli society ,those of us who live here know all about that but I try to be positive and change things ,albeit in a very small way by trying to be a better more tolerant and kinder human being to all ,yes including you.Wishing a good day to you and all readers.
Larry ,   zefat israel   (08.11.08)
53. Not nice to refuse this poor woman
This lady was harmless and the club would have not been poorer had she been allowed entry .As long as she behaved and did not start fighting or being a threat ,what's the problem ?.Not nice how she was treated.
Larry ,   zefat israel   (08.11.08)
54. That's what I thought #2. besides that's what the typical
Israeli would have done make a big fuss. I don't believe this story so much......
(08.11.08)
55. PROBLEM IS SHE'S NOT SEPHARDIC, SHE"S A MISRAHIT!!
SHE DOESN'T SPEAK LADINO, NOR DID HER PARENTS. THEY ARE MIZRAHIM, AND THEREFORE ARE NOT SEPHARDIC. GET IT STRAIGHT. MY FAMILY ALL SPEAK LADINO AND ARE NOT SO INSECURE ABOUT OUR ANCESTRY AS TO RELY ON USING IT OR THE 'RACE CARD' , PAST SUFFRAGE OR SECULAR LAWS FOR JUSTICE.... AS JEWS ,WE SHOULD RELY ON HASHEM ONLY FOR WHAT IS ULTIMATELY TRUE AND RIGHT. THERE IS A DEEPER SPIRITUAL REASON AT WORK HERE. SHE NEEDS TO OPEN HER EYES AND SEE WHAT THE REALITY IS BEHIND THIS "MESSAGE" FROM GOD
LEVY ,   ISRAEL   (08.11.08)
56. I was left outside club because of my VICTIM mentality......
I play the victim because I get attention and love instead of working on my character, mind and body. If I did that , good people would really love me and pay attention to me because I'm a good person . I wouldn't rely on pity and sorrow, instead I would be a healthy and normal person with healthy friends, not blaming others for my unhappiness and unfortunate experiences.
Ixnay Aconbay ,   SF   (08.11.08)
57. So called racism
To "Takan, Eilat", yes, you have to blame the club, it's so called racism. Nobody chose the colour of his skin, it's a shame btw, this woman had the right to have fun and makes her friend happy, but what she got was simply incredible, a whole night with misunderstanding and tears. Pffiu...
Farah ,   paris,france   (08.11.08)
58. racism, plain and simple
As a dark-skinned Ashkenazi I wonder if they'd stop me...
russel ,   tlv   (08.11.08)
59. Oren's sister
I am a Moroccon too! and my parents live in Petach - Tikva and I am dark skinned...that's funy, they let me in
